Nioh Last Chance Trial Thread: It's your last chance, seriously.

Just got to the Ogress for the first time and got her down to past half health when she broke out that big combo and she got me during a mistimed dodge. Also the it seems the trick to avoiding the jump attack is to wait to dodge as she gets to the top of her jumps arch instead of dodging as she's rising or right after as she slam's into the ground.

Other than that the low stance ki pulse dodge with the dual swords is broken as hell. Most enemies are going down without even getting a shot in and many can't even get in a proper attack, even Yokai are going down fast and hard once you learn their visual tells before an attack.

I'm not sure why but the game just really clicked with me this time. I'm not even as cautious anymore and rocking enemies. I think once I start getting used to switching stances and regaining ki that way and get better with heavy and medium its going to be a rampage. Really loving it and I will probably get this day 1 despite my wallets pain with Gravity Rush 2 and other games. If only a store would do those buy 2 gey 1 free deals lol

I want to finish GR2 and Yakuza 0 before this comes out.

-.-

Need. More. Time.

whats the best way to dodge the ogress trash bullshit ass high jump attack

I may be wrong but it seems right at the top arc of her jump so you have to basically wait a little more than a second before dodging and its either dodge side to side or towards her depending on her location in comparison to your character when she jumps. If you dodge right after she jumps she locks onto you before you can pull off another dodge and too late and she's already slamming down onto you before you can get out of the range of her attack once it lands.

I'm sorry but Ogress is just stupid. I think the game can be fun at times, but this fight is not well designed.

That, or maybe my definition of a fun challenge is not doing the exact same attack - pulse - dodge cycle for 3 minutes until her absolutely absurd bulletspongey lifebar gets low enough to trigger her second phase in which she can do an attack that oneshots me (that chained claw bullshit) with little to no visual clue or time to react to it.

Basically I can't play the way I want (up close, fast stance) because my attacks won't do any damage whatsoever and I won't be able to stagger her. Not to mention the claw attack of the second phase will oneshot me if I'm close to her.

I've watched people fighting her and I see they're using buffs and items and special shit and they're turtling the hell out of her for 4 minutes. Why give the players so many combat options if you're going to force one of them? I don't want to block, I don't want to use other stances, I don't want to use other weapons.

People sold this game on the alledged freedom you had to play it the way you want, but so far I'm being absolutely forced to use mid/heavy stance, block and farm for better items/level, which is not true for any of the Souls games except 2. Doesn't help that every weapon is essentially the same thanks to the stance system.

I really liked the bird mini-boss even if he was a bit on the sponge side too, but Ogress is just bullshit. Feels like Laurence from Bloodborne: annoyingly long first phase that is easy to dodge but will twoshot you if hit. Then get to the second phase and get oneshoted because you get stuck with the camera –Ogress camera is absolute trash, you can't even get remotely close to a wall, it's worse than Capra Demon–, rinse and repeat until your patience runs out.

I mean, I can make Pinwheel "hard" too. I can give him 100000 HP and make his attacks oneshot fools.

Overpowering the hell out of enemies and having the player die with 2-3 hits is definitely a form of artificial difficulty, and this game sadly seems to have a lot of it, because even the regular enemies are like this. I mean, I guess I can farm random loot and buff myself and use items or magic transformations or whatever to lessen the feeling of the oh-so-real spongeness of the game but that's the reason I like Souls, I can beat anything with a sword and no armor, even with no leveling up and no items or magic, no matter what.

I guess this is not for me. Maybe the sequel.

That's super easy. Just roll towards her when she's coming down. I am having trouble with stamina return in phase 2. But almost got her.

Uh, souls bosses kill in 2-3 hits also wtf are you going on about? The best method of attack in this game is the one you say isn't effective LOL Seriously

The one thing I always recommend is the stamina regen spell, it auto dispels the miasma puddles and lets you be even more aggressive. It's always helpful on the harder phases of a fight when they tend to slam down a million puddles and you might have to dodge more.

Question for those playing: are the twin katanas still ridiculously overpowered?

Please say yes. Low stance square spam is how I got through Hino-Emma.

Yes they still kick ass, ki dodge on everything makes the other weapons a lot better now too though. Spear is still probably the best overall

when they are people who are not levelling up and playing naked in nioh one shotting bosses tells me you don't know how to play nioh

I don't know if you have it by default or I bought the skill, but your dodge can double up as a ki pulse too, so you're regaining stamina whilst moving.
I have it and it does nothing to fix my problem. Ki Pulsing requires you to do nothing for a moment after attacking, and I find myself needing to dodge much earlier than that too often.

While I don't think the issues are quite as extreme as you've put it, everything you've outlined aligns with my concerns with the game. The slash barrage is not very well telegraphed and I'm not sure that my strategy of hugging her is legit or a bug. Leaning towards the latter tbh. Overall, there's a familiar feeling of "unpolished first game in the IP" feel but I'm willing to overlook that. The foundations for something great is there, so I'm willing to give it a pass on certain things for now.

...how.

Srsly though. Fuck Tachibana. I hate him and his stupid honourable bows as he watches me die! It's 1am and I've had enough of him and his electric poodle. I'm going to bed.
Thing I liked about Tachibana fight the loading time for retrying to fight him is really fast I managed to beat him in around my 30th try while being abit underpowered

Yeah they are. Once you get the low stance dodge ki pulse and a few more upgrades you are demolishing most enemies, even Yokai. I nearly beta the Ogress on my first try doing this and I probably would have if I didn't mess up and take a full combo to the face.

At the boss now. The game really is fantastic. It's not up to the level of the souls games in some aspects but it's damn close. Really great work from Team Ninja. Can't wait for the game's release.

Uhh you can do that in this game too. Have you not seen the videos of people running through the beta/alpha with no armor/wooden sword.

I have it and it does nothing to fix my problem. Ki Pulsing requires you to do nothing for a moment after attacking, and I find myself needing to dodge much earlier than that too often.

I don't stop moving, I spam R1 and move at the same time and it seems to work.

Will we be able to purchase the mask you can have when you finish the demo or is it exclusive? Because I don't think I will be able to play this week-end...

Hit detection with the large bosses just seems off.

Loading times in general are fantastic. No waiting 40 seconds per death in this game
Yeah huge props for that. Just wish there was a more streamlined way to pick up your spirit in a boss fight. I don't even care about the amrita (which isn't even an issue in the duel), but having to start a fight with lower stats until you pick up your spirit feels like a chore. Having to refresh it at the shrine kills the benefit of fast loading.

Ogress first try! Finally feel like I got the hang of the gameplay.

The namiwathever katana is stronger.

On a pure statistical basis or taking the electric damage into account as well?
It looked to me that the other weapon ended up dealing much less (I was using it before the Raikiri).
That electric damage was huge and a great advantage as it adds up to every hit.

Where did you get these?
Either from other dead players that you can summon or by beating the mission with the single strong guy (the Raikiri is the reward for that mission).

I was coming here to complain about this but I see it's covered. It's not a good fight and the wombo combo is bullshit, there's no tell so you can avoid it. It's responsible for most of my deaths to that boss.
