The thing is, Nintendo hardware team lives in a bubble. Its not like you have only powerful or weak hardware. There's something in the middle but it is totally unknown to Nintendo.
Yes, it's called PS4/XB1.

it's those damn puppets, they can make anyone smile
I love Nintendo and think highly of most of its management, but these approval ratings are ridiculous.
Where is all the hate for Takeda coming from? Is it just because of the Wii U's CPU?

Yes. The people demand The Specs, if they don't get The Specs, the throw a stink eye at Takeda.
Completely ignoring the fact that they design systems with certain goals in mind and don't just randomly go "how can we make this as crappy as possible."
Wii U's CPU was fine if it had more cores. No, its something worse than that: His entire philosophy. Taking a "Toyota" approach to design their hardware, aka small and power efficient things.
Sometimes it just feels like anybody on gaf would make a better job than him. Wii U didnt needed to be so weak. There's like a huge range between PS4 2tflops and Wii U's 176gflops.

There's even sth between PS4/XB1 and Wii U. 2 to 6 times more power and you'd still be below even Xbox One.
I think mostly the local wireless signal between the console and gamepad is why the gamepad is expensive. Would probably be cheaper to just stick the system hardware on the gamepad.Well sure, but how else would it ship with an expensive ass Gamepad and still be $300?
So with some tweaking, you could probably make a portable Wii U.

I mean DIY projects for portable Gamecubes exist:

Yeah, probably.I wonder if they could have made a wired version that was significantly cheaper.. The gamepad isn't really used like a wiimote, where it relies on full freedom of movement.
edit: that would of course place even greater limits on how far one could take it from the TV.

Yeah, thought so. Miracast was after Wii U, so I knew it was unique at the time. You are correct. Broadcom developed the hardware for Wii U and there was nothing of its kind on the market at the time. However, now that Miracast Wi-Fi hardware (which is similar to the Wii U's low-latency Wi-Fi streaming solution) is more pervasive, the cost of it has declined at a significant rate.

The Wii U mostly has the problem that it really cannot be upgraded, so there won't be a Wii U Mini this time around. NX will most likely be able to play Wii U games, so it will probably have a way to replicate two screens. Because of this, I could see it also playing 3DS games. I am more excited about it than the games coming out honestly (except M&L: Paper Jam, that game is going to rock).
Maybe they'll fire him next year, guys. Don't lose hope lolololol
Ugh.Scott Moffitt. I will say it until my lips fall off. That man needs to be shown the door, can't market his way out of a paper bag.
This is a rare and senseful thing to admit.yeah.. I'm not qualified to judge if it was a good decision or not, but thinking it was made "just because" seems really ignorant.
Kinda sobering to think about it, but it's hard to make judgements about Nintendo's future core video game plans when we know nothing about the NX and the Wii U looks like it's gonna plunge off a cliff next year in terms of software.Investors being happy isn't necessarily great news for the gamers. Most of the reasons for the high approval rating are for all non-core experience related cash-ins (theme parks, amiibos, QOL, mobile gaming)...
Yay?
It's like shareholders have very short memories.
Ugh.

They just have to actually deliver.
Top American CEOs manage 98-99% approval on regular.
The one commercial Puzzles and Dragons got was terrible. Not to mention that the ads we do see are mostly terrible (even the Splatoon ads are what I would consider "so bad they're good") and he's the one signing off on that stuff. It's not a matter of opinion on the subject. He has one job and he's doing it badly.

I don't think it is due to the ads, it is most likely word of mouth. GTAIII also I think didn't have many ads, but it blew up the same. But I thought Splatoon was performing well.
That's how all their platforms look in the year before because they hardly ever announce shit far in advance. This has been the case for yeaaaaars. One would think people know this by now.
Did they reveal how much revenue they generated from DLC (MK8/SSB for example)? I'm curious how much they're squeezing out per player. Might intuition would be that the number is pretty significant.Of course.
Since the last meeting they've:
1.) Announced they're going mobile.
2.) Added in significant licensing and merchandizing businesses including Amiibo.
3.) Signaled they're moving on to their next platform in the not too distant future, and that it will reimagine what their business is like since the current model isn't working.
4.) Noted they're heavily reworking their digital policy and platform to be more friendly for users, multi-device use, data telemetry, and things like free 2 play.
5.) Had a variety of console games that sold well despite the Wii U's situation, reaffirming their brands still have good value, especially if coupled with a better platform in the future.
They pretty much gave investors everything they wanted on paper. They just have to actually deliver.
Yeah, but this year felt especially slow. Did we get any new announcements for Wii U other than Animal Crossing?

They haven't been in debt in a long time dude.Sure they've clawed their way out of deficit at least for now using add on figurines and by not dropping the price of floundering aging hardware, but are you really trying to say their ecosystem looks healthy or even potentially healthy?
You can't have success without popularity and we've seen nothing to indicate they are on the right track there. Not saying these guys can't turn it around, but if they do then give them the high marks not before. And we don't have a clear plan, at least not yet.
- Mobile development
- Amiibos = Huge success
- Profit
Not surprising. I also wonder if the shareholders were fed some new, undisclosed info about the NX platform that perked them up... ?
Nah, why would they bother? That only risks leaks and would be a waste^^ The shareholders wouldn't know what to do with that info anyway. Remember, this is the meeting where shareholders come and ask about free swag and complain about the poor transportation from the bus station to the meeting.
Not sure about leaks. I'd imagine shareholders are held to very strict non-disclosure agreements and such. However, I can see how it could happen. Just takes one asshole to anonymously slip some info to others without revealing his/her identity.
But, yes, I do see these meetings being huge bitchfests like you said, lol.
If the approval rating is low, they don't get voted back into their position and thus would need to be replaced.
Competitors can own shares/stocks of competing companies and become privy to what is disclosed at shareholders meetings. It is not in the company's interests to disclose what they don't have to. That's why especially in game developer shareholder meetings companies try to get away with being as vague about their future plans as possibleNot sure about leaks.
