I'm wondering about this as well. Xenoblade Chronicles X suffered from development and budget problems, and aside from the character designs, I don't see how Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is going to suffer the same issues XCX had.
There didn't seem to be any budgetary issues with Xeno X. Just that it was set at a certain Mid Tier budgetary level and the goal of Monolith Soft is to make huge games at the level which they've been doing at a solid level so far.
Development wise, they had more on their plate to get done (transitioning to HD, understanding open-world level design and implementing progression, advancing the different systems of XBC, the limb based damage systems on all enemies and Skells and so on), but I think they made the transition quite admirably.
Why are people so sceptical regarding XC2? Did they show something before that was that worrying? I get that many don't like the visual style and character design (not a fan either) but other than that I don't see where the concern lies.
It's graphically not very polished yet. Otherwise, it's the same level of skepticism that the original game received if I'm recalling right.
I don't get the complains about XB2 honestly.
The only criticism I will make are:
1. Monsters seem much closer than before, in XB1 the map was so big, that you could imagine Monsters actually living there, forming communities, in XB2, monsters where so close together that it didn't give me that sense; although it might be the improved draw distance.
I kinda like that space is somewhat tighter between monsters but I did get the sense that there were some communities there like with the watering hole with different animal types gathering, the pack of Feris with a seeming alpha, the lone unique monsters on the field, the families of Armus.
Noctilum was my favorite area from XCX because it was so tight to navigate. I hope some of that level construction appears in XC2 because for me that was the main reason I enjoyed Xenoblade more than FF12.
