Trump will reach single digit approval ratings.

What is the point of the Intelligence Community or any of our agencies if they seemingly have all this information but keep quiet about it to everyone?

You'd think someone would have the guts to speak up about this in an official capacity.

I dunno man, the last few times someone broke information about the US government doing a bunch of bad shit that they shouldn't be doing it really didn't end well for those people.

The US population isn't exactly kind to whistle blowers.

See, stuff like this makes me think he's going to be impeached or compelled to resign or something. The IC community has been overthrowing foreign governments for decades, and they are currently acting suspicious to Trump. He's not GWB, former head of the CIA. Dude sold Trump steaks, bankrupted casinos (lol how?), and made a university that got sued into oblivion. He's gonna go up against the NSA? Good luck.

and to think the electoral college had all the leverage it needed to hit the self destruct button and not let this shitshow presidency happen.

Hillary had more faithless electors than Trump.

Think about that.

Why is a story about high level information being withheld from the Trump White House being leaked to the press anyway?
It's as if this story was leaked to try & goad the Trump White House into doing something petty and reactionary to further discredit themselves.
Too many things with this story arent adding up.

If this is even remotely true(and I bet it is) then congress needs to get its act together and remove him and his admin out of office. they have all been compromised.

It's an opinion piece based on someone with ties to the IC. The only reason why it is listed as opinion at this point is because the information he's receiving hasn't been backed up by other sources. Most of the comments the author does make though are rooted in fact. The issues with Flynn and Russia, the leaked dossier, and what these two facts mean for possible interests being included in high level intelligence briefings that we'd rather not have other countries hearing.

The biggest issue is of course the non or less salacious parts of the 35-page report being confirmed. by SIGINT while the WH is trying to play everything related to it as false or fake news. Depending on what else can be confirmed...shit may very well be going down and soon.

uh oh. pee pee tape coming when?

Or someone is going to end up dead by mysterious but ultimately natural causes.

The Observer is a very reputable paper and John Schindler has broken Intel related stories before. He's former NSA. Trump and Flynn are a living nightmare for the intelligence community, and they're pushing back.

That will never happen. The best we can hope for is an approval rating somewhere in the twenties or thirties.

30's is possible, but highly unlikely.

25% of the country listen to Hannity every day and think that Liberals are trying to bring about the end times, so Trump could literally do no wrong with that group.

Bet they tested this with a bunch of some insignificant but important-seeming nuggets of intel to see if they would seep out, and they probably did. Shit, it's what I'd do.

The GOP is too spineless. They'd kill their own mothers to keep their power. They aren't gonna risk upsetting Trump voters

If irrefutable proof comes of this shit, enough of them are too spineless not to vote against him, and the rest fall in line because they too won't want to lose their seats. Being in power now means nothing if they're not going to keep it.

And the administration is so largely comprised of idiots. Flynn lied to Pence face. The smart guys are in Moscow. The CIA probably doesn't need to do anything very advanced to confirm their fears.

Right... The argument works in the opposite direction, too.

They all hate him as it is. Trump is their useful idiot for the time being... But if his popularity keeps tanking, you'll see the party let him drown on his own.

Of course, this will be after they've used him to pass their shitty agenda.

I mean, Russia does know what it's doing with counter spying operations by getting some of the more insane things on the intelligence file. Like the peeing hookers bit. Stupid people of course take the bait and say "nah dog" while the damning info is in the finer and less attention-grabbing details.

Can Trump fire NSA people? I know he confirmed a guy to run the CIA, and is keeping Comey at the FBI.

They all need to not give Trump information, you bet your ass Russia has the white house bugged.

Aparently some people in those agency cant be fired, they are veteran agents and one of the reason they cant be fired isbasically for situattions like this, is like how Trumo cant fire federal judges.

The Russians have splintered and possibly compromised our executive branch, planted propaganda and misinformation into our news cycle, abetted a dissatisfaction and distrust of some of our most important democratic institutions, helped foment dysfunctional nationalist and regressive sentiments in our population, and further dichotomized our people along ideological lines.

It doesn't matter what happens going forward. The damage is done; the Russians won the fight that we didn't even know we were in.

I just hope that there is enough healthy infrastructure left unaffected to prevent a more serious crisis, and it is not encouraging that controlled leaks from intelligence agencies are stating that they cannot trust the President. I hope Trump is not compromised, and that Flynn's actions were only of poor judgment. And I hope it ends there. If the smoke turns to fire, we will be facing an unprecedented crisis as a country....

The American people did this to themselves. The Russians didn't show up to vote. Americans did. The Russians didn't foment xenophobia and racism. Americans did.

We have a problem in this country and it's more than just Russians dabbling here and there in American concerns. It's education, culture, society, and government. We are at a crossroads of change and we are fighting with ourselves, not the Russians, on how we will proceed.

This is a discussion, an argument, that stretches back 12+ years, across multiple administrations. We have been having this argument with ourselves since the Bush Jr. administration. Where it will go, I don't know. But I do know that if you remove the Russians from the equation entirely, we would still be having this problem.

Why is this not an impeachable offense? This is a rhetorical question, btw.

When you can't even trust your own President, jesus fucking christ. What happened to you, USA?

GOP is extremely happy with him right now. Because they live in their own personal fantasies in their minds they can wish away all the bad stuff.

Strolling to a meeting last week, Mr. Corker was asked about the latest Trump controversy: The president had just attacked the retailer Nordstrom for dropping his daughter Ivanka’s accessories and clothing line.

The senator flashed a broad smile.

“Did he really?” he asked.

This reads like a surreal, real-life enactment of the "This is fine." strip.

I know it's rhetorical, but let's go down the path anyways. First you have to ask: what law did Trump break? If you say treason, then you have to look at the Constitution.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

Trump will never confess, so you need two witnesses and that's going to be difficult. You basically need a Watergate level caught red-handed event to happen, or find another law that he's broken. Since it's arbitrary on what treason is- and the GOP wants to keep power to an incredibly sad point...it's going to be a difficult road.
