Guy on BBC Radio 5 just said, 'An earthquake has been detected near North Korea's nuclear test site' - I think he got his words mixed up though because 10 seconds later he said, 'seismic event'.

Leave it to North Korea to rustle the worlds' jimmies only five days into 2016.

Regardless, any success in nuclear weaponry is not a good thing, especially if it can be miniaturized and loaded onto a rocket/missile.

Refresh me. Is this illegal?

Illegal in what sense? They're not signatory nor ratifiers of the various nuclear testing treaties ie. Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty etc. They withdrew themselves from the IAEA and the Nuclear NPT etc. So not much can be done that hasn't been done before. At best they'll get sanctions again, but unless China is willing to do something, and the US/South Korea stop sending aid (humanitarian, food aid), nothing will change.

Surprisingly, China got really pissed at DPRK after the 2013 test. Relations had only very recently started to recover. This is likely to merit an extremely strong response from China.

Has anyone else watched "The Propaganda Game" on Netflix? In the documentary they exposed some of the lies spread within the regime to their citizens, but they seemed to criticize the western media even more than the North Korean media. It was almost more pro DPRK than anti-DPRK

What is even more interesting was the news reporting just hours ago of a possible successful SLBM (Submarine launched balistic missile) test from North Korea in December:

If they get SLBM's figured out, even if they only go 100 miles, plus a small enough warhead to go on them, that is going to cause a problem that may lead to military action. North Korea is way, way too unstable to be allowed to have that type of capability, even if it is very basic.
