Nintendo's next console should be the Wii HD

I'd be happy if they focused on games rather than the next elaborate control input. The amount of varied Wii peripherals were hugely irritating and none of them really felt 'revolutionary'

Go back to making games fun please thanks.

I'd like to see the playtime of the Wii generation. Any 'casuals' I know literally only played the thing in a group setting or drunk. I'd be surprised if the majority of them weren't just collecting dust. My girlfriend has one and in the 3 years I've known her she has never even turned it on.

I'm with you on the majority of you points OP but there are some things i disagree with.

1. Nintendo cannot alienate third parties or traditional control schemes. It was the issue with the original Wii. People still want the option to play with a regular controller and they should have it... it was because of the lack of an original controller packed in that many publishers decided not to develop for the Wii... even with the install base that was superior to the 360 / PS3

2. Online Infrastructure is key for Nintendo's survival. We live in a connected world now and many services are being added into the competitions networks. If Nintendo wants to future proof their console they need to ensure that the Nintendo network is on par or better than the competition.

Aside from these... i Agree that nintendo should make the focus of motion controls the focal point of the next system. Human interaction outside of button input was how they won last generation... if they can turn around the Wii U with just their first party titles alone then I would recommend they keep the Wii brand... call it something like Wii ³

but it might be a better idea to drop the name all together in favor of something new that falls in line with their Unified OS approach so people understand the next mobile and home console are one in the same.

Nah. They need to continue remastering Wii games for the Wii U though. They have only done 1 so far, and it was a gamecube game! They are sitting on a gold mine for sure. Galaxy HD? Sunshine HD? Not to mention Zelda, Metroid games too.

Whatever it is, its name better not contain the word "new" again. It's as corny and terrible as it is clueless about how it would sound a generation later.

Agreed. Time to move on from the Wii name.

And I always cringed at "Super Wii"
I cringed at Wii but it done pretty well. To double down on that brand again they should of gone for "Super" and not "U" At least no one would be confused of it being an add-on to the original Wii.

The only real option is the Super GameCube. Make super GameCube controllers (which add a home, +, and - buttons and have better bumpers and triggers, and are wireless) support the GameCube adapter, Wii remotes, gamepad, and pro controllers. Gamepad won't be standard, but they should have it be compatible.

The handheld should be able to stream any console game, and it should also work in the opposite way, too: the SGC should be able to stream those games day 1.

I feel like we're well past the point of the best work being done with motion controls. There might be a few more ideas but never enough for that to be the console again.

Whatever they do, 'Nintendo' should be back in the name of the console.

Whatever they do with their next console, you can be sure it'll be gimmicky as hell which will ensure no third party support.

So let's hope they've got some good ideas for what Mario and Friends can do next.

All these years later and people still describe a system that won its generation and was basically sold out for FOUR YEARS - 'fad'. 'Grandmas' and 'casuals' get a look in as well. Smh.

It died when Nintendo support died, simple as that. It also didn't hurt that HDTV adoption had finally achieved a critical mass about 3 years into its life.

The highest selling game (apart from the bundled Wii sports) was Mario Kart, which incidentally also outsold any individual game ever released on a Sony or Microsoft platform.

Can we be friends?
