Nintendo Sets Release Dates for Q1 for 3DS/Wii U

Rayman Legends earlier than I thought. Goddamn, Feb and March will be expensive months.

...and same day as EO4 ;_;

Wii U's lineup is shit and deserves the bad sales. No notable releases until Legends at the end of February? What was Nintendo expecting, to coast along without releases?

W101 is not coming out in Q2, take my word on it.

Well judging from the PR I'd say it's a safe bet, but who knows.

Game & Wario™, The Wonderful 101™, Pikmin™ 3 and Wii Fit™ U will arrive in the first half of the year. Additional information about launch timing for these games will be announced at a later date.

Pikmin and W101 will probably be delayed to be the big Holiday games for 2013 at this rate :|

Nah, I think Nintendo has bigger things in store for Holiday 2013.

Welp, guess my Wii U won't get any love until 2/26 when Rayman releases. Though I'll be on it nonstop once MoHun Ultimate comes out, that's my most anticipated game right now and I'll easily sink 200+ hours into that.

3DS line up looks awesome. Fire Emblem is right around the corner (I bought a 3DS for this game)! MoHun for single player and farming offline, Luigi's Mansion coming right after that, and Soul Hackers rounding it out in mid-April? Yes, please!

looks like I am still not sure when my next Wii U game purchase will be? Glad I havent finished Mario yet and ive barely touched Nintendoland

I really think delaying Pikmin is just a waste of resources. The game will never be popular, it'll never compare to Nintendo's other franchises. Wasting more resources and time on it than what they had originaly planned is just a... waste. It'll hit its fanbase, like it'd always have done, and that's it.

At this stage can we conclude that Nintendo are facing development issues, perhaps due to the transition to HD development?

Or are we still going with "something something announcement policy."

I'd blame it at least partially on their silly announcement policy (which was created in the first place exactly due to delays like the ones we see now, so, that's nothing new either).

I mean, it's obvious that they can't pull games out of a hat and fill this weak line up they have right now, but there's nothing stopping them from talking about the future of the console and games they have in development for it even if they won't come out in the near future. Without going into total speculation, just look at Smash Bros, which at least is known to exist and to be in development for a few months now.

Smash Brawl's announcement was done a few months into its development, and mostly showed Brawl models of 4 melee characters fighting in the old melee engine, with only one Final Smash and new stage actually implemented into the game. Everything else was just CG. And, yet, they could still showcase the idea of Final Smashes and some of the newcomers they had planned, hyping people for the game. I don't see why doing things like that with their current projects that are in development, but not near release, would be impossible for them. Even if the game isn't ready to be shown, just go with CG to show the concept that's supposed to make the game stand out.

3DS looks pretty good. I see a few likely titles to pick up already:
  • Fire Emblem Awakening
  • Etrian Odyssey™IV: Legends of the Titan
  • Capcom Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  • Luigi’s Mansion™: Dark Moon
  • Shin Megami Tensei®: Devil Summoner®: Soul Hackers
But the Wii U lineup could use some work; I don't see much there outside of Rayman.

I'm glad 3DS is finally coming into its own. It's getting great games each and every month now.

March is going to absolutely kill my wallet :(. I was hoping they could have spaced those games out a bit more...at the very least Rayman will be out a little while beforehand.

Nintendo was experimenting with HD during Wii so I don't think HD is something surprising for them especially that they designed the HW.
They essentially abandoned Wii development prior to/during 2011, the last year with major internally-published releases (not many of them at that, so essentially 2010). They are among the largest of publishers/studios, if I recall correctly.

They're outsourcing one of their major properties (Super Smash Bros).
They're publishing other third party titles to pad the launch window.

Ergo all they'll manage to churn out from their own studios between then and June 30th are:
  • New Super Mario Bros U
  • Nintendo Land
  • Game & Wario
  • Pikmin 3
  • Wii Fit U
None of which appear to be technically complex titles as far as I'm aware. Some of which, if I recall correctly, are essentially up-ports from the Wii. And even then they're seeing delays.

That speaks to me of issues with internal development.
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is coming that soon for any platform?

The only media I've seen make it look like it's still in pre-pre-pre-alpha.

I don't think they'd advertise much older versions than the current.

Is there hope for that game?
It's presumably intended to sell on the license rather than the quality, since it lacks the latter.

Wii U:

Monster Hunter 3 ULtimate
Lego City Undercover
Rayman Legends

3DS:

Etrian Odyssey IV
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Maybe
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate - Big Maybe
Fire Emblem Awakening
Luigi’s Mansion™: Dark Moon
Shin’en Nano Assault EX

Possible and certain buys. Something from the list has to go if I do end up picking up Rayman Legends and Monster Hunter 3DS is already a big if. Quite possible Castlevania ends up being cut even if I don't get Rayman in the end. I just wish it was a launch day game instead. I wanted to play Rayman far more then NSMBU and would have gotten Rayman instead of Mario on launch day.

Need for Speed will only be bought once the price is is really cut. No way in hell I'm spending full price for that late game. I fully expect Aliens price to have dropped considerably on the other systems by the time the Wii U version comes out as well.

Luigi's Mansion is their big March game? Okay, good luck with that NoA.

