Nintendo's two week digital download exclusivity for Wind Waker is an insulting bribe

Yeah I was on the fence on the "bribe" word. It's certainly not a bribe if you're already a big fan of NIntendo's eShop, but if you consider the two weeks exclusivity to be an "incentive" for a product that you don't want, then I think "bribe" is apt.

its not an incentive .it is an OPTION. If they would have waited to release them the same day this thread would not exist PERIOD.

I love Steam. Steam doesn't have any of the core problems that the eShop has. Read the first post.

Not everyone is bothered by those problems. If someone is going to steal my console they will probably steal the games sitting next to it. If it breaks, I'll do the same thing I've did with my Wii and send it to Nintendo.

Oh quit moaning.

At least you can fucking play it. We here in the UK have to wait another two weeks.

You've been given essentially a way to get it two weeks earlier than everyone else. How is that not a good thing?

Just like you guys getting Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 earlier than us?

I don't get why I should wait for someone else's preferred method to get ready while mines is set to roll. I hate physical copies, so why should I be forced to wait on you when you are not forced to buy my preference?

Wait how is this any different than pricing the DD version under retail? Both are incentives to purchase the DD version and are made possible because there is no manufacturing.

A little over the top OP.

It's nice to have as an option. If you're willing to not be bothered by the digital account system then it's a nice deal. If not the two week wait isn't going to kill you to play an HD rerelease of a 10 year old game.

There are two ways of looking at it. Nintendo released the digital version two weeks early or Nintendo is releasing the retail version two weeks late. In this thread the glass is clearly half empty.

God I am just so angry about this. Releasing a game early is so anti-consumer.

Yeah not my argument.

Nintendo's core product needs a dramatic improvement, and instead of addressing this, they're layering on other features and not addressing it. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I think it makes them look bad that they're not responding to consumer desires.

I really don't understand the complaint here. There are a million threads out there complaining about Nintendo's digital problems. And the title of this thread doesn't seem to be complaining about those anyway, though they are listed in the OP.
But I mean, really, you are complaining because you don't want to buy the digital version but other people can? Should I get mad that the store sells hot dogs even though I don't like hot dogs? I don't get it.
More aptly maybe, the store sells plain hot dogs, but to get the ones with special holiday packaging (or some shit) I have to wait two weeks, so fuck you for buying the hot dogs before the ones I want or out? Is that about it?

The dates were announced in advance, the eShop version is earlier than that date but the package versions are right on time (same with Wii Fit U). You can wait for the package version if that's what you want. I am and I'll also get the deluxe version that's not available on the eShop. Nintendo' dual strategy makes going either way a good choice I think. Incentivising both I think is very forward thinking.

Again I'll ask what discounts do Xbox live and psn offer for digital new releases?

Digital should get earlier releases and be cheaper actually. You guys get ability to resell or trade in. Seems fair to me. There needs to be more incentive to buy digital. I snatched it up as soon as I had the chance despite Nin's terrible account system.

If you don't intend to buy anything from their eshop then this should change nothing for you. When they have sales on specific titles are those considered to be bribes as well?

Why the do you act as if you are entitled to having the retail copy at the same time? It's not like that they promised you something and now they are withholding it.

Get the eshop release.

So basically because you have some unrelated complaints about their online store in general they're not allowed to do anything to promote their service or encourage people to use it, until it works exactly as you want it to

I'm not sure what's left to discuss about Nintendo's account system in its current form on this forum at this point. It sucks, yes. And for someone in your position, it's frustrating. I hope they overhaul their system with the next big update.

Monster Hunter 3 at 50% off on the eShop until Sept. 22nd is an insulting bribe.

Never thought I'd see the day where people would complain about Nintendo offering titles digitally.

"Damn Nintendo, stop giving me options! You fuckers!"

Still hilarious to me that freaking Nintendo was the first one of the Big 3 to do day and date digital on all first party titles and most third party titles. Even Microsoft still takes forever to makes their 360 titles available digitally.

In this case, they're not letting the fact they have to wait for discs to print prevent people that want the game from purchasing it

All new releases in Europe on consoles cost more digitally than they do in shops, let's not pretend its an eshop only issue

I'm not and I hate this on PSN and Xbox Marketplace too. I never buy from new games from their stores because I'm not stupid enough to pay £10 more for less of a game.

So this is just a thread complaining about the eshop?
Yes, and every single one made is worth it because it's just that bad.

Hahaha, why would they change when they're making so much money off sales from people like you? What's their incentive?

You do realize that the early eShop release has nothing to do with building a more robust network infrastructure, right?

I agree. There is no reason for it to launch early on eShop/late at retail, and it pisses me off to no end. All I want to do is play this awesome game and I can't because they are greedy.

I'm still tempted to get digital, which pisses me off even more. If there was no figure I would then get the game later, but i need that figure and I can't afford both, which i'm glad because thats just wasting money.

Everyday Nintendo just seems to be getting worse. First releasing what is essentially a bigger level pack to 3D Land in 3D World (among other games which feel like level packs.) to now releasing the game early on their eShop. For NSLU I might understand, but for WW? They are just plain greedy and it pisses me off knowing I could be playing it now but can't. Fuckers.

You need to understand Nintendo. Costs for HD development are high and sales for Wii U hardware and software low. Thus getting more people on eShop, where they don't have shipping/production costs and no sharing of revenues with retailers is a good solution for them. Those who buy it at retail will get it for a lower price (Super Luigi U was a special case).

Indeed. How dare them try to tempt us into buying stuff off the eShop before we get unified accounts and cheaper prices?

Yes, there is. When the game is ready it can be made available online right away, while retail needs to have the discs printed and shipped all over the world. Gosh, you guys can't be this dense.

When a digital game releases the same day as retail, it's the digital version that released late.

This isn't just a Nintendo thing. Every company would rather you buy the Digital version.

The reason is that it takes several weeks to manufacture and ship discs, while it takes less than an hour to upload a file to a download server.

This is not complicated, people.

Going to be interesting to see how many people pick up Ace Attorney 5 on the eShop. Especially given the eShop credit deal for FE/SMT4.

why are they greedy if there is no possible way they can get the games shipped out to stores by that time?

You are the one being greedy. You do not want anyone else to have the option to play before you because you choose another option.
