Nintendo Versus! Twitter account for Nintendo competitive events

What game will take the last spot in the Nintendo Versus banner?

I'm surprised Pokkén's there, given that TPC typically handles those tournaments.

There's an open slot here.... Hm...

The open slot is probably Smash 4 Deluxe.

I can't be the only one who doesn't want Smash 4 ported. I'd rather wait a couple of years for a ground up Switch Smash 5 :(

Smash 4's groundwork is too solid to want to completely redo it all.

Seriously, an expanded Smash 4 with new characters, stages, modes, and gameplay tweaks would be better for everyone (quicker release for fans, cheaper for Nintendo).

Looks to me like this will be it for a while, I think this really points to Smash 4DX not being announced at E3. With Arms and Pokken DX they already have two first party fighting games for the Switch, plus Splatoon 2 and MK DX for other competitive games. Sending out Smash 4DX now would be a waste, especially since they can't even make enough Switches to meet demand. They might put something else in that spot, but I doubt it'll be Smash, not yet at least.

if the community would let melee die and Advance as the series does, they will have their support, you cant blame Nintendo for not supporting a 15 years old game

They just revealed the Pokken E3 tournament players:

MatPat
Nairo
Stephanie Patrick
JD Witherspoon
Justin Wong
Andre Meadows
Allister Singh
Ken

I'm only familiar with MatPat, Nairo, Justin Wong, and Ken.

"Super Smash Bros for Switch" is a curious name. Even if its a port it will not be called SSBDX I guess.

But it still could be a DX-like port OR be more of a substantial update. "for 3DS" and "for WiiU" were really different, so maybe for Switch will follow this and give us some real advancements.

Why do people have to move on when nothing out there is a suitable successor to Melee? Why not support the two Smash games and other properties like Splatoon, ARMS, and Pokken. The last 3 could really use it but they all deserve support.

Because they literally have no reason to support Melee, the Melee community spends all of their time telling people that all of the games released since Melee are inferior... why in the fuck would the company trying to sell said games support that message? It does them no benefit.

I hope we get a Smash DX. Smash 4 is a pretty good game, and thought I'm not really a fan of competitive Smash it would be nice to see them get support, assuming the community can get its shit together.

I think it's the other way around. If Nintendo actually supported the new smash games with pot bonuses and the like, people would move on. There's been many new fighting games where most of the scene thinks the old one is superior, but is forced to move on because that's what is getting supported and where the money is. Melee fans have had absolutely no incentive to go to a game they feel is not what they want.

And what possible reason would they have to support the competitive scene of a 15 year old game vs one that is ostensibly coming to Switch very soon? It makes no business sense, and I continue to wonder why the hell anyone would think they would do that.
Unless they make Melee HD.

I think Allister is the only Pokken player there.

It's obvious that Waluigi is getting is own MOBA switch game. Where you only can play as Waluigi and the only sound effects are WAHHHH. It will be glorious and it would kill Leauge and Dota

Is the onus on Nintendo for this though? The FGC built itself to where it is today, Capcom got involved because the community spent a decade plus getting to the point where it was beneficial to them. The players themselves also adapted to every new iteration of the games even if they weren't their favorite, have many Melee players even attempted to play Smash 4 competitively?

Exactly. Just make Melee HD and make bank off of it. You support the fans and you get a profit. But that's a topic for another thread.

the answer is yes, for both brawl and smash 4.

and when they realized it wasn't for them, they *gasp* went back to playing the game they actually enjoy playing.

I love how most people on the twitter page & this topic don't give a hoot about the other games and are wildly speculating something Smash Bros. related, all because of the banner.

Give it a rest, you saps. Nintendo will never endorse competive Smash, even if you turn blue in the face.

NoA has sponsored competitive Smash events several times in the past.

Gonna make Nintendo look even more horrifically out of touch if they push ARMS, Splatoon and such as their big eSports IPs while ignoring Smash despite that being the biggest one of all.

Smash 4 did get a push and it's old now. If there's a smash 5 or a port it'll get another push. This is advertisement.

Yes, Nintendo briefly paraded it at an invitational tournament at E3 2014, but outside from an officially sponsored amiibo-Smash tournament in Japan, they rarely hosts them. Never mind leaving it be.

I don't see it changing in the foreseeable future.
