Nvidia Damage Control: Game developers have full, detailed artistic control over DLSS 5 effects

It doesn't matter whether game developers have the artistic control, or not.

The fact is, this video at least, the changes that DLSS 5 showed, it simply disturbed people, and people don't like being disturbed in any way, shape, or form.

People just want more of free framerate, and better upscaling technology.

Holy shit. Who gives a fuck if some retards online are disturbed, literally get a ps5pro or dont flip the dlss5 switch.

I want this thing and I am not disturbed at all, at all, I love AI.

I am disturbed that you're not perturbed

Poo hooooooooo me knickers.

It's early here folks, we needs coffee

Myself, I also have nothing against AI, and it's the future.

Still, 60k downvotes, 5 times more than upvotes on that YT video - it must mean something.

People bitch online all the time, that's the nature of things. People will be craving new Nvidia cards when the time comes, and bitch when they're scarce :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Exactly this. It's going a tad too far imo.

the dislike extension is just guessing because it doesn't have access to the dislike-api. it's also just using data from the people who have the extension installed.
I have it installed too, but I wouldn't really trust that thing.

As far as we know it will be taxing to run, and yeah it's up to the devs to implement and fine tune.
Ok, so that's problem solved right? If the developer doesn't like the results they can just not use the tech. If though the tech can just be applied to any game then I completely understand artistic integrity, I wonder if it could make Marathon look good?

People like DLSS because it's the best upscaler that provides them with good fps gain.

They should not tie this to DLSS and make it what it wasn't until now and instead make this it's own feature with it's own name and everything.

It will be a toggle for the user like so many other graphical features on pc, only the anti AI crowd, artistic preservation white knights, and youtuber using this for easy views are up in roar. Maybe when it comes out some dude might tinker with the files and make it work on every DLSS able game, who knows...
It remains optional.

Ok, but they should have clarified that in the video showing examples of different use, as it is they recreated character models/faces in every clip, some making the final image look completely different to what was the original vision (Hogwarts especially). Why not just have one or two clips showing just lighting changes only?

(the cynic in me says they currently don't have that kind of control 'yet' and are responding to the backlash)

What a shame a company big and rich like that doing something fake, the market of chip , ram and SDD are fucked cause IA trash

I'll use my eyes, thank you very much.

Biggest graphical leap since PS1-PS2.

Even Bethesda, known for hideous games and cardboard characters, can make a stunning looking game now.

Hell, I imagine even the talentless hacks at Team Ninja and FROM Software can make good looking games now.

STARFIELD.gif

Greatest day in gaming since TLOU 2 was announced.

God bless AI, God bless Nvidia.

No gonna lie the The Starfield shit looked great.
Imma give it a chance in whatever games support it.....Ill decide myself after testing.

Ohh wait this is Blackwell exclusive............Super Blackwells were cancelled and we likely only gonna see Rubin in like 2028?

Its fine.....Ill test it when Rubin launches......by then my RTX4080 will have truly earned its keep and I can justify an upgrade.

It's crazy weird seeing some people completely dismiss this. Do the faces look a little uncanny? Sure, but it's still higher fidelity than the usual video gamey faces we have now. The environments look absolutely stunning though.
But it's very important to note that this is the first time we are seeing tech like this, they will improve it over time just like they did normal DLSS when it was full of artifacst in its 1.0 release version.
Tech like this will also improve in the years to come, but this is a great starting point.
This is far from the starting point for this tech.
Over a year ago they shown that neural rendering demo that had a bunch of what's implemented under DLSS5

RTX Kit is NVIDIA's developer toolkit of AI rendering technologies for path traced games, powered by GeForce RTX™ 50 Series Desktop and Laptop GPUs. RTX Kit features RTX Neural Materials for film-like materials, RTX Neural Faces for realistic character faces generated in real-time with AI, DLSS 4 for up to 8X FPS over native rendering, RTX Mega Geometry for up to 100X more ray-traced geometry, and much more. These RTX Kit technologies are shown in Zorah - a new groundbreaking RTX neural rendering tech demo built in Unreal Engine 5.

RTX Neural Faces is a new generative AI algorithm that takes a rasterized face and 3D pose and generates an enhanced face in real-time. The high quality of the generated face is achieved via a pipeline that trains on offline-generated images taken at every angle, under different lighting and occlusion conditions, and with different emotive expressions

This industry lies more than speaks, specially nowadays. And even if this is true...still doesn't mean it will be good, specially if the developer stop caring about an artistic vision in the first place. And we're talking about big corporations.

Btw I think if we wanna talk about how good or bad AI is we should make comparisons with the GOOD ART from the past in the first place, not the bad one. And if we see problems with the new thing artistically-wise...then it's not worthy. So examples like Starfield aren't good comparisons. Also...photorrealism isn't what this medium needs to improve more.

I think what's throwing this off for me is the juxtaposition of hyper realistic faces on a video game background. It would probably look better to a degree if the entire image were being rendered in the same way rather than just the chars primarily, but it instantly creates a "one of these things is not like the other" bit of uncanny valley feel to it. Plus it just has that AI look to it that we've all gotten used to which is just kind of dogshit.

I find it funny that a large portion of games nowadays are made using engines that have pre-built models, textures, and lighting. The "artists," for the most part, are just Lego builders.

Back in the day, when everything was done manually, you could even use that argument, but nowadays, I don't buy that idea.

John is a dumbass and this is a mad scramble take.

The faces worked fine on Starfield. If they can truly flip effects on partially or on certain objects I'm sure that they will.

I think the tech seemed to almost benefit from a lower quality face to start… like Starfield.. and was "horrendous" in games where faces were higher quality to begin with.
My thoughts exactly, faces already looked bad so any uplift (even the AI slop variety) makes it look technically 'better' but that's Bethesda being a poor developer.
