Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Holy crap, my Zotac 1070 Amp Edition is actually shipping today. I bought it yesterday on backorder and Newegg said it wouldn't ship for a week minimum. Looks like next week is gonna be a good week!

The 2500k is still quite potent. You'd gain a fair bit though by overclocking it. What are your load temps like? Did you have trouble applying the thermal paste? What cooler are you using?

It's been since 2012 that i checked, so I would probably have to rerun the tests, but i think I was in the 90s at load with stock clock?

I can easily check my idles when i get home but i think they're 50 or 60.

I don't feel like i had any trouble with the paste at all and even tried twice just in case but made no difference. Using the stock cooler cause the aftermarket one i was considering apparently requires dremmelling down part my case's side fan shroud.

Thanks for the help, I'll have to collect some more info.

In good news, woah, my MSI 1070 Gaming X is out for delivery today after originally being scheduled for Monday.

With UK leaving the EU could the prices get even worse, or could they actually get better? Even with the crappy prices I'm wondering if it might be good to stop waiting and grab a 1070 before the aftereffects kick in.

Are you referring to it affecting prices in the UK or elsewhere?

It was a reference blower style 290X before... It got expected performance

As far as the cooler on it now I think it's an Asetek (?) AIO cooler...I know it's the Summer now so the temperature in the house is warmer but not by much compared to normal, certainly not enough to make that massive of a leap in CPU temps

Can you tell if the AIO pump is running? With the temps you're getting, it may have failed.

try checking the heatsink, and thermal paste.
maybe the heatsink got loose or thermal paste gone dry

RX480 already released at your place?

Not yet , but retailer already asking for a firm pre-order pricing .

Regardless , befitting of this thread

It's running but it only really keeps the temps down if you're not doing anything too intensive... As soon as you do anything that requires it to make sure it stays cool the temperatures go up and then it only cools it down a bit

Ran Fire Strike one time last night and the max it got to was in the 90s so there's definitely an issue with it

OK, GAF. I've been on AMD cards since the 4870. Now that I'm switching to the 1070, is there anything special I need to do? Obviously I need to do a full uninstall of AMD drivers, but anything I should do beyond that? Is Driver Sweeper still a thing?

Is Zotac a good manufacturer? Their 1070 is like the only one I'm seeing consistently in stock.

I bought their 1070 Amp edition. Fan looks good and it has a backplate. So I guess I'll find out.

Enjoy the Nvidia software. That is the first thing you will notice. GeForce Experience makes everything so easy.

Get Nvidia Inspector.

Got my Gigabyte 1070 ordered from Newegg. It's on "packaging" status. Quite hyped. Not too happy I ended up paying $430, but I gave in, my 760 is in rough shape.

Curious issue. I had setup a fan profile for my Gigabyte G1 1070 using their software so that my fans don't run until it hits 60 C. However, my fans are absolutely running, and the GPU is at 49 C. Not sure why it's ignoring that profile suddenly? It was fine a few days ago.

They seem fine. Reviews for previous Amp edition cards look positive. Plus they seem to make some of the more interesting designs.

Years ago I bought a Zotac GTX 470. Bad news is that was the only video card I've ever had die on me. Good news is they replaced that card quickly. They literally shipped another card out the day they received my broken 470. Turnaround was only a little over a week.

I have an Zotac Amp 1070 on the way. The cooler/fan looks nice.

When will I be able to get a 1070 for MSRP? Also will any companies sell a blower design for MSRP? Are blowers quieter?

AIB cards are always going to be above MSRP because they're customizing the card. The only blower card out there besides FE is the MSI Aero, it currently lists for $410 on Newegg. That price might go down in a few months depending on how adoption of the new AMD cards goes. Blowers are generally louder and not as good at cooling.

Seems like a lot of people are now realizing the upped prices on AIB cards...that's always been the case. Want the bare bones card, pay MSRP. Want the pretty blower, pay a little more.

I paid $460 for the MSI Gaming X even though apparently the Gigabyte G1 Gaming has higher clocks. Oops.

At least I didn't get an FE? :p

Then I would echo everyone else and remove the heatsink, clean it and the CPU and reapply thermal paste. You might also take a vacuum to your radiator. How old is the CPU?

My FE was originally supposed to get here today, but now the delivery date has been pushed to tomorrow. And then I have to decide if I'm going to keep it or return it and try for an AIB card.

I've been reading that Gigabyte has terrible customer service. You'll be thankful in the long run that you paid a bit more if you ever have to do a replacement or contact customer support for any reason.

Seems like a slightly different situation here as the cheapest 1070 out there right now (at least in my country) is actually an AIB card (Inno3D iChill X3). Well, it's actually about the same price as the MSI Aero, depending on the store.

For those in the know about these cards, what are your thoughts on Asus? I've never bought from them, and there didn't appear to be a lot of specific feedback on line about the brand. The Asus ROG Strix OC seems interesting to me, but at $450, I want to know it would be worth the premium.

Ran a couple games this afternoon just to see the CPU temps after leaving the PC off overnight...not good... Every game hit 100 degrees according to the Afterburner overlay so that has to be taken care of as soon as possible

Ordered a new cooler and some thermal paste so I'll hopefully get that issue fixed early next week. Leaving the PC off until then. Fingers crossed that helps.

Got my 1070 on Tues and picked up DOOM from the Steam sale yesterday. Being able to play with everything maxed out averaging over 100 fps 😩🍆💦💦💦

What cooler did you have?

My MSI Gaming X was delivered today.
No signature wad required, so i ran home on my break to take it inside.

Am I going to need MSI afterburner to get the boost clock speeds, or is Nvidia software all i need for that? I ask because my afterburner doesn't seem to install right since my win10 upgrade.

An AIO water cooler... It's working but given the temperatures it's getting to it's not working anywhere near what it should... The only temperatures that are having a problem is the CPU

Ah, I've always used an air cooler. I have my 4790k OCed to 4.8 and it doesn't go higher than 73 on air

What vcore? And I assume you mean in games, vs in benchmarks?

1.264v for 4.6ghz right now

And my CPU has been running at 100% for the past 21 minutes transcoding a bluray into h.264 for my media server and the temp is 65

EDIT: I accidentally typed 4.8 in my earlier post. I mean 4.6.

Okay, I was about to reply saying you had the best Haswell chip I've ever heard of before you edited the vcore and frequency. :P
