Any word on Saturn-like planets? I haven't seen any on the streams, has the leaker said anything? I really want to see one!
I sort of hoped the upgrade path would have been so vast that you wouldn't usually be maxed out by the "end" of the first galaxy
There are no gas giants in the game; only planets with a solid surface to land on.
Or do you mean planets with rings?

Rings are supposed to exist, or were anyway. Though it's completely plausible that sheer odds were against him seeing any.

This game works for me when I put it into the same bracket as "experiences" like Journey or Flower.
Where its more about enjoying the moment then doing a quest/killing something.
The only problem is the length then, these kind of games are better when done in 5h or so.
But hey, getting this at a steam sale and enjoying 5/6 hours of exploring might be what I want from this.

He only landed on 40 planets in one galaxy, there's a chance they keep some stuff for people playing beyond Euclid. Or if there's any thing with, say, a 1/100 chance of finding, then he just didn't see it.
To be honest there was only a 1/100 chance of finding complex life, apparently. Maybe that's why they tweaked it.

just for clarify, even if he reached the center of galaxy, he doesn't explored All planets in that galaxy. Even closely.
So you do believe the one and only person who played the game has seen everything?
I'm perfectly happy to treat this as an experience and that was the way I approached it. As I noted in the other thread, I could see myself getting really aggravated by that inventory management in the long run.
the most thoroughly disappointing thing shown so far is that despite having entire planets, you have zero reason to wander more than about 30 seconds away from your landing site. and the fact that the reasoning for there not being base building was basically that they wanted to keep you moving from planet to planet now sounds more like a smokescreen for "you wouldn't want to anyway."
the decision to not have multiple biomes per planet is baffling.
'Only 30 hours? ONLY frigin' 30 hours?'
Are you lot for real?
So 30 hours for a game is now considered short. Got it.
It would be pretty lame if a universe doesn't have a couple of those, don't you think?
What i learned from watching Dark Souls pre-release /leak streams is that those players are about as close to the truth as a trump campaign.
I'm curious, which games do you think are worth $60

It's a sandbox in the purest form. Its a make your own fun kind of game. I know a lot of people can't handle that kind of freedom. They need strict goals and being controlled. If that's you, well then this game isn't made for you, and that's okay. Not every game is made for everyone.
NMS is an open-ended sandbox hard sci-fi space exploration light-sim. Its never been claimed to be anything else.
How? What Hello Games showed is exactly what the game is. Any exaggerated hype is from people getting swept up in Sean's boundless enthusiasm for his magnum opus without being rational.
Can you look around in the cockpit like in Elite? Sometimes I just want to fly by planets, look around and enjoy the view.
"You haven't seen all the planets in the galaxy" is the worst excuse ever. You can't live enough to do that.
Did HG ever show a gameplay demo that showcased the average player experience? At best we got some b-roll some time ago. These little one-minute trailers we recently got at best obfuscated what the game was about. While I agree that people let their hype get the best of them, I also believe HG let that happen. WHAT DO YOU DO became kind of a meme with this game, but for the longest time it was a legitimate question. And some people are just now finding out what is it that you do in these leaked videos.
Who is even saying that? What we know is that the number of planets seen by actual players at this time is incredibly small. The initial leaker saw maybe 40, and who knows about this other guy. That's a vanishingly small number in terms of making any pronouncements about the game as a whole (like suggesting if he hasn't seen something, maybe HG lied).
It's not baffling given the planet hopping game mechanic you just outlined. Which you may not like, but that's how it was designed from the start. For quick drop downs on planets and then pushing on.
I haven't seen any players complain about this, so maybe it's something that feels better first hand. I think the point is it's not quite the same game some people think it is.
How much time do you think you'll spend on a planet and how many planets do you think you'll explore? 100? 200? 1000? 10000?

it's more that it's "look how huge these planets are" when in reality it's just the same "theme" on a planet, no matter where you are. I guess if people want to go look at funny shaped rocks for a few hours, then by all means. but it looks to me that once you land you can pretty much scan what needs to be scanned and mine what needs to be mined all within eyeshot of your spaceship.
and frankly your interaction with pre-generated stuff like crashed ships just boils down to "press X for blueprint," you can do that anywhere.
"What do you do" was a legitimate question but after years of seeing variations on the same demo it was clear that what you did was walk around planets and look at procedurally generated content. People deluded themselves into thinking there was more to it based on no video evidence.

Personally, I have every intention of taking my time with the game. I expect some planets will be places I don't want to stay long, while others will spark my imagination and I know I'll want to see more. At least in the footage I've seen so far, there's been several planets I'd have wanted to stay longer on and explore more of.
Hard to say and I doubt I'll keep count. But I do think that it is a game that I will return to time and time again in order to get my space exploration fix. Because there is nothing else out there that will let me do it in the way this will and with the same incredible atmosphere.
I haven't watched anything the leaker released, but the commentaries I read here doesn't help to aliviate my "fear" about the game.
The premise is very good, but by what I've seen from the official trailers and gameplay impressions, it felt kind of the same thing all the time, without the diversity I'd expect it to have, what would lead to maybe infinity hours of gameplay, but a very limited time of interesting worlds to explore and things to do.
Again, I haven't seen it and I'll for sure play it myself before reaching definitive conclusions. But I wonder if it could be more interesting if it had a limited number of partially handcrafted planets and creatures.
We will see!![]()

I feel like you just described most games. "Press X to jump over the gap!"
well to be somewhat fair to those people, there was certainly enough talk by Sean about his Magnum Opus that hinted there was more depth there that doesn't seem to actually exist. the gameplay we saw was accurate. the statements around it, not so much.
Interacting with the objects might not provide any depth--but since when has the interaction with an object proved to be interesting? It's in the locating of those objects and the exploration to get to them that's infinitely more interesting, at least to me. I didn't give a shit about the crappy platforming or mediocre combat when I was trying to get something in The Witcher 3; It was figuring out where it was in the first place.asinine, reductive interpretation. People are claiming those things add depth. if that's "depth," then I'm the queen.
I asked you personally, because you know already that you're going to enjoy exploring, how many planets do you realistically think you can explore in this game? Roughly. 100? 1000? 10000?
eople still don't get it? We are the beast. That's why each beast start in another planet. We are space flying beasts. That are fucking up the universe.
Just to gauge interest how much would you guys pay to own No Mans Sky 2-3 weeks prior release with your current circumstances...
Me, probably £70-£100

Haha oh man, i cant wait until the first company does a release like this, with the game starting at say 100 and slowly dropping down in price to the normal release price over the course of 2-4 weeks.
