Nintendo: This might be Chibi-Robo's last chance

Zip Lash is practically the only game I'm considering of getting for the rest of the year. I like the platformer genre, and it looks pretty good. My first Chibi Robo game. I bet it will sell well because of that amiibo pack.

I wasn't thinking of getting Zip-Lash, but if it's the last one, I might have to just to show support (Assuming it's not bad). I mean, I like platformers, and I like Chibi-Robo! (The eShop one was kind of lame, though), but I just want another game that's roughly the same genre as the GameCube one.

Then again, I may have difficulty finding Zip-Lash thanks to the Amiibo Bundle. So at least the series has that going for it!

There seems to be a good supply for the bundle at least. It's still up for preorder everywhere. Likewise for the YWW bundle too. I don't think you'd have a whole lot of trouble finding it.

Let me SHUT him up real quick, no disrespect. Erik you better read this.

Almost 10 years ago we were all BEGGING for Welcome Back Chibi Robo (DS), but Nintendo decided to let it ROT in the depths of Japan. That was some years after the Wal-Mart exclusive Park Patrol, lmfao.

Fast forward to the 3DS and we get a random shitty photo something game (which I bought just to support the series) and some trashy 2D platformer.

Did anyone here ask for any of this? We want a new proper Chibi Robo adventure, not a bunch of stupid spin-offs.

Nintendo killed Chibi Robo, not us.

REST IN PEACE CHIBI ROBO <3

Maybe I should replay the original on Dolphin. I'm attending Japanese classes too, so in a few years I'll be able to experience Welcome Back Chibi Robo in all its glory!

If the character can gain more recognition, I believe we’ll have a chance to produce another adventure-style game for a large number of people. I’m hoping that we made the right choice for this game’s play style.

Sorry I already canceled my copy. I didn't play the old games and this one is different anyways. I didn't wanna spend $50 just for the amiibo.

I feel like this game is gonna be to it's predecessors what Chrono Cross was to Trigger. Vastly different, so newcomers will like it, but it'll alienate some long-time fans.

The trailer was also weirdly giving me Castlevania vibes. I thought I was on crack, but weirdly enough the top comment on Youtube also stated that.
Which one could argue only reinforces me being on crack cause, lol, youtube comments.

Eh I'm exited for it :) it looks like it has a lot of charm. Most of the belly ache I've seen is long time fans not wanting something different. The fact it comes with an Amiibo can only help. Hopefully it does well enough.

I never really liked any of the chibi robo games and I always wondered why they continued to make them and passed on franchises that actually had significant demand like metroid and fzero.

Nintendo uttered the same threat with Star Fox when 3D came out. That game didn't exactly sell gangbusters, and yet we've got Starfox U around the corner. If anything, Nintendo is likely to retire Chibi due to its similarity with the less niche franchise, Pikmin. Nintendo likes to remain diverse with their IPs, giving them a face to put on any game mechanic they come up with. Chibi Robo seemed the perfect fit to help the promote the 3DS's failed AR functionality, and perhaps they saw it as weak when it didn't perform. Meanwhile, Pikmin Shorts did astoundingly well for tiny videos you could just find on YouTube. Reverse the IPs. The Chibi Robo shorts would have tanked, and AR Pikmin would be adorable and probably a success.

Who knows though. I honestly can't follow Nintendo's logic anymore.

That's a shame.

Chibi-Robo is cute, and I don't think a series should be shelved just because it's having trouble finding its groove.

I really loved the Gamecube game, but that photo one on the DS was just such a departure, how in the hell could I enjoy that game? I really hope this one has some redeeming qualities, Chibi-Robo is cool.

Photo Finder's failure has nothing to do with the IP, it's the fact that it's an awful game. The AR aspect is horribly implemented and barely works half the time, and the rest of the game is filled with luck-based minigames and quizzes, tiny areas to "explore", and character subplots that get introduced but go nowhere. Meanwhile, the Pikmin shorts were simply funny and well animated. I don't see how this comparison works at all.

