Not really spoilers... still... tiny thoughts about SotC's colossi...

GAF's Pleasant Genius
Does anyone else feel bad after killing each of them ? To me the game gives an enormous feeling of guilt when I hunt down each colossus and I engage battle with it.

I know there is a reason, a loved one that needs to be saved and heck who would we be kidding if we said that if we were in the same situation as the main character of SotC we would not kill the colossi (self-justified selfishness), but I cannot help having some kind of second thoughts when I battle the colossi and slay them. After all, I came looking for them, they did not come to hunt me.

Also, would a loved one really appreciate the bloodshell we made to save them or would we end up saving them but losing their love ?

I do think that the game creators made everything possible for you to at least respect the colossi as worthy adversaries towards which your are headed against by your needs.

Very interesting are the shadow people that are shown next to the character after each colossi has been killed (for each colossi that dies there is one more shadow that appears)... I keep thinking they are or were the colossi and somehow their spirit is now free, but then they somehow appear sad and imprisoned in the temple...

I am very far from finishing the game, but somehow, also judging by most Japanese movies I have seen even a supposedly good ending leaves a very sad and bitter taste in your mouth (MGS 1, MGS 2, MGS 3 did the same thing to me by the way... I would not call them games with a happy ending :(), I feel it will end in a meaningful, beautiful, but in the end still in a sad way.

I do think that the colossi are some of the very best "monsters" in a videogame because they're more than just monsters or bosses. The fact that someone stops to consider them in such a light says something - when is the last time anyone thought such a thing about random Final Fantasy Boss XX?

They do appear very naturalistic and a part of the ecosystem (even if a "cursed" ecosystem) of the land you, the hero, are essentially invading. I do feel this gives the game more layers than a simple-minded "hero on quest who beats stuff up" premise tends to do.

Edit:

Extra thought, on character design. While the colossi do appear imposing and brutal (brutal in some cases), I noticed that their head and facial design didn't usually have the typical "evil monster" theme. Their eyes are round, bright, and mysterious; they don't automatically read as good or evil, as benign or hostile. Their faces seem to avoid giving the impression of directly caring about the hero or directly hating him. When they attack, it often comes across more as a creature engaging in a natural behavior.

I didn't feel the least bit remorseful after killing any of the colossi. Hell, had I the opportunity, I would've teabagged every one of them after knocking them down.

;)

I set up a knee-high table and a toy tea set and go back to my fallen friends so that I can reanimate them and toast them while laughing and crying and singing Auld Lang Syne.

Fuck no. Most of the those bitches are actively trying to kill you. You must be really early into the game. :P

they didn't hunt you, ho. you went into their territory - even into their ruins and shit! - and started climbing them to stab them in the headz0r

you lo down!

This was the first thing I thought 'way back upon playing the demo and finding out the game's plot:

"My character's an asshole".

Yes, I felt bad for killing the colossi. I kept hoping that the ending would go like this:

Guy: "I brought you back to life!"
Girl: "Wow, thanks. How'd you do that?"
Guy: "I killed 16 giant wandering magical creatures".
Girl: "You killed them to save me? You're a fucking jerk!"
Guy: "No, I did it for love, baby. C'mon, let's go home and get it on!"
Girl: "Don't touch me! You're never getting any, ever again! Go fuck your horse!"

Jecht and/or the Aeons at the end of FFX... which wasn't that long ago.

Nice try, though.

YES. I was just thinking about this a little while ago. Maybe there will be some justification for this in the end, I certainly hope so. These things are way to cool to kill just for the sake of one human life.

I was thinking the same thing.

I can't wait to crack this baby open on Christmas.

I did feel sorry for them throughout much of the game, but once you see the ending, you won't feel bad about it anymore.

Jesus, this game is brilliant on so many levels.

The japanese ad, says something like: "The final blow is so . . . sad.""Saigo no ichigeki wa . . . setsunai.", maybe it was supposed to be like that

Yeah, especially the smaller colossi. The one in that temple with fire really hurt me, because the poor little thing acted like a dog. He looked so scared when you
walked at him with fire
, and, and. . .

;_; DUCK AM CRY

the only one i feel bad bout killing was the flying one in the desert because he didn't attack or anything the rest nah fuck them
