Nintendo reveals Wii MotionPlus -- 1:1 motion control add-on

It's VERY cool if they're adding true 1:1 control. I can see Nintendo maybe giving the adapter with a game like Star Fox 64 with the rumble pack. However, I don't see the adapter becoming necessary for many games, unfortunately.

Just thought of something and don't really feel like reading the whole thread to see if it was brought up before or not, but won't this attachment make it uncomfortable to hold the Wii remote on its side? Will you have to unplug it to play games like Wario Land, Smash Bros. NES VC titles, etc.?

OMFG!!!! :O
YES!!!!!!!!! =D

oh, and I'd like to add that with this add-on a first person Zelda is practically a confirmation

BERIEVE, called it etc etc. Mark this post
All this talk about a FP Zelda...how about a 1:1 THIRD person Zelda?? I like to see Link on the screen when I play a Zelda game, personally... :)

Funny to see Nintendo win e3 before it even began. I almost feel bad for the competition.

How is this winning E3? A non-standard controller add-on that'll probably be used with two or three games, only to be forgotten afterwards?

It's a wonder you people don't think the EyeToy is the greatest thing ever.

I'm honestly shocked that Wii owners think this is a good thing. It makes it a lot less likely I'll buy the Wii again (I sold mine last Christmas) if in addition to the wii I need to spend $30 on this addon, then another $90 for another controller, which is essential to have fun with most Wii games as it's a social experience...at least for me. That's $370 to get started on the Wii, which is $30 shy of a PS3, and $70 more than a 360.

I camped out on a 20 degree Wisconsin night at Target on Wii launch at the age of 29, with my wife, who thought it was the dorkiest thing in the world and was totally embarrassed by it. This addon is what I was expecting from Wii from the very start, which is probably why the Wii didn't end up doing it for me. I actually feel ripped off that now, all of sudden, they're going to put in the functionality we all expected from the start.

Steal the show? I hardly think so, I'm pretty upset by the announcement actually.

I need to see the software that will utilize this before judgement, but I've always thought 1:1 was possible with the wiimote by itself. Weird news.

well Miyamoto said TP would be the last Zelda as we know it, which implies a pretty big change for the next game. My opinion is that they're really going to revolutionize the serie, and it being FP sounds like that

How do we know future wiimotes won't have this built in? They could just be releasing the add-on to modify current ones. Of course, if it's really $30 I'd rather just buy the hypothetical new wiimote :lol

Also, I see a number of people criticizing this who I know were excited over the Dual Shock 3. Hello, hypocrites! :D

Has the potential to be huge, but I won't be convinced until they show an awesome tech demo with this.

Show that it's actually applicable and enhances the experience, and I'm game. I trust they will do so tomorrow, though.

Damn, talk about catching everyone off guard. Well played, Nintendo. Well played.

But....but I'm not a big fan of the FP perspective in games.... :(

Even assuming a Retro Studios designed FPA Zelda does NOT happen -- I still think, as I said before, MotionPlus is a key indicator of where/what direction the gameplay of the upcoming EAD designed Zelda is going.

They can easily make something "play as good", while also having the benefits of a significant hardware edge "power and capability" wise. It's not that hard to see that while "play as good" can be done based on dev's refinement, but there's no way to make up the massive hardware difference the Wii has compared to the other two machines.

We all know this stuff is coming from the other two. Question is though, can they do it better? Both are very capable of it, while based on Sony's prior products they have the better odds of it while also having better software to support it. MS if focused can do the same though.

It "can" map out positioning of your wrist more accurately which would benefit things like perhaps sports games more than others.
what happened to you? You seem more level headed and less fanboyish than last year.

You unplug the nunchuk, right?

The whole DS3 thing really pissed me off too, but the difference here is that we thought the WiiMote could do 1:1 already, at least they claimed it was possible, and now they're releasing this to do something many of us thought was already possible. Also, I can sell my Sixaxis controllers, and buy DS3's, or just buy a MGS4 PS3 to get around the DS3. Rumble will also never be required for a game to work properly either.

More accessories?

I don't think this is really a big deal. It comes down to what they are going to show it working with. Might be something awesome... might be something lame.

Yeah, cause Wiimote isn't used by many games. This is not EyeToy. It's an augmented Wiimote. This is the new Wiimote. This is not the balance board. This is the one future on the Wii.

I'm confident that Nintendo could get the public to buy this thing. They need the games to back it up but I'm sure they will.

Never mind Nintendo fans are going insane over an added capability they thought the Wii already had.

What next, Sony announces a Blu Ray player in their PS3?

I'm not even FUCKING with you guys here- Last night I had a dream about the new Wii controller. Right after the presentation I watched a new sporting event where football players bash each other's skulls in with 45lb barbells.

You do realise that the $30 price was just made-up and plucked out of thin air?

For all we know this will be bundled with every single new Wiimote, it could be included as standard with every new console sold, it could be given away free with any one of half a dozen new wii games. Nintendo will get this out there..and get it out there cheap IMO.

I find it hard to get excited before we've seen this thing in action and know exactly what difference it makes. Looking forward to the conference though.

true.

I'm not saying I'm blown away by this improvement. But I think Nintendo will NOT have any problems getting this into people's hands, cheaply. I doubt it'll cost more than $19.99.

I'm sure it'll be packed in with Zelda in 2009 or 2010 (it'll cost less to make than it will this fall).

A Zelda and Wii Sports title definitely make the most sense in this case. I guess this is the big new perihperal we were all expecting.

This. If they announce some fucking amazing game that makes it worth it, wonderful. If not, who cares? It's amazing that some people are ecstatic over nothing but potential (not even tech behind it!), and others are getting upset. Stop being reactionary idiots.

oh, me neither. But if there's a company I blindly trust is Nintendo. It wont be another DQS, for sure
I suspect WiiSports 2, and MotionPlus comes with the game much like WiiPlay with a Wiimote. This will ensure the highest penetration in the market with this new tech.

Who thought that? There are no 1:1 games on Wii. Nintendo never promised true 1:1 before now.

When I think 1:1 I think I point here on the screen and the pointer goes there like a laser pointer. I don't see anything in this PR to make me think that's what this does. The term 1:1 is used more like an advert buzzword in this context. I need to see this in demos with different size screens to see if it actually matches what I think 1:1 actually is.

From the wording of the PR I wouldnt be surprised if this thing just has higher precision accelerometers and/or gyros (possibly sampled at higher rates) that replace those built into the stand-alone Wiimote when its plugged in.

What??!! :O This is great news, despite my thinking this is what the Wii-mote should have been in the first place. I'm excited to see what Nintendo have to complement it. It *has* to come packed with something. Zelda pls...

Looks like this premptive strike was for naught. No motion for Microsoft. Then again, after what happened at the end of their confrence i dont think anyone cares anymore.

You are right, its is a COMPLETE DISASTER, the people at Nintendo are idiots and just need to quit while they are ahead.
