I actually think downloadable games could be HUGE for this. Lots of developers already use small teams to produce DS games at a far lower cost than a normal console game, so imagine an even smaller amount of resources required for something you can just put up as DLC.

At least I have hope for that. Wii Ware's not impressed me much so far.

This is coming from someone who has bought a Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Advance SP, Game Boy Micro, Nintendo DS, and a Nintendo DS Lite. In case you missed it, I bought a Game Boy Light which never made it out here in the US. In fact I think I have two of them. The price hike for the new features isn't worth it. I've got all those features in a better form on my iPhone so I don't see a reason to get them on a DS lite. All they had to do was do dual touch screen and I would have been there on day 1. Sorry Nintendo, for once I won't be upgrading.

I disagree, I think the DSi is the most significant update to a Nintendo handheld since the backlight for the SP.

I'm vaguely interested to see how they'll integrate the camera into games. Theoretically you could make some pretty cool augmented reality games using it, assuming it can work in realtime. Also, I like the online capabilities - the DS store, SD card etc. But yeah, it's not ultra-orgasmic. It would have been nice to have a decent spec increase as well, esp. now the GBA slot is gone.

None of that required a new model. SD could be added through the same kind of cart-slot that Pirates are using, and DS store is you know, 100% software.
The fact that they are gimping SD usage makes it completely worthless addition anyway(until it inevitably gets hacked that is).

Yeah, but the problem I've had with both in that regard is the extra features they tack onto their systems are stuff I don't care about, and then it takes them forever to get to the stuff that matters (downloadable games for both DS and PSP now).

Hopefully next gen they both hit the ground running instead of acting confused as to what kind of tacky shit they should pile into the specs to make for extra bullet points.

GBA slot loss seems stupid. Looking at the positive, at least the power control is no longer on the outside. Takes away the possibility of accidentally turning off a sleeping system.

Each DS screen could be described as 0.05 megapixel, so it's fine for the platform at hand.

I never bothered buying every single handheld Nintendo made...lucky for me I guess.

I only had the original Game Boy, skipped everything between and then jumped to the small Game Boy Color (the smaller slimmer one that they released as the final model)

Bought the original GBA, Afterburnered it (remember that? haha), then I threw it away. Skipped the SP. GB micro gets GOD status.

Got the DS phat which got sold and got the DS Lite.
End of story.

Now that it's been confirmed that it's still only 1 touch screen I'm not interested since my DSL is just fine as it is. Maybe between now and launch they'll show a game that takes advantage of something I can do with DSL to make me interested, but right now I'm not.

What about the rumble pack? (I have both) It was bad enough when carts would only fit halfway into the lite, but better than not at all.

The only thing that could possibly make this worth purchasing is if you can transfer virtual console games onto it. (portable Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Super Castlevania IV etc. = bought)

I've been on the receiving end of such rants from many people. GBA slot is useless, but an expansion slot is still needed. I've been waiting for the GB / GBA VC, even though it feels a tad rapey.
