Nintendo's Money pit.

I have gone from silver > gold > silver > gold no problem.

when my gold membership expired a message pops up telling me its reverting back to silver and signs me out.

when I log back in its silver again.

This is different from calling and having it reverted to Silver. If you call, you're shit out of luck, despite what the rep tells you.

That's true but in that sense then they probly shouldn't have the bought the system in the first place either and just waited.

Y'know, things change. I didn't buy it with the sense of doing that, things came up and the 360 was an asset that had to be liquidated. I'm not made of money unlike some people here who can throw it away on garbage games, which is why I was always very selective.

What about Gold->Silver->Gold? And I think old gamertags would become permanently disabled after a certain amount of time on the old XBox, is that still the case?
Yeah, my understanding is that if you bought Gold on credit card and then cancel it or cancel your credit card and revert to Silver, you are stuck. If you use prepaid cards you can go Gold>Silver>Gold no problems.

Faceless Master confirmed this for me the other day I am pretty sure. And Barnolde seems to be saying the same thing.

Yeah, pretty much. When I get myself a new 360 (hurry up Falcon), I need to get a new gamertag, and I'm strictly just going to use prepaid cards as to avoid any of these issues in the first place.

It's like the people who bought the 360 at launch and sold them 3-6 months after the system came out because it had no games. Then rebought the system when Gears of War came out. I'd rather spend the $400 once.

Ive had the Wii since launch. I ran into a spot where I needed money and since I dont play the Wii it was chosen to be sold. Im just pissed that there is no way to recover games Ive paid for if I ever decide to buy the system later.

All three consoles need to use the Steam model.

They don't, but they still need to. I have a fair number of VC games, and when a (purely hypothetical) Wii with increased internal storage and 720p upscaling is released, I'm going to want to transfer the VC games to the new version and sell my current one.

If this is not made possible by the time this hypothetical console is released, I'm going to be profoundly irritated, and would almost definitely stop me from buying any other games that fail in that capacity.

PS3 seems to work pretty well. I bought a couple games over PSN, returned the console. Bought a new PS3, entered my account information, and presto... all my purchases are ready to be downloaded, no charge.

Don't know whether I just managed to accidentally avoid the traps or if it's really always that easy.

On one hand, I feel for you, their system is awful. On the other, serves you right for willingly taking it up the ass.

Maybe he wants them free. Roms before the Wii were $0. So any price is overpriced.
Nintendo was selling Super Mario World for $0.00 prior to the release of the Wii? Wow, must have missed that.

Well to be fair, I DO own the cart (twice, actually).
And, to be fair, if you buy a Mac, or even a second PC, Microsoft isn't going to be friendly if you decide to download a warez version of Office with the explanation that you already bought the software once.

Am I the only guy who actually ensures that I will get my money's worth out of a system before I ever buy it?
no. thats why I usually buy into consoles later. Except for Gamecube and Wii, that was the case. However with GCN and wii I knew what I was going to get basically before launch and was prepared for droughts. I never sell systems if I need money either. Its called being financially repsonsible. Always leave enough money in reserves in case of emergencies and for last-resort spending. If it gets so bad you have to sell a videogame system to stay afloat then youre really not managing money wisely.

"Overpriced roms" is a bit relative...

Where can I find an $8 copy of Gunstar Heroes delivered instantly at my home??...the one at eBay is going for $0.50 more and takes around a week to arrive...

Or a $10 Paper Mario??....or an $8 Donkey Kong Country 2 (which I just bought)??..all delivered instantly...

And I don't have any of those games....and even..never owned a few of them...heck I was willing to pay $60 for Virtua Fighter 2 on Genesis back when it was released...and $20 a few months ago for a copy of it..and now I have it..and just paid $6 for it. (costing only 10% of the original price and less than half of what I was willing to pay a few months ago)...

But they're free on the internet. Thus they have no value.

Actually, they will let me move the software to my new platform...no problem, no cost.

So why buy it again?

Personally, I haven't. I've not downloaded anything on VC so far. I suppose it is useful to people recently getting in to gaming, but I still have every system and every game I've ever owned back to the Atari VCS.

