North American Nintendo Switch Lineup

Before the event started I was worried that there would be too many launch games I wanted and not enough time/money for all of them....

Just Zelda for me now.

Nintendo have become pathologically obsessed with recapturing the Wii zeitgeist and it is NOT. HAPPENING. Ever.

Even then if it was going to happen it would be on the VR train, not the 'turn sideways from screen and use your imagination' whatever the hell that was.

A pretty mixed bag imo.

Mario: Love it from a gameplay aspect (i.e. more acrobatics and open world exploration) but that city looks jarring as fuck. Reminds me of Sonic 06, and as a rule, NOTHING should ever remind anyone of Sonic 06.

Zelda: Looks fucking great! Doesn't seem that different graphically than the Wii-U version aside from probably frame rate improvements, but I didn't think Nintendo was going to bother extracting any additional power from the Switch for a Wii-U game.

Xenoblade 2: Looks pretty disappointing honestly. Didn't impress me in the least.

Splatoon 2: Looks fun, but also identical to the Splatoon.

It's launching with the largest and possibly best Zelda game ever made and people are calling it abysmal... oh neogaf.

What?! One single-player game doesn't cut it nowadays. I don't see how anyone can look at the launch lineup and not consider it terrible overall.

At the least, mario kart and some other main franchise should have been available, day one.

First party? They ditched the Wii U halfway through, delayed this thing "for it to be ready" and it's launching with one of the worst line-ups ever.

I don't understand why Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't a launch title.

How can it not be ready? Or did Nintendo intentionally hold it back because they have nothing else to release until Splatoon 2?

Where are the smaller 3DS-like titles from Nintendo, wasn't that the whole point of the Switch, to merge the handheld and console divisions and avoid software droughts!?

It's not a good line up, but anyone saying it's the worst ever is crazy. It's not even the worst launch between the last two Nintendo home consoles.

I get to play zelda so I don't care. Name one system that had a game that looks this fantastic at or near launch?

It looks good, but no where near good enough to drop $300 bones plus the cost of the game on day one. Sorry. To me, it'd be nuts. Typically, you at least have third-party stuff to fall back on at least.

They screwed up on this launch. I'm not predicting an impending downfall, but this wasn't good imo.

One game that's not even exclusive to the console. They abandoned their current gen platform years ago and merged their product lines to focus on great support for the Switch and this is the lineup they trot out. They're going to have a miserable couple years.

They really are. PS4 and Xbox one had big 3rd party games to fall back in when they launched. AC,Battiefield, madden, NBA, cod
Yeah I think the third party support from the west will be lackluster again. That really hurt the Wii U and looks to be a problem again.

Go back and look at what those launched with. This is far worse imo
I did. In fact, I bought one early on. Nothing of note except NSMB and a port of Sonic Racing. The rest was ports of games that were literally over a year old at that point and stuff people forgot existed before the year ended. The only new game that's a hidden gem from that launch is Nintendoland, and that still wasn't worth the asking price until they bundled a Wii controller in with it.

Wii wasn't great either. In fact, it was similar to this. A port of Zelda, Wii Sports and then a bunch of garbage. This still gets a leg up because it has Puyo Puyo Tetris and what might be a good Bomberman game, which we haven't seen in like a decade.

The launch line up is not good. But as a Zelda fan, I just couldn't be happier. Zelda beats everything else, imo. If the game is significantly improved on Switch, I'll be there day one for sure.

Jesus that's a terrible launch lineup. What the hell happened? The rumours suggested a solid lineup but almost all the good games aren't ready for launch.

Bomberman and Zelda day one.

yeah zelda's a no-brainer, i need to see bomberman's price though
if it's like they're pricing SF II, ill wait on a sale

really am surprised MK8 isn't ready, was hoping for ports of Smash, Maker etc to pepper in launch window but i guess not

I think Nintendo is saving a ton of announcements for E3 and a bunch of software for the holidays. I think overall the launch window is decent, but I do think they should have teased more projects that are further out.

Holy shit wow that's a terribad lineup. It doesn't even have the same port kickstart that the WiiU had in its initial year. Why the fuck is Farming Simulator a notable release?!

You really think the launch window is decent? Some people are easily pleased!

I was fully expecting minimal launch titles from Nintendo, but assumed Wii U ports would be coming like every month to fill out the line up, doesnt seem to be the case.

Between launch and E3 from Nintendo we have Zelda, Mario Kart and some mini games....this is pathetic. First impressions are everything imo, if this looks awful out of the gate, it's gonna take a miracle to correct. They managed it with the 3DS, couldn't with the Wii U, can they do it now?

If you look at how theyre spacing 1st party games they seem aware support is either behind or lacking. They do have some good software coming from japan but it isn't ready so theyre spacing out their own offerings to try and convince people there wont be a draught.

Zelda - march
Mario kart: reopen your wallet - april
Splatwoon - july
Mario 2006 - November

Arms will show up may/june and i expect it will be light on content. I could see some another wii u port showing up at some point later in the year too.... *smash*

It wont be a wasteland like 3ds or n64 but its still disappointing that they've been talking with devs for two years and all they got is a cross gen game, two ports with added content and a single new Mario.

If you own a Wii U there is no reason to buy a switch during the launch window. Zelda seems to be the big draw but that experience can be had for $60 instead of $360. I'm still trying to remain optimistic about the console. Based on the info so far I'll probably wait for the switch to get some serious bundles before I consider grabbing one.

Yeah don't understand why they couldn't clean up a bunch of Wii U games for this...

Zelda, Bomberman, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Sonic Mania, Mario Kart, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and a few others I'm forgetting.

Yeah, to me, that's decent.

Those games are far too spread out imo (the ones that matter). Not going to anyone I know and talking about how puyo puyo has us wanting the switch asap.

It just seems like a high cost of entry for Zelda on the 3rd. Not sure what I expected. Maybe Mario kart immediately or at least a port of 3D world.

I wouldnt call Splatoon 2 launch window (summer), but thats just me.

Plus when every other console has dozens of games a month, the Switch looks barren in comparison right now.

That's fair. If it's released past June, I wouldn't consider it launch window either.

I own the other consoles, so that doesn't really bother me. If E3 comes and goes without some major new announcements, then it'll bother me.

Is it me or people really really gave too much credence to the supposed leaks and rumours?

I don't understand why they aren't flooding the system with Wii U ports at launch. They would have had enough time to prepare and port their library of good games, that many people haven't played yet:

  • Super Mario 3D World
  • New Super Mario Bros. U
  • Smash Bros
  • Super Mario Maker
  • Wind Waker and Twilight Princess
  • Splatoon 1 (maybe too much of a competitor to Splatoon 2)
  • Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade (with support from these third parties)
  • ...
They really missed an opportunity here.

Pointless.

Just curious what are we considering the launch window? One month? 3 months? A year? Regardless, that list is a mixed bag. If I didn't have a Wii U already that list of games would look a lot more impressive.

How could they not have the Wii u ports ready for launch? How is that possible?

The whole point was for those games to carry the system with Zelda for the first couple of months.

Mario kart not being a launch title is mind boggling.
