No one playing Phoenix Wright 3?

After I finished Phoenix Wright 3 when it was first released for GBA years ago, I thought to myself damn, Capcom better make an English version so the rest of the world can enjoy this fucking awesome game and series...and now that it is out and after reading all the positive posts in this great thread, it just put a big smile on my face and made me want to rebuy all three games for the NDS and play them all over again!!! :D :D :D It is just too bad that you can never regain that feeling from your first playthru since you already know the whole story
 
I dont mean to come in and hate. But for some reason, I feel I've really grown tired of the formula. The characters are recycled and the jokes aren't so funny this time around for some reason.


I had so much fun with the original, I don't get it...
 
Holy crap at Case 2! I thought
I was DONE after getting DeLite off for the robbery and he ends up being arrested for murder?!
This case is crazy!

I'm at that point now. Crazy stuff.

After the first case I couldn't believe what a douchebag Phoenix was. In the first case of the first game I kind of got the feeling there could have been something between Mia and Phoenix, but I doubt she's be interested after that show. I liked how she even stated several times how not special Phoenix is. :lol

I guess the Character Development, Storytelling, and the Courtroom "battles" are not that important.

Mia is definitely overused, that is one aspect of the series I really didn't like.

Actually,
i did like the bit when Mia flirted with the old pervert back in case 3
but beyond that, Mia appearing everytime shit gets tough, is getting old really fast.

I don't know what you are talking about, it got old and overused by the 2nd game.

The third game would have been so much better without it.

When you meet Victor Kudo (perverted old man with the red nose), you get Maya to come in waitress suit and she turns into Mia. Then she flirts with the old man to extract answers.
 
Finished yesterday the 2nd case. I'm now for the first time in court in the 3rd case.

Is it just me or is the argument of the defense not very convincing? So you prove that Atmey wasn't at Lord Tailor. And it's likely (not decisive proven) that he blackmailed Ron. I mean, we don't know for sure what identity it was (it could be everything, and just because he had a red diamond). It's also likely that he had to be in the room where the murder was commited. I don't know. Somehow I think these points are very thin. Furthermore, there isn't decisive evidence that Atmey killed him. You need three things for a guilty verdict: a motive, an opportunity to have killed the victim and decisive evidence. The motive and decisive evidence is doubtful in my opinion.

It's still an awesome game - the characters are amazing, the humor is still great and the cases are very deep. I love it!

Well once you managed to get him to break down and confess in court there really isn't much else is there?

Mia helps Phoenix in court exactly once this game, 2nd case, and only to quote some legal technicalities that the player wouldn't have known about otherwise, she also sets up the outcome of Ron's story by doing this, which is awesome enough that you can overlook that. She doesn't show up in court at all on case 3,
Last case ->
and leaves Phoenix to solve case 5 by himself as sort of a final test. They converse in the lobby, but that's it.

I was pointing out how it was overused in the 2nd game.

In the third game her appearances weren't as annoying and as absurd. Of course, odds are that the Japanese fans complained about it in the 2nd game, and this problem was remedied in the 3rd one.

I don't remember Case 3 of JFA at all (I never really understood that crime at all, but that's beside the point,) she didn't appear at all in Case 1, and Cases 2 and 4 of that game had alot to do with Maya, so I saw Mia's involvement more as she was concerned about her sister than just deus ex machina.

It was just as aspect that was overused, Phoenix was supposed to be the guy succeeding Mia after the 2nd case in the first game. Instead you have her holding onto his hand in the second game, with her having more of a better role in the third game.

For a dead person, she had way more airtime that she deserved.

I actually agree. I found the first one absolutely incredible and it quickly found its way into my top 10 games of all time. When I got my hands on the second one I was disappointed; It didn't seem to hold the magic that the first one had.

I just finished up case two on GS3 and I'm not impressed so far. The first case was decent but Phoenix Wright was annoying as hell as a character. The second case was far too long and unenjoyable, the highlight being when it was finally over. I hope case 3 gets better.

