Nioh Last Chance Trial Thread: It's your last chance, seriously.

There's an even more depressing one where the guy defeats him using only barehand counters.
If by depressing you mean awesome :D. I was having such a laugh watching that after struggling to get a win for the first time.

The was also the one from the Beta where someone set up a bunch of Ninjutsu and magic stuff, shot ol' Muge once in the head with the Handcannon and then retreated to the narrow part where all the traps and bomb charms and whatnot killed him.

You mean during his running slash? Yes, the I-frames of the dodge will let you pass freely through his attack, and it provides position to attack his backside for more damage. The timing is actually more generous because you're passing past his hitbox before your i-frames can end.

Dodging towards him is actually the best way to avoid his attacks.

Totally with you there. I wish more games did fun stuff like this.

Ohh ok. Thanks, I'll try it again.

Tengu is all about stick with a very hard attack and move, stick and move. Don't go combo crazy.

Yeah there seems to be little way to stop that spinning kick attack of his once it gets going and it seems to be the go to move solo and the finisher of his short combo. His dive kick attack is pretty easy to avoid as it the aerial slash attack.

Not trying to be down, just noticed something while playing.

The artificial difficulty is oozing out of this.

Still buying it for the cousin so I can play it

Finally beat Mineshuge Samurai at level 25 after beating the Twilight Mission for higher gear. Lots of dodging and medium stance attacks and weapon buffs. The ogress was much easier on Twilight, IMO.

I never touched the alpha or betas this game is totally new to me. Huge souls fan here. Omg I'm loving this demo it's so fun and love the game play.
Few questions:
I'm trying the skill or dexterity type weapons. Sometime I do this crazy finishing move. How does that work?
Guardian spirit how does that work or exactly what does that do?
How does the ninjutsu magic work?

Still not sure what to think of this game honestly. Beat everything but, yeah. Souls Gaiden I guess, it certainly isn't bad by any stretch though, judging from this at least.

They are based around the spirit stat. Go to the shrines and you can see what level of spirit you need to use them and then as you increase your spirit you increase their specific benefits whether its ki regeneration or something like that. To use living weapon press Triangle and Circle together when you have your Guardian Spirit equipped. You lose it after you die a first time and then you have to run back to where you died like a Souls game or can call it back to the shrine but you lose all the money you dropped with it after your first death. Living Weapon is like your Devil Trigger and lets you do more damage and makes really hard to stun so you can spam attacks like crazy.

You should have received a notice after you beat Ogress and cleared the mission that said something along the lines of unlocking something in the final game (via a Boon at a Shrine) with the final release. You might have skipped past it, as it could have been perceived to be in-relation to the Mark system, which is something completely different.

Basically:

Marks = 2x Masks
Clear Data of Ogress/Normal = 1x Mask

At least, that's what I was told anyway. So no worries, as long as you beat Ogress and saved afterwards (by completing the mission), you should be good!

Yeah, I saw something like that, but skipped past it pretty quick. I thought it was just talking about the first two marks, since afterwards, it took me to a PS Store to download them again. Anyway, thx chrono01!

Thanks. Was kinda confused on all that. Havnt been following this game at all but I'm loving it

Holy shit, I accidentally summoned someone, I guess (in retrospect, I guess offering a cup for a visitor sounds like a summons, doesn't it?) and this guy was absolutely pimped out and wrecked everything in our path.

Thank you, random stranger, you were amazing.

That one bird enemy hyped me up super hard again.

I feel like the level design isn't really there but I also feel like they're not aiming for the same Souls feel. Honestly thought the Alpha's level with all the water was my favorite just because it's unabashedly an enemy gauntlet and that's where this game shines the most. The one area they showed off at E3 (mighta been TGS?) in the Tara Cotta dungeon was reeaaalllyyyy cool but otherwise I'm not expecting a whole lot. But, hey, I really hope they knock it out with more sweet enemy types since that's where Nioh is excelling right now.

Beat Ogress and the swordsman shortly after. Only a bit into the twilight mission but will come back to it tomorrow most likely.

People keep using that word in the weirdest contexts. I could understand it when it was used to describe the silly added mobs in the Twilight Stage bosses in the Beta, but here? Like, please describe the things you find to be exemplary of artificial difficulty, as opposed to Honest Joe's Plain Faced Good Difficulty™.

And no, I'm not giving shit here. I'm honestly asking.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm in the same boat, and while I'm not very far into it, everything feels right to me so far. I was about to start SotFS, but I might wait and just play this instead.

