No Man's Sky Spoiler Thread

Here's the thing, there's a specific group of fans the goes like this:
A) people who know what the game itself offers.
B) driven by the hype train
C) driven by crazy expectations

Now to the skeptics/what do you do crowd:
A) the game looks boring
B) i don't know what you guys see in this game
C) "over promised"

There's a constant bickering back and forth between the two factions and both are trying to validate their beliefs. it's the ultimate " I told you so" game if ever I seen one. There's no middle ground and that's due to the "vagueness" that some find in Sean Murray communication of the game.

Damn... you are right. Now -a- day is more the people that want the game to be bad (FFXV, leave it alone or this) that people who are willing to accept that a game is a product with it own limitations and enjoy the game. Like the Order: 1886.

Once again and I'm out of this hot mess. I'm hype about this game because this Thread: Why i am excited for No Man Sky. See you In FFXV threads, you won our bet and you change your Avatar.

still confused as to whats going on in here...

Does anyone really care?

.

Out to get your money, yes.

No, the have created a small scale model of a galaxy, with variations. Far from infintely expanding universe. This is not to take away from their achievement, but far from what this game was being hyped up to be.

1. Enjoy your tin foil hat.

They have no interest in making a good game which people will enjoy? Even after making the excellent Joe Danger 1/2 and being devs from studios like Criterion? This is such a painfully untrusting and negative attitude it's actually bumming me out. We're not talking about a pachinko machine here.

2. They never said 'infinitely expanding universe'. What are you on about? They said a universe of 18 quintillion planets, with loads of variation. That's it. No more, no less.

Word on the street is that once you get to the center, there's a portal to another random galaxy that prevents you from going back to the other galaxy, probably kind of like NG+. The leaker said he couldn't go back and revisit previous planets once he reached the center and that there was many galaxies.
Didnt sean say that somew time before. My idea of this game was basically galaxy hopping until you eventually hit the center of the universe. IIRC it was something like you loose your ship or materials when going to the next galaxy and you couldnt go back

LOL. Yeah, slight understatement. I'm still waiting on my 'buddies' above response about the video I just posted where Sean Murray says the goal is to get to the centre of the universe.

Get back to you about what? One time they say galaxy, another they say universe. Obviously, you just pick the one that sounds most positive to you and ignore anything else. You can see from your below quote that you're quite prepared to just dream up any old thing about what they may or may not have done, then just assume that it's true because it's something you like the sound of.

There was always confusing messaging about it being either a universe of a galaxy. He said that one of his staff changed it to galaxy but it's a universe. We then found out that originally it was based on a 32 bit integer but they moved to a 64 bit integer. I would say that originally it was going to be a galaxy but they decided to make it a universe which is why the messaging got confused.

Would you now? And you'd know how, exactly?

If I had to absolutely guess at what is going on in his head...

One of two things,

A. In your mind think of a plate.

This plate is a 2d version of a universe for simplification.

Now imagine spreading tiny white rocks all over the plate till it is filled.

These represent the galaxies that make up this universe.

Now, imagine taking tiny black rocks and placing them in a linear path from any given edge of the plate to the center.

I think this path represents the game. I think the developers may have chosen a slice of a universe from it's edge to the center to represent the game.

B. Instead of a linear path its just ranked.

Each portal at the center of each galaxy takes you to the next closest galaxy to the center regardless of distance.

This means that you could be in a galaxy on the "left" side of the universe, enter the portal at the middle of it and come out into a galaxy at the far opposite side of the universe just because it was the next closest to the center in a ranked fashion.

This way all of the galaxies would be connected in a point to point fashion and it would include all of the galaxies in the "universe" instead of just a slice of it.

Other than that though? Marketing.

Something I've been thinking though. What if there are portals that are very rare or hard to come by that would let you skip multiple galaxies at a time? Hmmm.

You know what strikes me as odd

How come only one copy of the game has been leaked

If the street date was broken, there should be more people posting impressions.

Like I said, there was always confusion. Funny how you are fine with using something that proved your point but choose to accept confusion when I prove he said centre of the universe ... The last bit is complete and utter speculation. It's not a crime you know.

