No Split Screen in Titanfall

I mean.

I haven't wanted to play split screen since....Halo 2? I'm not sure I see the problem here beyond some feigned outrage. Battlefield 4 didn't have splitscreen. KillzoneSF didn't have splitscreen. AFAIK, only CoD and Halo have maintained the splitscreen option. I guess this thread is 400 posts because of a loud minority, highlighted by people who don't have a One or 360 (like DeadlyVirus).

Most of the people complaining probably don't own an XBOX one and never plan to get one to begin with.

Bravo good sir, you have seen through the ruse! This whole time wanting to play splitscreen is because I hate the XBO and therefore Titanfall!

You know, it's really annoying when you care about something and other people call it "feigned outrage", especially when the examples you use to prove your point are precisely the two most successful online franchises currently in existence.

It feels really bad to us people that actually do care about this.

I'm not going to lie - I am disappointed that there is no split screen. Even though split screen has become a thing of the past, I really don't believe there will never be any use for it. In fact, Gears of War was one of my favorite multiplayer games and I used split screen A LOT for that game. The way I see it, launch games for systems SHOULD have split screen more than systems later in the generation just because it's a way to show your friends how awesome the game (and by extension the system) is when you can both play at the same time and on the same system. I really think split screen could be a good marketing tool of sorts for people who don't have the system but would have a chance to try out the game with their friends.

With that said, I trust Respawn's decisions with this game and I'm really excited for it. I do think it'll be something special.

"It doesn't matter to me; so why the fuck are others upset by it?"

The worst argument ever.

I think expecting anything more than 8-10 maps is going to be wishful thinking. I really hope I'm wrong though.

8-10 maps for $60 with more maps coming with DLC to further fragment the playerbase would be pretty shitty to be honest. At that price, they should include the additional DLC maps for free like Killzone did. Then maybe add new game modes with paid DLC. That way the playerbase of who has maps and who does not have maps isn't splintered.

That'd be nice but this is MS and EA we're talking about here.

Totally. It's not like there could be Xbox fans that are/were into Halo (which is lauded for its splitscreen options) looking forward to this game at all being disappointed that a feature they love in the Halo games is not included. Especially the Halo fans that were disappointed in the multiplayer experience Halo 4 provided and were looking forward to another FPS to take its place.

Does a game have to drop in price because of lack of features when the time and resources that could have went into features actually went into online multiplayer?

I don't understand the logic behind a drop in price because one isn't getting the standard singleplayer campaign or because 6v6.

Implementation doesn't magically make a game better.

They make split screen games for pc?
Even if they didn't, I don't see what point you'd be trying to make here. Illuminate us.

It's a free market, they can charge whatever they want. I'm not paying $60 for an online only, competitive MP game though.

Played the Alpha totally worth every penny. I never got bored with the 2 levels and 2 modes they let us play.Nothing like it is out on any system.

Assuming someone has the resources to handle split screen mode (PC), what are the possible technical difficulties that could keep Respawn from implementing split screen mode?

In other words, how hard it is to add split screen to some game?

Its certainly not a case of "Just split the screen and off we go!" It has to be programmed to work well. If it is not in the game from the start, don't expect Respawn to just press a few buttons and it works.

I posted early but the vertical nature of the combat could be one reason why they have not added a split-screen option. It could be that the modified Source does not really work well with split or that they were so intent on making a MP mixed with SP elements into their game, they did not see a new for split-screen.

I am not sure we will ever find out but I can see a good few are upset about not having it but there will always ben games that will support them...just not this one,

But that is what plenty of people who have been buying CoD are doing. They just buy it for the MP or Zombies. Some don't even touch the campaign and the developers caught wind of it an have scrapped offline splitscreen in Ghosts. BF3 and BF4 are other games that have SP, though poorly done and not needed, but people play the game for MP.

Of course, you're speaking for yourself, but still, that thought is pretty much universal with many in this thread and others who are upset at xyz.

Honestly, how hard would it be to implement it? I get it, split screen is dead to most, but there are some people out there who would like to use it.

Kinda sucks that I can't go over to a friend's house and play Titanfall with them.

Yea well when they're ruining my fun by letting the other team get Swarms and Dogs everywhere, it becomes a bit of a problem.

That's why the Killstreak system is BS. Build classes to better counter those streaks and get over it. Or play an arena shooter.

I hope that split screen gaming will stay alive until we move to VR. Unless someone wants to share an OR headset with me?

Hold on to that feeling. That's what it's like for people who want a game like Titanfall, when they read stuff like: "no split screen?", "just 6v6?", "multiplayer only?" and "full priced?".

I don't think split screen is quite the same thing - split screen can enhance the multiplayer experience for some people - and, as TitanFall is a multiplayer game, then it is within their rights to feel disappointed when it's not a feature.

With that said, complaining about lack of singleplayer or 6v6 is silly as one is something that TitanFall is not (a singleplayer game) and the other is something that was probably optimized by Respawn to ensure the best possible experience (6v6).

I am so upset due to this news..I had planned so many things around the split-screen mode. I hate to break this news to my buddies. DAMMIT!!!

Fair enough, but then it's still kind of weird to expect the game to come at a discount because of it.

Well, I don't expect that! I'm just disappointed, but it's not a pre-order cancelled kind of thing for me! =P

Probably has something to do with the game being more fun to play to most people than everything else that was playable at the show.

The reviews will show if the awards were deserved or not.

I'd change that last statement to [unpaid player] reviews.

Here's IGN's review for Warhawk: http://www.ign.com/articles/2007/12/31/warhawk-review

How do you know when you've got something special on your hands? It could be what happens when you take the power of a new console to make a spiritual successor to an earlier title, using the hardware to accomplish things that weren't possible years before. Maybe it becomes apparent when you can completely change the primary focus of a title and discover that the redesign is much stronger than the original concept. Or perhaps it's the new concept that generates and sustains momentum for your product by itself. In the case of Warhawk, all of the above definitely apply.

You could basically change one word in that paragraph and it fits 100% with all the hype the media is trying to generate about Titanfall. Warhawk also launched at $40, had split screen multiplayer and 32 player max. Even "player" impressions are becoming less relevant. There seems to be a strong correlation between the tubers that signed up for the Microsoft payola scheme and those that have also been screaming Titanfall at the top of their lungs. It's very frustrating since it makes me feel a bit like a "hater" simply expecting most major hype to be manufactured but it's looking more and more like that is, as usual, the case with Titanfall. Fun bare bones shooter - yip. Some amazing revolution blah blah genre redefining blah blah blah media buzzword buzzword buzzword blah blah - no.

Do you think counter strike go should be 60$? It offers a nearly endless amounts of custom maps and mods. So far titanfall has none of those and is asking an absurd amount while providing very little. But this is how I base off any multiplayer only game. Do i get the same or more value as counter strike go and thats how I decide my purchases.

I happily bought Battlefield 2 for full price back then. I'm not really sure how asking for a full price is absurd.
