With the advent of Nintendo's new development portal in October last year, the closure of the former site, WarioWorld.com, was announced to happen by the end of the year. It actually was up for some days into the new year, but now it appears to have been taken offline as it redirects to developer.nintendo.com. http://www.noa-engineering.com/ is still up however, and seems to act as a mirror of WarioWorld.com

This is what the site looked like in its last days:

It was of course a closed dev site, so I don't expect this to turn into some kind of campfire session where we recollect past memories of it. Though most people interested in Nintendo and development have likely visited the site at least a few times. And many likely remember the Project Café leaks of 2011 with these famous images:

Last year I also posted a thread with some old stuff from the site, from 2002 and 2003. It's definitely worth a look if you are interested in SDSG's operations back then: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1075043

You can also check out Mpl90's original thread about the new dev portal: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1125554

There you have it. Huge thanks to Rob Bakie and the team for handling the site these many years, and thanks for how the new dev site functions. It's quite great I think, very user friendly. And yes, there's some minor NX stuff on there, that's all.

I believe the pages after the login were a frameset.

Everything was done in tables, and while pretty much up-to-date and accurate, it was a dinosaur.

It's been a decade since the last "true" (as much as I like D.I.Y., it didn't quite count) WarioWare was released. :(

Goodnight, sweet prince.

Echoing this.

The newsgroups were a lot of fun by the way.

You were able to see early responses from people getting early hardware (going back to GBA stuff). You could even see people switching jobs, but still logging into the newsgroups, as well as colleagues from other companies.

People were very helpful, especially the SDSG guys. I'd sometimes just call people to ask for more details about a post or issue we were running into. Good times :)

I was using it daily when we were working on DS / Wii stuff.

We're now a WiiU licensed dev, but very few opportunities to even work with the hardware.

from what I've heard, it's [a bit of a pain]* to develop for the Wii U

hopefully the new site and new console will make everything better

*paraphrased for civility

Weren't those comments pre-launch? A lot of their development initiatives to improve the process were post-launch (web framework, etc.).

nah, just a guy I know around I think 2014? he had to port a thing to Wii U and wasn't overly happy about it :P

I'm sure it works fine once you know what you're doing

Good night, garlic-addicted prince. Welcome again, modern portal.

I liked the idea behind it being appropriately coined by Wario. Felt like a very Nintendo thing to do. It just needed a fresh coat of paint.

I haven't been to warioworld in a long time but back in the days, my team was so frustrated with the DS's Handling of color pallete(can't understand shit) we were trying to access the site for days, trying to get help/ask question. Ends up only NA/Eu devs can access the English site, and I'm working for a Japanese company and using a JP dev kit.

Yeah, that used to be the case. The new dev portal is fortunately accessible by both western and JP developers. They've even got a few templates for languages other than English and Japanese.

Oh no :(

Welp, a new page is starting. Hope this will be easier overall for both Nintendo and other devs.

Wow, finally!
I hope this means the new portal is much more ambitious and show some effort toward developers.
Will check code and stuff asap.

Oh, it is. It's miles beyond WarioWorld in terms of user friendliness and web design. The code is decent, though they seem to rely heavily on a very limited selection of protocols.

Okay, I'm missing something. What does the WarioWorld domain have to do with development? Did Nintendo just say "lol nobody bought this, let's just use the domain as a secret dev site since nobody's going to look there anyway"?

Yeah basically. The WarioWorld website came into being before there was a Wario character in any game, let alone a Wario World game.

Sure but those are superficial things. I meant what is behind is more interesting. I mainly wonder if documentation, support and publishing process are streamlined behind the new portal, or if the new portal redirects to the same old set of web apps.

A few years after WarioWorld came out the official game site was shuttered and they turned it into a developer portal, likely for the reasons you said.

Just a domain they had lying around and it probably wasn't going to attract that much attention.

Naw, the WarioWorld developer site was around long before the Wario World game. I was accessing it back in 1999 as a GBC developer.

The puplishing process (and maintenance of games/services) is via a different resource. Documentation and some support is directly via the development portal.
