So, let's all thank Daymeeuhn for beta testing the game for Hello Games.

Day 1 patch = Atlas Stones sell value NERFED to 10% of it's original price.

This thread make the best Carnivals of Stupid look logical in comparison.

I'm very septics of this for real. Because if that was true. AND we all start on a different planet, it would be just impossible to see a other "discover planet" ( if we all start from the same, it might be different)

I think, to make the game more fun/appealing, they "load up" a discovered planet within reach of where you are. So you have a chance to see it in the distance and read : Planet 1337 420Buzzkill

I never saw the devs said : The universe is the same for everyone.

They might said it ( i would like a source to see him talk about it ), but i'm not sure about it due to the procedural formula. It just could be marketing trick.

But i saw them only talking about the "seed" and randomness. Maybe the 1st galaxy Euclid is the same "seed" for everyone. But your next seed for the next galaxy might be randomly generated.

This is one of the reason i really need to see the future leak streamers. The devs just talked too much and show little. So people just have to believe or not the words of Sean lol.

This was an early article (nearly 4 years ago!) but still one of the better descriptions of what the game actually is, before the hype machine got out of control:

No Man's Sky is a sci-fi exploration roguelike in a consistent universe

"Everyone that plays will play one consistent universe. Normally with a roguelike, you'd play through and every time it's different. With this, everybody starts on a different part of the universe but it is the same consistent universe for all players," Murray said.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable shit storm when that leaker gets back online. NMS subreddit is going to tear itself apart attacking and defending him.

This absolutely reeks of the kind of crazy defense a desperate fanboy would concoct, but I'm not not willing to close the door on anything. This is why multiple sources of information are important.

If nothing else though, this shit sure is entertaining. All comedy procedurally generated. :p

Yeah this is some really strong denial. Stages of grief are real.

can somebody make a summary of what is going on?
lol

  • Leaker leaked stuff.
  • People didn't like the stuff about the game that the leaker leaked.
  • Mods accuse leaker of leaking demo version, not the retail version.
  • People come out claiming it is retail/final version.

lol
so there is no confirm if the release version or a leaked?

I wish I knew what the game was supposed to be so I knew why people were so upset.

The shit the leaker has said sounds like a perfectly good game with some easily fixable bugs to me...

Like what?

sorry, just joined in

Never dying in 40 hours of play. Reaching the center in less than 40 hours. Easy to find items making the entire economy moot with so much money you can buy all the fuel you need. Planets not really changing as you travel. 100% of planets have life. Tool seems to get worse as you level it. The level 1 version is the superior version. All ships have same storage. You'll have more storage in your suit than your ship.

That's the game that's been shown to us for years. Some people thought we were getting star trek for some reason.

No. There is no official confirmation either way and there likely won't be.

Most people are upset because of:
  • Time to reach "center" only took 35 hours, possible NG+ after?
  • Bugs
  • Some exploits? (unknown if intended or not)

That's the funny part but it's always nice to see the internet trip over itself. Over excited fans bringing up theories and why the game is perfect. The ones who didn't care about the game from job riding the hate train they were already on. The way he described it, it's what they announced and it's a good game.

Fix them bugs tho Hg

Edit: 35 hours is something to get upset about idk what gamers want anymore that's rpg status right there

Do we know how much variance there will be on the planets themselves? Like, say you find a planet with a cool rock pattern. Will that cool rock pattern be just repeated throughout the whole planet in different ways, or will there be different biomes besides oceans? Like at LEAST north and south poles where its colder? Maybe if you land on a forest planet, there will be a dry area thats a desert somewhere?

I think the primary point of contention is that the leaker claimed to have reached the goal of the game in 35 hours.

Theres no great secret, that makes the game interesting.

The game is essentially what youve seen at e3 etc for all your hours.

This thread is worth reading through.

No TL;DR does this thread justice.

Fairly sure they said one biome per planet. Kind of harms the exploration imo as there's not much point leaving the area near where you land. It'll be variations of the same thing. Oh well, i'm sure i'll enjoy it.

35 hours is a long fucking time. If that's the 'goal' of the game, it shouldn't take any longer than that. Isn't there going to be nearly limitless content to explore outside of that goal? If so, what's the problem?

Thats extremely lame. So you basically have already seen what the planet has to offer aesthetically if you land on one and explore for 30 minutes. That defeats the purpose of actually exploring planets to me. Ugh.

Lol, right?

The funny thing is the spacey walking simulator some people were constructing in their own heads is just the sort of game that was derided by the 'what do you do?' crowd.

When it turns out to be an actually completable game with clear objectives that can be finished (NG+ notwithstanding) in a reasonable amount of time and, according to someone who's played it, actually fun, they fall apart.

Sure it's buggy, that'll be fixed. It seems to be the game I was expecting - part of me is baffled by the reaction, part me isn't.

Thx, still kind of septic a bit lol, if it's true, people will be about to gather easly with crow-sourcing near the center ( like people will make spots for meet-up ).

IF meet-up anywhere is possible.

Yea we don't want players shitting up the planets and wiping up everything in big numbers, huh?

Question for the guy who sold it to the other guy:

Was your copy a review copy (ie, early copy for IGN, GameSpot, etc... To have reviews ready on 8/9) or a full retail copy you snagged from a store and jotted down the UPC to "buy it" on Day 1 for $60?

I would gladly play a space game with a massive world and a 35 hour main quest if it is fun.
This is why I never get on the pre release hype train for a game anymore. Better let the game stand on its own when it comes out than compare to the overblown prerelease promises of some inept spokesman.
