Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Honestly seems to me it's a pretty viable option to buy an evga 980 ti and step up to a 1080. My 980 ti G1 seems to be a fair bit better than the 1070 FE. I suppose the Resale and 8gb on a 1070 is better, but raw performance isnt.

I have 2 rigs and sold a 970, so this was a good upgrade. But I don't think i would upgrade from a good clocking 980 even to a 1070, or even 1080. I would think a 1500 980 isn't really all that far behind a stock 1080 even.

And ocs on the 1070 and 1080 arent all that great seems like. 1070 did stock 17500 firestrike, 19000 pretty much max oc. My 980 ti does like 17000 stock and 22000 ocd.

Yep, an aggressive oc on a 980 does 16000 graphics. So I suppose if you're running higher resolutions a 1080 might be worth it.

And yeah, the vram is the biggest selling point.

Is that $20 difference from the MSRP really worth it? Trying to stay strong.

The cooler on that thing is almost certainly better than the FE blower. $20 is really not that much of an upcharge in the big scheme of things. It's pretty typical with past generations for card manufacturers to bump the price for custom versions. People have just forgotten that with all the price weirdness Nvidia is pulling

If you were considering getting a 1070 to begin with, might as well buy this while it's in stock. I think it's very doubtful you'll find a better price on a 1070 for the next few months.

My FE is surprisingly staying in the 60s in FireStrike runs, must be lucky. Running at +200 core and +500 mem as well.

Not saying the FE is bad, but they are traditionally not the best you can get in terms of cooling performance. I won't have mine until tomorrow and I'm eager to test it out.

But regardless, my main point is that if you want a 1070 and don't want to wait until the fall, this is worth springing for if you're super price sensitive.

I got my Asus FE 1070 today. Seems to work just fine. Not super loud aside from coil whine in CSGO, and it stays at 81-82 C on the default fan curve (I am not overclocking).

Yeah I put in in an ITX hadron case so I don't think the blower is such a bad thing. The low tdp gave me the willingness to boost my i5 4690k vcore to 1.2 and 4.5 GHz as well. Might try 4.6.

Alright after some mulling it over I bit.... hope I can get a decent return on this 970.

I hope Newegg is cool about the game promos as they have been in the past. I wound up getting TW3, Arkham Knight, and MGSV for free with my 970.

This review gives me pause tho.

I cant speak for the 1070 version, but my 970 Gigabyte G1 definitely had bad coil whine. And yeah, I'm not really a fan of these new cooler designs. Seems much cheaper than the previous series.

Shit, I tried to order but I had to reload and then back out before everything was processed because I had to turn off my script blocker. I got the e-mail for the order but it's not showing up in my order history.

Ahhhhh I haven't had time to open mine yet and I won't until possibly Monday b/c I'm leaving for a wedding but that review gives me sad!

Would that also be a problem on the $399 one I may or may not have successfully ordered? It didn't say it on the page but it looked like that was the Windforce.

Anyway, does Newegg usually take a couple business days for orders to show up in your history and for the charges to show up on your account? Neither has happened yet and I haven't ordered anything from Newegg in years.

My Gigabyte G1 1080 is great, no coil whine (that I can hear, anyway), stays very cool. My temps don't break 70-73C overclocked to 2 GHz and it stays reasonably quiet at around 55% fan speed. Barely louder than my case fans.

I think the G1 1070 essentially has the same cooler, though the Windforce is different.

It's in my order history now, but I guess they don't charge you until they ship it?

We'll see I guess. My current 760 is from Gigabyte I believe, and I have had zero problems with it in two and a half years. Now was the right time anyway since it's hard as shit to get the DOOM demo running well on my current card and the Steam sale is on.

I'm holding out at least until the promos start showing up but I also got those three as well as AC:Syndicate from NewEgg being cool with the promo codes and that was around five months after I bought my 970.

Wow, the Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce was in stock at Newegg.ca even now at 1:45 am EST! Grabbed one of those for $520 CDN (~$400 USD)!

I wanted one of the Gigabyte ones mostly because they make a big deal out of their fans not spinning while the card is idle/under a certain temperature which helps keep the system quiet. Although I've bought the card already, do all of the other 1070/1080's do this as well or is this a specific feature of the Gigabyte cards?

