Nintendo's withholding info to use Miis from 3rd parties

Well, as much as this is a dumb move, i don't think it's that dumb. How out of place would a Mii look in a Madden game? :/

They wouldn't have to use the actual Mii character model in a Madden game.

EA could have their regular character creator and just pull the actual Mii DATA (eye/hair color, skin tone, shirt color, face shape, etc) to suggest a default model for you.

I'm surprised Nintendo didn't have this stuff available from day one. They should be encouraging third parties to use Wii specific stuff as much as possible.

The biggest pile of crap is that no-one will ever ask Nintendo why. Or if they do, they won't grill the answer out of them. Gaming journalism is so bad that when gamespot or IGN get a reggie interview they just suck him off for 2 pages, just like they do with anyone from MS or Sony. They'll throw the occasional hardball question in but they'll let the weasels PR out of it. Why isn't there respectable gaming journalism anywhere for this kind of thing?

Wii Play does Where's Waldo with Mii's

Yes, but it only uses Miis. I mean Mii's mixed in in places where they obviously don't belong. Note my Call of Duty 4 mention.

I could see a gritty, violent game like Manhunt, with a Mii cameo. That would be almost as awesome as a Mii based FPS or Mii Musou. Plus, non-sequitors FTW.

Part of the reason the Mii system works, in my opinion, is because Nintendo keeps everything consistent. I'm not just talking about something like the UI in Mii-related games, though I'm sure that is something customers appreciate, but the general philosophy behind the Mii idea and the quality of the game. Something simplistic, with controls that are always incredibly solid and smooth, fun with other people, even common musical themes and visual styles.

Now imagine if they just give this away to any developer who wants it. You'll see studios like Ubisoft and whoever is making that shovelware crap like Ninjabread Man stuffing Miis into every available game orifice in an attempt to cash in on Nintendo's golden goose.

Because make no mistake, the Miis are a huge brand now. Everyone in America has Wii Sports, they're built into the voting channel (and I'm sure there'll be more of this), and Wii Play is selling incredibly well. Even in Japan without bundles both the Mii games are at or close to a million copies sold in just a few months on a new system, which is incredible.

Nintendo has a new IP on their hands, and they need to be careful in how they use it or else it could die pretty quickly, and I'm reasonably sure that just giving it to third parties with no restrictions would do just that. Now, this is something they can leverage to help third party sales and further differentiate games on their console, so yeah it needs to happen, but it's also something that's probably pretty hard to work out quickly and definitely a unique problem in the market. They have to have some kind of oversight and quality control over games that will feature Miis, which means coming to some kind of compromise with licensees who don't want to give up any control over their own development process.

So there's that. And as to people who want characters of different styles generated from Mii data? That sounds like something Nintendo should be (and probably is) working on, and it also sounds pretty complex and will take some time to develop. They have a lot more freedom with this kind of thing now that their console is online with built-in storage and firmware updates, so I think we can count on tech like this slowly evolving and making appearances down the line. Expecting it right out of the gate is pretty unrealistic.

Some forum-goers really need to start thinking about stuff like this logically instead of just spouting retarded shit like "ZOMG NINTENDO HATES THIRD PARTIES, MONEY GRUBBERS CONFIRMED". They've mentioned third party Mii games before and third parties have mentioned it before so we can be damn sure it's something they're working on, and there are pretty compelling reasons as to why it's not ready yet. Whining about wanting everything right this minute is pretty short-sighted and ignorant considering how game consoles have always evolved over their lifespans.

I couldn't have said it better myself except I guess I would say it shorter and just say, "For f*ck's sake, 3rd parties would f*ck it up."