There's some real bullshit in the game. Sometimes when I try to use Haze 2 on Muneshige, the followup attack to the parry won't connect (I'm guessing because of height difference) which gives him enough time to start his next attack on me.

I just beated the main & twilight missions. That samurai duel mission I can't beat even though I'm level 35. Difficult level in this game is insane. I would buy this game if it weren't that hard.

Finally beat the demo

Cheesed the last boss and not even ashamed of it ;)

Strat:
Run around the rock, keep your body half hidden behind the rock and use the hard button with the kusarigama when the samurai is one second away from getting hit by it. Keep running around the rock and wait for him on the top corner and hit him again, eventually you will deplete all his health

After loosing for more than 100 times in a row I came to the conclusion I was either low level or had no skills, got smart and found a flaw in the AI! ;)

Just coached my brother through the demo level :p. He didn't play the betas so it was fun to see him improve. It took a while before he took down the Ogress, but in the end he could do it while barely getting touched lol.

Anyone with a PRO and 4k setup get any options for 4k? All i see is three different modes but no option that says 4k....

Damn think I took this twilight mission on a little too under leveled. Getting wrecked by the first 6 guys on a regular basis. Those giant stone swordsman are one shotting me with their oversmash attack.

I think those guys still one shot me as well, but I 3 shot them. Kind of a glass cannon. I don't like heavy armor though I would like to be able to endure a slight bit more.

Finished all parts of demo. Used hammer as weapon of choice, heavy attack stance.

Although i like the combat and some of the enemy designs. I find the environments and level design to be boring.

Going to pass on the game.

Seeing people hate Tachibana lol , he is really great boss to let you master the mechanics of this game IMO , I almost beat him at level 8

The game is fair in the sense that you can potentially beat anything with no weapons or skills or armor (so far at least), but it definitely has artificial difficulty, which is not the same as cheap difficulty (first mimic chest or bed of chaos come to mind).

I mean I think it's pretty obvious where the artificial difficulty is in this game: the ridiculously huge HP bars of enemies. The two bosses of this demo aren't particularly hard to dodge or well designed, so the developers throw tons of HP at them so the players have many more chances of making a mistake. And making one mistake in this game generally means the boss is going to oneshot you.

Bosses are infinitely more trial and error than Souls, yet the two of them can oneshot you at your first mistake and give you way less room to learn them. Thankfully you can rush the path back to them easily and fast and loading times are short, otherwise it'd be an absolute chore to learn the bosses' patterns.

Basically, bosses are hard because it takes an eternity to damage them, and not because they have an awesome and hard to counter moveset. That definitely sucks and is my biggest issue with this game.

Glad I played the demo...I would've probably bought this when it launched based on the impressions here. Now I can definitely wait.

I think its more the design philosophy is different. Armor is far more important than it is in a game like Bloodborne and since its loot driven the design of bosses is going to take that into account in both the fact they may have a small bit of a gear check for those who aren't masters of the gameplay systems because they need the buffer provided by the bigger better stat bonuses of an all purple high level set of gear and weapons.

It changes things up and some people won't like it but honestly I was taking the Ogress down by level 8 or so with a mostly blue set with like two purples and by the time I did beat her she barely hit me and it was no longer than 2 minutes, if that. Its all about the same as an average souls boss in my opinion maybe even a little easier if you have the ki pulse down as well as the dodge move ki pulse.

So I'm upto the ogeress and only finding myself doing 150 dmg per hit. Is this normal?. Activating the super and about 2 mins of dmg, only got her hp to around 70%...

So with Ogress, how do I dodge her flail attack? If it wasn't for that I would've wrecked her. Every time she does it her back is against the wall.

She actually has no hitboxes on her attacks when you're hugging her. If she comes at you, you just need to dodge into her or past her to avoid getting hit by them. In case of the flail, I just ended up hugging her and she'd just swing all over without hitting me.

So is it correct that you don't have to finish the twilight mission or the duel to unlock all the release bonuses? Just the normal ogress?

Fought my way to the twilight mission ogress but if it's not necessary, not sure I'll bother finishing it off.

When does this end?
Stroke of midnight on the 22nd I believe. (I.e. ends on the 23rd)

Just now I had her down to 20% health and she did that attack again but I couldn't tell and just got annihilated.

Edit: That attack is 100% bullshit.

Looks like this game has difficulty settings.

I checked the matchmaking area and there was a difficulty select option. It was grayed out, but should be clues to the final game.

Just beat Ogress. Found her much easier than the bat lady boss from the beta. So just to be clear to get the bonus item I just had to do that mission and then not delete the game