That's the ironic thing.
Here, a forum of many self-proclamed "hardcore gamers"..talking about "overpriced games"..were many are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for some rare/weird-lolli game...yet, they recommend to download "classic" games online on the computer "for free"..and not pay for them.. :lol

TheGreatDave said:
You can't have it running on two PCs at once though, can you? Which is what the equivalent of this is.

Let's be realistic, why would I want to play Mario World on two platforms at once? You and I both know that isn't the case. Honestly, all I'm really asking for is a little value from Nintendo. Add something to the game and I'd consider repurchasing. Give me online multiplayer...that would do it. Hell, I bought Symphony of the Night on Xbox Live just for the challenge of getting the achievements. I'm not fully against rebuying a game, but if they put in just a little effort I'd feel less ripped off doing so.

I guess what I'm saying is that if Nintendo made it look like they were putting more effort in than a typical rom dump website, perhaps people would be less inclined to direct people to other less expensive rom dumps (illegal as they may be).

I dunno, I wish I could play Mario World on everything I own.

All at once? Haha. You must have extra hands. Microsoft will let you install Office on everything you can get it to run on...so long as it is only on one of them at a time.

Dammit!

I guess Microsoft are a nicer company!

When you paid for Super Mario All-Stars and got a bonus game? SMW wasn't always included with All-Stars! :lol

i got nothin

You couldn't take your old copy of All-Stars back and get a new version with SMW. ARGUMENT DENIED!

I'm pretty damn sure this isn't true, at least in the US. The language of the licensing agreement in the retail version is as follows:

As outlined in the Microsoft Software License Terms, users can install and use one copy of Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac on a single computer. If a user is the primary user of that computer, the user can also install a second copy of Office, for his or her exclusive use, on a portable computer, as long as that computer is not connected to the same network as the computer that has the primary copy.

So you can't just install it on whatever you want. And there's no obvious provisions I see for transferring between Mac and PC versions... I saw one online retailer that offered that service but I'm questioning the legality of it.

Well I wasnt aware of this and Im not sure it really matters...but, I sold my Wii and in the interest of keeping my info secure I went through the process of untying my MyNintendo.com account from the wii. I then went through the process of removing my log on info from the Wii and guess what? It deletes every purchase of VC games from the console. No way to keep what you paid for and transfer it to a new user. Only you have the right to play the games YOU paid for.

No way to recover those purchases either if at some point I decide to buy another Wii. Just a warning for you that the VC is even worse than a ROM dump, because you cant keep what you pay for.
What did you say? It sounded like a cashregister opening and closing. Kinda like, "Ch-ching, ch-ching."

The Sphinx said:
So just don't play the games? Or are you suggesting we steal them?
Maybe I'm not the right person to ask since I don't really care for older games, but you should definitely not steal them. I'm 100% against piracy. I suppose I'm just annoyed that Nintendo is making mad money for doing almost nothing, and not doing that particularly well. If there hasn't been a re-release or compelation, then I'd personally hunt down the original cart and console before going for a VC release, but that's just me.

I did get Mario World free though. It came with my GBA.

Compilations are a great option if they're available. In most cases the VC pricing is the lowest MSRP ever offered on these games sold individually, but some of them can be found in large compilations with other great software and more-or-less equally good emulation.

went and bought a 12 + 1 subscription card and went gold again a month or so later.

*EDIT*
you cannot cancel the subscription... you must let it expire... once you cancel it you cannot use it again.
the problem is, if you pay with a CC, the account doesn't expire, it auto-renews.

and that's where people start having problems.

Heh, I'm glad your world is so perfect! The reason I'm on my third PS2 is that, as a freelancer, my income can go up and down really quickly. One year I'll have tons of money, the next, I need to sell my toys to pay the electric bill. When they shut off the power, it's not too useful, anyway. :D

I don't think I understand what the original poster is saying, could someone clarify?

This is what I got out of it but can't make sense of:

If one has tied a Wii to a mynintendo.com account and have some VC-games on that Wii. Then decides to sell that Wii and also untie it from said mynintendo.com account, it will delete all VC-games on that Wii?

If it does delete the VC-games, is it not possible for the new owner of that Wii to redownload those VC-games later?

If you let your membership expire, you wouldn't even have to pay that! Just flash your card, and get in there for the free eats.