These reviews reporting coil whine need to mention the framerates they're playing at. Chances are that for most people who cap their shit at 60 this will never be a problem.

I too bought the 399.99 Gigabyte card, looks like Newegg has got some good stock of GTX 1070's lately. Figured a 2 fan solution should be plenty on a 150w card, no need for anything fancier than that, will still be better than a stock blower.

Only worry is I hear Gigabyte's customer service is the absolute drizzling shits, so let's hope our cards don't break guys.

I bought the $399.99 1070 because it's reasonably priced. I am worried about Gigabyte customer service; I hope there are no card issues. Despite the 2x 90 mm fans, it's probably better than the $449.99 reference blower.

Later I may upgrade to like an EVGA 1080 TI. Certainly not a Gigabyte card.

My Gigabyte G1 1070 from Amazon has shipped finally. Ordered on June 15th for those wondering. So basically a 15 day wait to get the non FEs. The price was ok ($429), not great, but it was never going to be $379 for a card that performed better than FE.

The $399 Gigabtye Windforce sounds like the best one can hope and performance should be fine given that TDP is down over previous gen.

Man, now I can't sleep after ordering that Gigabyte GTX 1070, too hype. My GTX 770 which has served me well for the last 2.5 years will get a break. Or be turned into a PhysX card, doubt that's worth the effort though.

Only on a 1080p/60 monitor for now, so at the very least I'll be able to max every setting until I buy a new monitor, that'll be a good feeling. That's a feeling I actually didn't get with my GTX 770, one of the pack in games with my Zotac 770, AC: Black Flag, didn't run at 60 FPS with max settings. That disappointed me greatly considering at the time the 770 was considered overkill for 1080p gaming. How times have changed. By the time the 1170 comes out next year, we'll likely be talking about how games are already pushing the 1070 to the limits at 1080p/60 with max settings, Ubisoft will come through with some amazing graphics options that run like garbage.

My card was originally supposed to be delivered yesterday, then it got pushed to today, and now it got pushed again to Tuesday, even though it's supposedly sitting at a FedEx facility not 5 miles away from my house. I'm about to pull my hair out.

In other news, that Gigabyte card still being up is shocking, especially now that it's showing up in search results. Maybe our stock woes are close to over already?

Call the FedEx facility. Usually you can go pick up your package if they have someone there.

damn, i see that $40 savings for a 1070 made a world of difference, like 10 gaffers quoted me saying ordered.

brb, checking my tracking # 80 times a day for no reason.

i'm going from 2GB to 8GB vram!

So I gather there are no impressions out there for the $399 Gigabyte 1070 Windforce (GV-N1070WF2OC-8GD)? I'm so curious what I've gotten myself into, but they must be really new!

The Hyper 212 Evo is highly regarded as one of the best air coolers and isn't that expensive

I was looking in to that myself but my coworker was trying to push me on the Corsair H60 Liquid Cooling. I'll have to do some research.

So far I've only used my MSI Gaming X to run Firemark (11592 Score, 18871 Gfx, 5355 Physics, 5404 Combined) out of the box, and ARK: Survival Evolved.

That game's unoptimized as hell, but I cranked up textures, resolution scaling, and some view distance and get around 60fps most of the time, where I was getting about 30fps without those increased settings on my 7850. Can't wait to try out Witcher 3.

What case do you have. In all honesty, water cooling is overkill if you have a case with good ventilation.

Was able to cancel my MSI Armor OC order on Newegg after discovering the Windforce everyone is talking about in this thread ($399) is available on the Canada site:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814125875

$519.99 CND, which is $399.99 USD. Can't wait!

I guess it's cheap because of lower clock speeds.
The G1 should be faster, don't know about noise/temp but I feel people wait for the G1 that's why it's still in stock.

Rosewill Blackhawk gaming mid case. I do assume it's doing a fine job based on the great temps my two twin frozr graphics cards have gotten.

That case has a shit ton of fan slots. Load it up with Silen X fans and a hyper 212 Evo and you'll be golden. And it'll be quieter than you could have ever dreamed of

I also ordered a G1 on June 15th. It hasn't shipped yet. The last time I talked to customer service they quoted July 28th ship date for me. I hope it ships soon!