That's an improvement from last year (Kid Ikarus: Uprising). I think it will sell well.

Q1 looks very strong for 3DS and later it will come Animal Crossing and the main Pokémon title, 2013 year of 3DS confirmed.

I'm liking that 3ds line up but just releasing a list of games and dates is boring these days. Where's a new Nintendo Direct for this stuff?

Having either one of Monster Hunter or Lego City Undercover to play NOW (or soon) while you wait for March for the other would have been nicer than both on pretty much the same March day.

The main thing is that last year Kid Icarus: Uprising was alone.
This time, March has Luigi, Pokèmon, and also titles like Castlevania and MH. It's much better.

Anyone on here who anonymously posts but is an NoA employee who's 'in the know'?

I'll bet there are at least a few of you...

Tell us what's up with all the delays of the first-party games outside the launch window. Just a matter of spacing things out, or development delays that were unpredicted?

No (or at least most) NOA employee(s) would post anonymously. First, because of fear of getting the axe from a "posh" job (it's more laid back than many other corporate environments). Second and probably the biggest factor, the majority just don't care about the stuff enough outside of their job to actually go seeking it out on a forum. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part it's their job so it's not exciting as it is for others.

Bit too early to call that after its abysmal holiday line-up.

Part of the reason why the holiday lineup was bad might be due to Nintendo focusing on the Wii U launch, but Holiday 2013 will be drastically better. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't make me a liar.

man, i'm glad we're getting over 50 games until march and that all that other stuff is under NDA.

Let's not forget that over 50 is pretty much 100, so in effect almost 100 games are slated for release on the Wii U in Q1, it's just that everything is still under NDA!

At least the 3DS line-up seems okay. I wouldn't call it fantastic, but serviceable.

3DS listing demos to buff up their release list. That's pretty hilarious. Few new dates in here, but not ones that matter. Is Fire Emblem expected to be a big deal?

Smash is never developed internally though. I mean, this release schedule is complete garbage, I'm not trying to defend Nintendo. But I think it's too early to be calling troubled development when this first year lineup doesn't look much worse than either Gamecube or Wii

To ensure that Wii U users get the most out of their GamePad controller, Nintendo will be offering a Wii U GamePad Accessory Set to help owners protect their screens. The set will be available at stores on Feb. 4 for a suggested retail price of $12.99 and includes a Wii U GamePad screen protector that fits over the screen to protect it from scratches and dirt, an extra-large stylus for comfortable touch-screen game play and a cleaning cloth.

what do we need to protect the gamepad from? not like there are any games out to get it scratched.

Holy shit @ Pikmin 3 and TW101 being pushed back into Q2. The Wii U has a terrible line-up. God damn. I'll have to twiddle my thumbs until Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate comes out I guess.

What the fuck is wrong with Nintendo's studios? They've been doing shit all since 2011. There should be loads of games ready for release by now. Something must be wrong if we're only getting 1 Nintendo game (that's not even developed by an internal studio) for the Wii U in Q1.

Thank god Fire Emblem comes out in the beginning of Feb.

This set has been available from launch in Europe, didn't know it wasn't already available in the US (but it's pretty unnecessary either way):

It's sad to see that you can't seem to have fun with the games already out.

I beat NSMBU within the launch week, worn out ZombiU by now, and Nintendoland I don't find as fun without friends, so it sits on the shelf too.

I'll get Rayman Legends, but after reading up a little on Monster Hunter, I may just get that on 3DS. Lego City Stories sort of interests me, but I'll have to see more of the game.

That Wii U lineup is bad. If you already own a Wii U then I guess Monster Hunter, Rayman and Lego City are serviceable, but there's a startling lack of system sellers between now and March.

By the time that list is done we will be 3 months in to 2013 and 3 months closer to next generation reveals and marketing. Where's the incentive in that list to buy a Wii U?

What a mess.

There is still the possibility of stuff like Bravely Default, Fantasy Life, Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney, and perhaps Project X Zone as well later in the year. This is why the 3DS is my primary game system at the moment and will continue to be for the rest of the year.

eShop lineup is brutally small.
At least Nintendo is able to cushion things somewhat by having a robust release schedule of noteworthy Virtual Console titles on 3DS and WiiU-

Oh wait, they didn't announce anything for the VC on 3DS?
They don't have a VC on WiiU?

My bad.

I guess I'll just have to call my buds over for some more Nintendoland fun until then.. at least I have that.

I think they're going to have to announce some rather large future titles pre-E3 or the sales are going to be horrendous.

Hmm. Looks like I might have to budget my time between Vita and 3DS come March so I can play all those games. Luigi's Mansion and Monster Hunter are go!

I see Nintendo is enforcing the gag orders, they won't announce games in advance in order to control the hype for the system.

Sarcasm

So basically Wii U is just a Monster Hunter machine for the first half of the year. Good job Nintendo.

Yeah, it's dreadful. I never believed their ,,everythings launch window'' BS from the very beginning, but I didn't think it would end up THIS bad. I guess Rayman is a nice bonus until MH.
Though it's not going to get any better until september at earliest, since possible announcements from E3 won't just come out the next day...