With GS1 being the first time I'd experienced the gameplay mechanics, I overlooked its flaws and rigid nature. Now that I'm up to my third game I can see the flaws glaring right at me. Let me give you an example of how rigid this game can be:

Luke Atmey is giving his testimony about being Mask DeMasque and that the security photograph is proof that he was there stealing the urn. I know that to progress I need to find a contradiction in the photo, and after a quick look I realise that I can do so by pointing out the paint behind him. I raise an objection and present the pink paint, to which I am penalised for objecting with something that "has absolutely nothing to do with the case". It turns out I need to keep pressing Luke Atmey at certain points in his testimony until he finally asks me what I find funny about the picture (the pink paint!)

It's rigidness like that that really makes the experience infuriating. I have solved a part of the case or I have found a contradiction but the game will only accept one single specific way of it being presented. All others are "wrong".

What I basically want is a more flexible mechanic when it comes to raising an objection. If I present adequate contradicting evidence during a cross examination, it shouldn't matter if I haven't been asked to present it. I hate feeling like I'm ahead of the game and just mindlessly pressing on statements until the game finally allows me to do what I should have been able to 10 minutes ago.

One could say that my avatar is a much bigger spoiler, especially if you know what the avatar means.

True, but before that it isn't very convincing. The evidence is just too thin in my opinion. Although we all know he did it.

You mention that but not the part where
you have to prove what's wrong with the letter about getting a red diamond, but you can't just mention the bleedlingly obvious red diamond on his finger, instead having to present the newspaper clipping about how Mesk Demasque stole a blue diamond, and the one the letter was meant for was Luke Atmey?
 
The franchise has so many holes, so I learned just to ignore them and experience it for what it is.

Case 5
How did Maya know to channel Dahlia Hawthorne. Why did Godot have Iris help when he didn't know the connection between Dahlia and Iris. Why did Pearls never acknowledge her big sister after the case was done, when she was sitting in the audience having her two siblings revealed before her eyes. Why did the Elise's body swing like a pendulum when reaching the other side when physics tells us that it would lose momentum as it hits the other side.

To your first question, that's because Mia wrote her to do that on a note. This was explained in the game. What happened to the note, however, is unheard of.

Okay, how did Mia know of the complicated plan that Morgan Fey used to kill Maya. As Dahlia's testimony showed, in the Phoenix Wright world, when a person is summoned they lose memories between the time they stopped being summoned to when they get re summoned. That means that Mia had no way of knowing the complicated plan, especially because the two people Godot contacted was Iris and Mystic Misty.

Well, Maya wrote a note to Mia as well... But Maya didn't know Dahlias name, and Mia couldn't have known of the plan, as you said, so it pretty much is a plothole.

Also, I wonder about this thing:

Case 5.
The ladder with blood on top of it at the first "crime scene", where the Shishischito was.

Why didn't anyone look at that? :lol

Exactly, it is a plot hole, but I accept it as face value because once you start talking about plot holes and nitpicking, then no game will be fun.

Every single game has their share of plot holes, it tends to stick out more in story based games like Phoenix Wright and JRPG's like Final Fantasy.

playing as Edgeworth was effing awesome? For once, it was nice to feel in control of how things went, instead of whining and being constantly clueless and surprised like Phoenix always does.

Give me "Miles Edgeworth: Ace Prosecutor" next, plz.

Pretty much.

The Phoenix Wright game is in its own universe, if you can't accept that in the Phoenix Wright universe you have; Spirit Mediums, a Byzantine power struggle at an old family, prosecutors that whips everyone, a prosecutor that throws coffee at the defense, needlessly complicated ways to murder people, and a lawyer that could be at the crime scene and take evidence illegally, then you really need to play a different game.

Real Law isn't like Phoenix Wright, but as a game that is based off the Japanese court system with strange scenarios, it is the best of the best.

I agree

Playing as Edgeworth was a nice change of pace because even when did didn't know what was going on, he had an air about him that made him in control. Even when he objected and presented the wrong evidence he would say something uber cool that Phoenix could never dream of. I know we always have an underdog spirit, which is why Phoenix is so lovable, but damn it was great playing as someone who wasn't an underdog who knew exactly what to do

AAAARGH! CASE FOUR ANGER!

