Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

Probably paid a little too much for my Zotac AMP but after using it for a few days I really like it. I haven't heard a peep out of it even when I'm pushing it hard. My old AMD 7970 would sound like a wind tunnel when the fans were on full blast.

I think my MSI GTX 1070 from Overclockers UK is in limbo and i won't get my card tomorrow. Something went squiffy and i'm not sure if the payment is going through. The order exists but has no status text. It's only been about 30 minutes but i sent a webnote so at least if it has gone pop i can reorder tonight/tomorrow and get it this week before i'm back to work next week.

I'm dithering with a Vive in mind but can't quite push the button but i'm not sure who to order from. My wallet is really scared especially as i'm looking at a cpu, mobo & mem upgrade later this year.

Going from a GTX 670 to this should be sweet.

Installed my Gigabyte G1 on Sunday into the older of my two PCs. I have an i7 4790k in the front room and a i5 2500k attached to the projector in by theater room (not overclocked as I stupidly bought a non-overclocking MB at the time).

Fully intend to bring the i7 into the other room, but need to run ethernet cable first (urgh).

Stuck it in the i5 just to see how it runs, and it's incredible even in there (although I'm coming from a 760, so it's quite the leap for me, maybe not for those on a 970 or 980), so I'm in no huge hurry to make the switch now - will probably wait until the next big AAA comes out to do that - although the i5 does have a tendency to lock up when left idle for a while, not quite sure what that's about.

Absolutely silent from my sitting position, I can see the fan stop light is on a good proportion of the time, even when playing the less intensive games, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Wow. Do we have the same issue?

My 2500K system will be hard locked occasionally if I leave it on for long periods of time. It only ever locks when idle though...it's never done it while in use.

I never did figure out the issue.

I have the Gigabyte UD5 motherboard.

Is the 2500k overclocked? If you have the low power C states enabled, you could be supplying too little vcore on idle, causing the crashes. Depends on how you're specifying your vcore (offset?).

I ordered my 1070 Founder's Edition directly from Nvidia's site on the 24th. I've gotten a purchase confirmation, but no shipping confirmation yet. Has anyone who ordered from there had to wait long between order and shipping? This is getting irritating, because the site didn't notify me that there could be such a significant wait.

All my other PC parts have arrived, just waiting on this GPU.

Mine took 3 days between order and a shipping confirmation. Don't even bother trying to call them on the phone, they are useless and can't/won't tell you anything.

Ugh, that's frustrating. If I had waited another few hours for one of the models on newegg to pop back into stock, I'd probably have it by now.

Damn it.

I ordered mine on Monday last week and i'd gonna be here today

Guys, between the Zotac 1070 AMP, Palit GameRock, and Palit JetStream, which one would you pick? Price would be the same.

Look for a 21:9 2560x1080 monitor. Every game will run at max res with 60fps (or higher, depending on the monitor) with ease and it future proofs it a bit, too.

I disagree. Not every game supports 21:9 aspect ratios and plus, it's not like the 1070 can't handle 1440p.

How exactly does an ultrawide monitor future-proof anything?

Zotac AMP!

Going for an ultrawide 1080 is a lot less pixels than a 16:9 1440p, so it futureproofs it in a way that with all that less rendering area, it should last longer. Plus a great deal of games offer 21:9 support, and those that don't will still run just fine in 16:9 mode

my 1070 arrived today from newegg, MSI Gaming GTX 1070 (not X version)

pretty happy with it.

here's my preliminary overclock, +210, +625

before/after

my old card (960) was FPS: 35.2 and Score: 887..

If I overclock a Gaming X in afterburner, does it matter if my card was on gaming clocks vs had its bios updated to default to oc clocks? Or is that all irrelevant when doing manual oc?

Haha Newegg accidentally RT'd a Tweet I replied to with their advertising the FE 1070s where I said I was waiting for better AIBs and not the FE BS and for prices to calm down.

I've had this issue, I've assumed it was a short or something loose somewhere because the times it happened was usually as I was getting up from my desk and/or walking by it. It became less frequent last year when I pulled almost everything out of my case and put it back in. I think it might've happened once since. I don't have that mobo.

Oh yes, the fucking eagle has landed.

Just got a hold of the Gigabyte G1 and am installing drivers right now....

Coming off of a reference 780 SC. This is gonna be amazing!

I ordered a FE Gigabyte 1070, it's a big upgrade from my 760, so I'm really looking forward to it.

It's just nit due for another two weeks cause I imported to avoid crazy Australian prices OTL. The wait is haaaard

oh man, it's scary having this much GPU power. i remember buying a $350ish GPU many years ago and i wasn't impressed and since then i decided to stick with a $200ish sweet spot, but im truly satisfied with the 1070.

playing tf2 at 144hz/fps only uses 25% gpu usage lol

games i used to get 30fps and now at 100++ fps. crazy!

My EVGA 1070 SC just shipped from Newegg, and I'm way excited for it. I'm on a GTX 470 now, that a friend gave me to replace my 9800GTX+ that I had been using up until a year ago.

Gonna be a nice jump.

Zotac 1070 Amp! shown up today. Two 8 pin connectors on it, interesting. Didn't even realize it was a custom pcb until it shown up.

Newegg got a hit of MSI 1070s and 1080s
Said screw it. Grabbed a 1070.

SLI 970s was an interesting experiment, with some nice results, but just a bunch of constant issues ranging from minor annoyances (awkward fan control and level issues), to rather big annoyances (serious stuttering in FFXIV only resolved by Afterburner OCing) to major fucking annoyances (Random self-shadowing bugs in PSO2 and Dirt Rally resulting in whole sections of geometry being shadowed in near pitch black at all times, only resolved by restarting games multiple times).

Shoulda listened to you GAF

Newegg also has a couple of MSI options for you as well. Seems like they've been up for over an hour now. I'd say you've got a good chance of placing an order tonight unless you strictly want Gigabyte only.

Ideally I'd like to pay as little as possible lol

I received my 1070 this morning and decided to try out Ryse Son of Rome to see just how bad it was. On the forest level I was getting frame rate dips to 20 at 1440p. I've no idea what the problem is but this card should be murdering that game.

4690k
8GB ddr3
GTX 1070

I'm on the latest drivers. Could it be the RAM? I wouldn't of thought 8GB would have such a large affect.

What card did you have before? If AMD, then run DDU and try reinstalling the drivers maybe? Also, is your CPU overclocked?

I'm not familiar with Ryse but maybe there is a setting or two that is tanking things..?

No, CPU back to factory settings at the moment. I upgraded from a 970 but I could try reinstalling the drivers. It probably is a setting tanking things. Maybe it isn't playing nicely with vsync.