So...we're never gonna get the real sequel we want to the Gamecube Adventure?

I mean, that game was and still is fun as hell, but every sequel since has just not been what I've wanted at all. I don't want another 2D platformer, least of all from Nintendo because they do it so well and the market is simply oversaturated with them, I want a puzzle-solving exploration game with a dysfunctional family to act as their counsellor with great quirky humour. Is that so much to ask?

RIP in peace, Chibi Robo, say hi to Ray Mk II for me, wherever you go.

I see your point. I don't think Nintendo looks at it that way, though. They have tunnel vision when it comes to mishandling their IPs. Look at other M... That was a terrible game, but for some reason they saw its failure as a reason to drop the franchise. Nintendo did the same thing with Chibi Robo. Put out crap and blamed the IP. I still stand by my statement that Pikmin and Chibi are too similar in Nintendo's eyes. Brand awareness is essential in selling a product. Chibi Robo won't sell games like Pikmin. If Nintendo had a choice in the future to use Pikmin or Chibi-Robo for a small-scaled game, who do you think they'll use? It's kind of like a catch 22. Chibi was delegated to terrible games that they'd probably never degrade the likes of Pikmin with.

Could Noise be working on something? Their last game came out in June 2013 for the 3DS. Not saying it would be Custom Robo, but...

Actually they made one 3DS game after; on March 13th 2014 they released a Kumamon puzzle game for Rocket Company.

The irony; Rocket Company owns the Medabots series.

GUYS, get Noise on Medabots, it writes itself! :/

I still don't understand what you're talking about. They don't share any similarities at all beyond the theme of "small character/s in a big world". They have totally different gameplay, music, graphics, stories, etc. and are made by totally different developers. Pikmin is irrelevant to Chibi-Robo's future.

Preordered the bundle when it went up on Best Buy. It sucks this wasn't included in that preorder 2 Nintendo games get 7 Mario Maker Buttons offer while every other Nintendo 3DS game was.

I still hold out hope someone will eventually translate the second DS game that was an actual sequel to the first. Probably my most wanted fan translation that isn't in progress.

This is really unfortunate. I thoroughly enjoyed the GameCube version, having bought it on a whim back when it released. I'm guessing it didn't do so hot either which is why they've continued to release lesser and smaller entries in the franchise.

I played some of this new one at the GameStop expo earlier this month. It's a solid platformer with some pretty cool and unique attributes, but it was fairly boring. Hardly enjoyed what I experienced.

At least it'll do well in the US based on the amiibo alone.

Enough to create a sequel? Maybe. Given the sales of amiibos vs the reactions to them on GAF I'm willing to say it'll do alright.

I mean, let's be realistic. It's already pretty much literally a miracle that Chibi-Robo even got one follow-up, let alone four.

I mean, I get why people are not so fonded on this new episode as a "testing room" for the survival chances of the franchise, but your post is SO true.

I think we should express our hopes and opinions, but also judge the facts: Chibi robo is a very niche and small series, that probably would have been already discarded by many other software houses.

I tried the game and it's not the ambitious game some of us would have desired, but it seemed a good platformer, with some nice touch based on the Chibi robo characteristics and features.

One of my dream games would be a Chibi robo x Pikmin crossover, and it will probably never happen unfortunately, if Tanabe sentence is to be believed.

That's unfortunate, but it's pretty demanding to pretend that they invest a AAA budget in such a small franchise (especially considering how they barely put AAA budgets out at all).

I'm going to buy the amiibo for sure, I'm still on the fence for the software, but I'll consider it.

That's pretty lame if this is on the level. The first Chibi-Robo! game is one of the most enjoyable and charming games I've ever played, and ever since they've been determined to pull away from that. You want people to support the IP? Stop taking away what makes it special!

This character deserves much better, and I hope Nintendo realizes that.