Anyway. Enough about this. Let's move on and wait for the 9th together. It's going to be glorious.

There were some more people streaming iirc. There's been some other leaked footage, but no one has broken it down quite like this leaker has.

I don't understand why some people built either this giant bubble of hype or giant bubble of hate around this game. What we've seen with the leaks is exactly what Sean has been talking about the last 3 years. There are no surprises here. People seem to be getting hyped for the wrong reasons or hating it for the same.

I'm excited for this game because it's a hard sci-fi space exploration light-sim on consoles.

It's not the street date that was broken, it was someone selling a copy that was being sent out to retailers. So like, an employee stole a copy and sold it.

Apparently someone else bought a copy on ebay for 2000$.

Ahh. 'Random coding'. You really don't understand what you're talking about here. Procedural engines aren't random. They are designed. Designed to output countless variations on logical objects. The developers do have control over what's logical and what can or can't show up. They have control over each world's assets, colour possibilities, combinations of atmospheres, alien creature assets, animations, etc.

And it is 'really there'. The procedural engine makes a map, basically. It just draws the map based on formulae, and the formulae uses a seed as its root ingredients.

Yeah, so the "Seed" can me different for everybody.

AND when you send yours planet in the atlas, it get load randomly into other people games.

The 18 quintillion is just a number of possibility, not the universe totally mapped.

Just like when a game come out with heavy customization. And they say : 2million possibility.

I just "hate" to see people over-hype the game, as "There is a entire universe in this game". It's not lol. It's just random generated planet from seed. They "pop-out" as you get to them.

And that why the game is not really MP. That you "can't meet" because there is not a "global universe" where all the seed/coding planet are the same at the same spot.

I guess if there is some MP it will be at the center of universe, or some "game-event" MP oriented.

It could be a swirl, yeah. I see it as a necklace of beads, each connected in a row and each bead represents a galaxy. The reason I made that assumption is because Sean said it's like an infinitely long piece of graph paper with stars scattered along it. That's why I thought in a linear fashion but I like the idea of a swirl! It definitely gives us a theoretic centre of the universe.

I've been lurking this thread for some time now but I gotta post.
What the fuck is going on lol

Yeah, I've been lurking reading the thread as well with fascination. Actually I was going to hold off on purchasing it right away, but the leaked 26min vid actually made me want to buy it early. I didn't know enough about it with the whole Galaxy vs. Universe thing so it doesn't matter that much to me. A solid 30-40 hour game is not something I'm going to complain about these days, with the optional New Game+ by the sounds of it.

This whole clamoring for it to be more than what it is reminds me of past MMO releases, such as Vanguard. The hope of the ever elusive Day 1 patch that would bring in all the extra content and make all the promises and dreams come true. I've been down that road before. Don't get me wrong, it'd be cool, it's just better to be realistic.

All in all, if it's a solid little space adventure game going from planets to space and so on, that's good enough for me. Been wanting to do some of that since that leaked Battlefront 3 video (the one before DICE made it).

Possibly.

But why would an unfinished version be in the public? And why would it let you zip all the way to the end of the galaxy? Or those other secrets he reveals like that "Stranding" image?

Why would Sean even allow that in a demo version?

What makes sense is that game wasn't tested properly, so far as the economic value of certain game items are concerned.

yeah and twitch doesn't allow pre-release games anymore so it makes it difficult to stream from ps4. i guarantee there are more people playing out there

Reviewing most of that mod post thread, it basically comes down to:

"This doesn't match up with what we think the game is or have been told the game is so we think it is not the final copy."

e: there are some fishy things with the street date on the case and such, but I don't think that is enough to invalidate the leaker alone

Pretty much.

Hilarious that the mods over there actually posted that. Chances are this guy has the actual retail version and is playing the near final (non-patched) version of the game. They're just drumming up hope only to be crushed once again if the guy does have a retail copy.

Occam's Razor, folks. What's more likely? As soon as retail copies get shipped to retailers, the guy buys a fully packaged and printed "demo" disc from E3 or another event or does he buy an actual retail copy?

I mean I suppose it's somehow possible that the guy got some demo disc, but I'm trying to keep my expectations in check.
