North American Nintendo Switch Lineup

I'm getting Zelda, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and...I think that's all.

Really poor lineup. I was ready to give them a lot of money, too. Hopefully the Treehouse stream tomorrow announces a few more.

Nintendo saved a lot for E3. Retro's new game, Rabbids + Mario, Pikmin 4, rumored Metroid game... Could be one of their best E3's ever.

Don't do this to yourself. You are just setting yourself up for more disappointment. Don't put faith in nintendo to deliver a bunch of games when they have given you no reason to believe in them. Every E3 is going to be the one where they announce all these games that everyone is expecting and it never happens.

I am stunned by everything switch related. I bought a fuckin' Wii U at launch and even I'm not touching this.

Are Bomberman and Puyo tetris expected to be full priced games? They both kind of attract my attention outside of Zelda but if we're talking $60 a piece for either of them... I dunno.

Puyo's $40. It'll also be available on PS4, where you'll stand a chance of finding other people playing it online.

Zelda is better than the whole WiiU lauch lineup

With Zelda?

Wii U didn't have much for me, this has Zelda. And a great looking Zelda to boot.

Yes I'm all over it too but I can play it on the Wii U since it seems to be releasing the same day. Twilight Princess was delayed a bit on the GC if I recall correctly.

Ninty launches always had at least 3 to 4 games that I wanted to play (I skipped the n64). A couple of 1st party and some 3rd party titles in the mix. I can hold off until summer since I have some of the games on other platforms. So for me this lineup is lukewarm.

E3 2014 was great for Nintendo.

If the Switch is $200 by Christmas with a game, it's because Nintendo has already given up. There's no way they'd undercut the price so substantially that quickly. I could see a 1 2 Switch pack-in and $50 dollars off during Black Friday, but $200 is not happening.

This brand new system is replacing a system that costs... $300. This price point is probably why we haven't seen a price cut on the Wii U or any really promotions in the past year. Flooding the market with cheap Wii U's would have undermined the Switch -- and instead it's replacing it at the same price point but with a lot more value.

Now the accessory pricing on the other hand....

How does the Switch have more value than a Wii U? What?

I've been behind on buying/importing some of the games I've been wanting, so I'm interested in:

- The Legend of Zelda: BotW
- Disgaea 5 Complete
- Puyo Puyo Tetris
- I Am Setsuna

Probably in that order. Not stellar, but that's pretty good for me.

edit; that's in terms of launch titles, I'm also interested in games coming out later on (mario, splatoon, smt, etc.).

What did people honestly expect? Why would third party developers jump onboard a console replacing a dismal failure. They will wait and see.

I don't understand why they aren't flooding the system with Wii U ports at launch. They would have had enough time to prepare and port their library of good games, that many people haven't played yet:

  • Super Mario 3D World
  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Smash Bros
  • Super Mario Maker
  • Wind Waker and Twilight Princess
  • Splatoon 1 (maybe too much of a competitor to Splatoon 2)
  • Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade (with support from these third parties)
  • ...
They really missed an opportunity here.

Bayo 1/2 is the only game out of that bunch that I would add. It's a very different experience from everything else in the lineup, doesn't step on Zelda's toes, sets a precedent for 3rd party action games, doesn't oversaturate an IP that's being released within the first year, etc

But if Mario Kart, Smash, Skyrim, and others are ports how are they not in the launch window? That is just mind-bottling. You can't build a holiday lineup around Wii U and 360 ports + Mario.

Pokemon had better be this year.

Edit: GCN launched with Rogue Leader, the best looking console game of 2001, a competent no-nonsense port of Madden 2002, and a competent no-nonsense port of THPS3, which is one of the greatest games of all time. The third party situation would only be comparable if FIFA and Skyrim were launch titles.

If this is the launch line-up it's really bad. Guess Nintendo are putting all eggs in the Zelda basket. Which actually could be enough.

I think they expected Nintendo to have at least one more game ready, considering how much they've already cut back developing for the Wii U & 3DS ... I mean Mario Kart is basically an enhanced port, and that's not ready?