I'm trying to prove the kidnapping was fake, and from the dropping-from-the-bridge footage that's shown again and again through that part of the game it's clear that Dahlia falls from the side of the bridge. So I try presenting the photograph showing that you couldn't fall from the side of the bridge at the relevant points in the testimony, then some of the irrelevant points in the testimony. Fail. Fail. Fail. And then, by resort to a FAQ I discover I'm supposed to attempt to disprove something that the testimony as depicted in the pictures never actually claims - that she was pushed off the broken end of the bridge. And of course, the very next thing it wants me to do is present the fricking evidence I've just been trying to.

Sometimes I hate these games - and there have been more irritating moments like this for me in this than the earlier games.
 
just FYI for anyone having trouble with points of testimony or breaking psyche locks or anything like that in the game... Hit start and save before you object if you're not sure. when you save like that you can restart from that save over and over again. It's not a temp save that gets erased. It's the same way in the other PW games.

The only points you can't save at are specifically when you're called on to show evidence in court, and anytime you're trying to unlock someone's secret in investigation.

I'm one of the people who actually likes the investigation part of the games... it seems like most people on GAF hate it, but I like it as much as I like the court battles, because in the better cases it's where you get evidence that gives you an idea how stuff plays out, but doesn't give it away exactly. Then again, since I kind of view this game as a crazy point and click adventure more than anything else, I also like getting evidence because I wonder how I'm going to use that kind of wacky stuff in court/psyche locks.

I kind of like it, but there are an awful lot of cases where events or characters are triggered by some completely unrelated event elsewhere. That's just frustrating.
 
Awesome. I just finished this game... It's really great. Lot's of courtroom action, not so dull investigating parts, more flexibility for presenting evidence, and over all else, great story and characters. Waaay better than 2nd part... I really had a blast playing this. Maybe it's even better than the 1st one.
My only complain is that spirit channeling shit, but everything else is so great that I don't really care.
Don't miss this one guys.

Yeah, I hate that, and I hate when they don't word certain things properly and there's no link made between the evidence and the testimony, or you present the right piece of evidence on a similar statement and the game doesn't accept it.
 
I finished the third case today, and one, um, joke caught my eye. Now I don't know was this intentional or do I just have a sick mind.

Anyway, spoiler from the third case:

When Gumshoe gave you the lunch box to give to Maggey, Maya said something like "That's a lot of weenies. Even a girl with my mouth can't down that much".

Needless to say I felt a bit dirty after that one.
 
My favorite part of case 3 is the part when
Maya says "This is Madness"
and
Phoenix says "No Maya...This is SPARDA"
HAHAHAHAHA:lol :lol
 
Holy crap, case five is starting out awesome. I can't believe the lineup on the first day of the trial.

Edgeworth vs Von Karma? I love this game.

Yeah, I don't really follow it logically. I just like it because of the weird items you usually get and somehow have to use to break a psyche lock or someone's testimony.
 
Put me in with Fire: I actually like the investigations more in PW than court battles. Court seems (keep in mind I've only played PW1 and PW2 so far) too arbitrary on where/when you can use evidence that you KNOW is the key. Whereas at least with investigation, you can keep harassing the person and not get penalised for it, where in court battle you'll get your ass handed to you for using the RIGHT evidence on the WRONG "testimony". Biggest flaw of the PW games by far.

I might have missed a piece of dialogue, but when Iris and Dahlia (while being channelled by Maya) switched places in the Inner Temple, how did that happen? Did Iris go along willingly or was there a struggle? I totally missed the explanation for that.

Just got hit this morning by the flip side of that - where you present evidence that is rejected even though it's making the same point as the 'right' evidence.

In my case it was in chapter five, where
I was trying to prove the significance of the crystal sphere. Obviously I knew it had to have been dropped before the snow stopped, which was therefore before the witness saw the murder, so I tried to present the weather report containing the relevant times as evidence. It took a little trial and error before I discovered you have to present the sphere itself...

Willingly. Iris was sacrificing herself this time to make up for her 'betrayal' at the Terry Fawles incident.
