Didn't see it posted already:
Xbox 360 turned in the most successful October on record maintaining its lead in the current-generation console market. This holiday season, Xbox 360 delivers outstanding value as an all-in-one entertainment platform and is already off to a great start as a hot holiday gift.

October 2011 NPD highlights:
· Holding 44 percent share of the overall current-generation console market, Xbox 360 sold 393,000 units in October, maintaining the number-one console spot in the U.S. for 2011. This marks the eighth consecutive month Xbox 360 has had more than 40 percent of the current-generation console market share. (Source: NPD Group, October 2011)

· Xbox 360 unit sales grew 21% YOY in October, and it was the only current-generation console showing double digit growth. (Source: NPD Group, October 2011)

· Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in October (hardware, software and accessories) reached $490 million, the most for any console in the U.S. (Source: NPD Group, October 2011)

· During the month of October, Xbox 360 held six of the top ten console game titles including: “Battlefield 3,” “Batman: Arkham City,” “NBA 2K12,” “Rage,” and Xbox 360 exclusives “Forza Motorsport 4” and “Gears of War 3.” (Source: NPD Group, October 2011)

Kinect momentum continues with a growing portfolio of more than 75 new Kinect for Xbox 360 titles in the market by holiday – four times more than last holiday. New titles include sequels to best sellers such as “Kinect Sports: Season Two” and “Dance Central 2.” New games like “Kinect Disneyland Adventures” are making Xbox 360 home to the best family friendly content available; more than 90 percent of Kinect titles are rated Everyone or Teen.

Xbox 360 also released some of the biggest excusive blockbuster games this holiday with titles like “Gears of War 3,” “Forza Motorsport 4” and “Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.”

In addition to games, Microsoft is rolling out the next generation of TV entertainment on Xbox LIVE this holiday, bringing a breadth of content providers and innovative user experiences unmatched by any other games or entertainment devices to Xbox 360 . With nearly 40 world-leading TV and entertainment providers including Comcast, HBO GO, BBC, Bravo and Televisa, the platform is taking a major step toward realizing its vision to bring all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy.

With a robust holiday portfolio that has something for everyone, we are expecting another blockbuster holiday and finishing the year as the number one console worldwide.

Didn't PS3 have a recent price drop? Low sales doesn't make sense.
It seems that more and more people chose the Xbox 360 instead in the US. That would at least be one explanation to why the Xbox 360 sales increases and the PS3 sales keeps fairly stable.

Nice to see Dark Souls chart, though it was expected. Probably among my top 5 this year.

(Oh and Kirby Mass Attack's 2nd month would be great too!)

We got first month sales? Want to see that!
Also, disappointed Kirby didn't chart. Maybe in November =D? Who am I kidding...

AA released at the end of the month and did right around 600K first month and another 400K the second month.

Impressive jump but not entirely unexpected considering the legs on the first game.

You're right, I was probably thinking of the second month.

Good software sales all around. I'm happy that Dark Souls and Batman did well.
360 hardware did great numbers, the product is really strong in the US.
I expected a bit more from the PS3 (around 300k vs 250k) while the Wii numbers was predictable based on the NIntendo datas a few days ago.
3DS did well but it's still not taking off.

November will be so interesting. 360 won't have a new Kinect launch this year but even without a price drop is doing fine.
PS3 should definetly improve yoy because of the great bundles, 199$ deals, Uncharted 3 bundle at the beginning of the month.
Wii is unpredictable, it will go up because of the holyday but who knows how much.
And we'll finally know if 3DS can hope in a take off similar to what has happened in Japan.

The 3DS was the second best-selling hardware platform, with combined 3DS/DS sales up over 25% from last October.”

“On an average sales per week basis, October 2011 unit sales of 3DS, DS, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms all saw an increase over September 2011, which was a 5-week retail month (Oct'11 was a 4-week retail month),”

From a hardware standpoint, the industry looks like it's maintaining a very solid position despite no new home consoles for a long time, but software continues to be dominated by the same few franchises that have topped the charts this entire generation (and in some cases, the last generation or 2 as well).

The Oblivion -> Skyrim jump next month is going to be massive. Wrpgs have really taken off this generation. Especially those published by Bethesda.

Can't see anything catching the 360 this year. Wii may close the gap a bit though.

360 straight selling stupid numbers.
Heading into YEAR 7 of its lifecycle and it's pulling record numbers out of its ass. There's simply no historic precedent for something like this in North America.

The US is a lost territory for Sony, they will never recover from this generation. So how about Sony starts treating PAL land, i.e. its major territory, with the same passion and interest as the uninterested NA one.

Nintendo predicts 3DS first year sales will be greater than DS first year sales:

EDIT: It's in the OP. Still that's crazy and worth noting.

I know they started at $599 and everything, but SCEA should be ashamed of themselves. They need to properly sort themselves out with PS4.

Good job it all resets with a new console cycle.

The 360 is the NES of a new era and a new, wider audience and larger population to draw from. No reason it shouldn't be - for all that the hardest core audience complains it is "old and creaky", it still delivers games like Gears 3 on a regular basis. That's a damn high standard of entertainment software to be providing after so many years.

That's not going to happen anymore. The model has changed. Sony and Nintendo should be very scared of MS next gen.

So exactly how many games are going to break 1 million next month? 5? MW3, Battlefield 3, Zelda (this might be a bit of an if), Skyrim, Ass Creed. Anything I'm missing?