Preorder ed system from best buy, but I'm still on the fence honestly. I wasn't disappointed when we found out about all the switch ports, but the fact that none of them are making launch is ridiculous. Splatoon missing launch is a wasted opportunity for them, mario kart I heard was April and that's likely to help the drought leading up to e3 from seeming as bad as it's looking to be

If impressions are showing the wii version of zelda only being slightly worse then the switch version I may decide to cancel my switch preorder and wait for a price drop or holiday deal

I know we should know better but dawn this is very reminiscent of past launches

Outside of a few console releases, ever since I've been gaming (about 36 years), pretty much every console/handheld launch line up I've experienced has been lack luster. The only consoles (mainstream) I cannot speak for through experience is the Saturn and the Xbox One. With that said, I am not surprised as the launch line up. As a matter of fact, I was expecting a rather by the book launch line up. A big title or two, and a bunch of filler that will capture the interest of the smallest of niches.

As for the software issues going forward with the switch, I think it's pretty much impossible to have a repeat of the Wii U as far as software goes (or lack thereof). Unifying software teams will almost be like taking the handheld and console libraries of the past and combine them (in their respective generations of course). If all of the stuff going around about how Nintendo is streamlining/unifying their teams...it would be easy to conclude that their software output would at least match that of the 3DS, maybe a little more as their console developers are under one roof as well. So IMO, software will not be the issue long term.

Gamers are just more about games, they are about utility and fuctionality. If you ask me, people are more about the latter than the former nowadays when it comes to purchasing a video game console. It's also my opinion that this is what Nintendo really needs to really fix. People aren't satisfied with just a gaming experience, they want a media box that plays the popular mediums...while maintaining a high level of power all in a 200-300 dollar price tag. It sounds like milking blood from a turnip...pretty much impossible. But that's where the industry is at this point, and Nintendo seemingly still doesn't quite get it.

I think people here are overreacting in this thread. Every console released has had issues from software, to hardware, and a combination of both. It's up to the company to see if they have what it takes to react appropriately. To see if Nintendo truly learned from the Wii U or not...if the Switch does indeed flop out of the gate, how will they react this time? We know how they reacted with the Wii U....not at all.

You are referencing a nascent industry that had no idea what it was doing. This is 20-30+ years and 100's of billions of dollars later. Even then, every major console has had at least 1 or 2 titles to fall back on. In NA, the PS1, PS2, and Saturn are usually considered the worst of the bunch, but each still managed to have a couple standout favorites. If you remove Zelda from this line up (which again, is not really a Switch game), there doesn't appear to be a single stand out title. Not one, zero. This is completely unprecedented.

So basically everything I thought the switch would be. Nintendo games and shitty third party crap. It's amazing to see how over the last 10 years, Nintendo has learnt nothing.

I had no expectations or desire for 3rd party support but I did expect a lot more out of the company actually producing the thing.

You can't be serious, right? Almost every launch since the Wii has not even had a killer app. Yeah this isn't great but it has Zelda and that's far more than any launch has had in a very long time.

PS4 had jack shit to buy with launch. Resogun was basically the best game on it for months. Xbox One had Dead Rising 3 and Ryse. Hardly anything to get excited about.

You're forgetting all the third party titles that X1/PS4 received.

A ton of big hitter titles.

If I keep my pre-order, it'll be Zelda and Bomberman at launch for sure. I'll pick-up Mario Kart when it drops the next month for the fixed Battle Mode alone and keep my eye on some of these indie games that are being announced.

Yea this is easily one of the worst. Honestly they had to launch Zelda with this or else it would have been an utter disaster.

I preordered one but honestly think this is the worst launch lineup in history for a major platform.

Baffled that all of those ports aren't for launch... I mean...

I am stunned by everything switch related. I bought a fuckin' Wii U at launch and even I'm not touching this.

You and me both. I bought the wii U at launch as well, but even this is just too much for me to put up with. I guess nintendo found my breaking point.

First party? They ditched the Wii U halfway through, delayed this thing "for it to be ready" and it's launching with one of the worst line-ups ever.
