No Wii U version planned for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Not that it shouldn't have been obvious, but some people still assume that it's a given.

This is not a surprise and makes total sense. Not saying it's good, but there's no reason to be surprised outside of the fact that Capcom released the previous one before realizing the Wii U's current fizzle.

Called it. Unlike Tri this is a game designed for 3DS from the get-go. It seemed logical they wouldn't port it because it didn't follow the same pattern as MHTri

Welp, the people I usually play with on 3U don't plan on hopping to the 3DS anytime soon so I guess that's that. I personally am still looking forward to 4U.

So sad. Probably won't end up playing this even though I put 400 hours into MH3U. I think this is a mistake on Capcom's part, and I am certain MH3U on Wii U did well enough to warrant the limited resources it would take to port this game to Wii U.

I'm kinda torn on what I think.

I'm a big portable gamer, so my time with import MH4 has been great (as well as all of the entries on the PSP, and 3U on 3DS).

That being said, I bought a Wii U for HD + online MonHun. I even bought a Wii U for my brother to play online Monster Hunter with me.

I do find the 3DS game serviceable - more than, even. But nothing really beats playing MH3U on the Wii U with "HD" graphics, even if it is a port.

At least we have a definite answer, so we don't have to keep wondering if this may happen.

It's a shame, while I prefer playing on 3DS, having the Wii U version was really neat. Especially because it made hunting with friends who didn't own a 3ds/copy of the game easier.

I'll still play the shit out of it on 3DS but it is a bit disappointing. I got the majority of my mileage from 3U on Wii U.

meh. I'm still holding out hope after this has been released in Japan for a few months, they will announce a HD version/dual release for the west for 4U similar to what went down with 3u. Tri did a million in the west on Wii, 3U was an expansion of that and still did well, they have to know there's a market on consoles for this in the west.... I mean it's a totally new game, much more possibility for success than 3u... right?

They ported the previous 3DS MonHun to WiiU though.

If they don't port 4 then its because of WiiU's poor sales probably.

CAPCOM said themselves the Wii U version of MH3U was a “smash hit” with something like ~500,000 units sold in 4 months in their 2013 fiscal release.

Let's not forget:

3U for Wii U was released - I'm assuming - primarily because the 3DS lacked online play.

What's the incentive or value piece that Capcom can market a 4U on Wii U? I'm sure everyone here (including myself) would all hold "1080p" as a selling point but that's really something only a small percentage of potential buyers could really care about.

I'd venture to guess if you're a Wii U owner, you already own a 3DS. So, again, looking from a Capcom perspective of "how do we move Wii U units" - what's are the selling points?

Additionally - I'm wondering how online play would work between someone on Wii U versus someone on 3DS. 3DS doesn't have voice chat, while 3U on Wii U has.

So in just doing some thinking, I'm almost with Capcom here as to why they wouldn't release a 4U on Wii U. But of course, me being a huge Monster Hunter fan, would totally love a release on it.

I think you listed a selling point for a Wii U version right there. Also, a lot of Western gamers just don't want to game on handhelds. I have plenty of friends who love to play consoles, but would never touch a 3DS if they could avoid it.

Good controls. I have a 2ds. I guess fuck me in regards to playing MH4U because I can't use a frankenstick? Or should I get a 3ds purely for it?
