Oh I know, AMD themselves have said as much. But it all depends on just how big of a gap there is between their offerings and the 1070. If it's close enough, and the cards are significantly cheaper than the 1070, a lot of people will go with AMD and thus pressure Nvidia to lower their prices.
if your spending that much on a 1070 you might as well go fr a 1080
What?!?
How much, roughly, would this come down once the Nvidia buy-it-now-because-the-world-might-end-tomorrow tax is removed?
Wait for RX480 release on 29th and then decide between its 8GB version (~$230) and 1070 custom (~$400). Both cards should be a nice upgrade from your 960 2GB even for 1080p. Avoid 970 as it's an old outgoing card with a smaller VRAM amount which will become an issue soon.
1080p TV will be fine with the 480. The 1070 is a great card but likely twice the price. I'm going for a 1070/1080 because I need more performance for my 1440p UW monitor but also I want the extra stuff they're bringing for VR to improve performance and quality.

I have no plans of upgrading my 970 any time soon but still follow these new card releases with interest.
Back with the 970 and 980 there was a very real difference in price that could be weighed up. In this instance it would be sensible to entertain adding £70 to jump to the 1080.
Do they even know their market for this card?
I'm pretty sure Nvidia know EXACTLY how much they can get away with.
Thanks guys.
Will there be a new version of the 960 coming out anytime soon? I can wait for a while... Otherwise I'll check out the new amd card![]()
Exactly. The money is no issue people are buying 1080sRight, but it should be the same market that wouldn't pay this same price for a 980 nearly two years ago. So why would they pay it for a 1070 now? This isn't the 'money is no issue, need the best card now' people looking to buy it.
So a 499 euro 1070 shouldn't be a surprise unfortunately, and that might just be for basic cards.
1070 Gaming X from Msi listed at £420 here now. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-32a-ms.html
now *that* is just profiteering IMO. Other than a couple of outliers, most custom cards should be at or below FE prices.

We don't half get shafted in the UK.
Given that you can already order a 1080 for 659, I very much doubt 1070 prices will remain above 500 for long.

FE's are £400 on Scan.co.uk.....
EVGA site was messed up before anything even launched (clearly they didn't learn anything from last time)
also apparently the pricing on these 1070s from all of the partners is expected to be really bad?...may end up just passing for now then if it's ridiculous
It's like $419 for the base EVGA model.
Are prices expected to go lower after these FE cards? Or will this be the spectrum wherein the cards will stay?

Why are the custom ones such a rip off when Nvidia themselves gave a much lower ballpark figure for them? Are there more coming? I hope so, because at these prices, I'm out.
