Very excited to pick one of these up. I hope there will be actual availability at some point this summer, and for the actual advertised price. The Founders Edition thing is so anxiety inducing, but everything else about the card seems excellent. Should get the job done for the next few years.
Really necessary in every thread concerning the 1070 / 1080? No one buys a Titan X because it's a great value... these people know what they're getting into. It's not exactly a shock that newer video cards are faster than older ones.

Mmmm I can almost taste the low resale value everyone will be dumping their Titans and 980s for. Gonna scoop me up a nice little upgrade to one of those perhaps.

It's called skipping 20nm and going straight from 28->16nm. This performance leap was long overdue to be honest.

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the founders edition in USD not CAD, the base retail price for the 1070 is $379 USD which is damn reasonable though.
It is, granted that we're ever gonna see a card that comes even close to that price. Judging from those 1080 prices, we won't.

Great reviews, the 1070 is a beast for the price and with nice overclocking too. Definitely picking up a 1070, once the non Founders Editions are out, no way I'm paying that premium for what is really the stock card.
Care to explain that for people who weren't buying new cards then?

That has to be the ugliest blower style cooler I have ever seen. I will still consider it if the cooling performance is good, though. I like blowers because they exhaust the hot air out the back of the case instead of just dumping it in the case.

2560x1600/60? 1070 is fine.
It's just that I've seen the 1440p benchmarks and I'm worried there'll be a significant enough drop to put me below 60 fps.

980 was a lot more expensive and only offered ~5% improvement in frame rates in real world tests IIRC.
The gap seems a little bigger this time, but there is no denying that you get much better performance/$ than 1080.

If you want an almost rock solid 60fps with every setting at max in nearly every game at 1440p/1600p then the 1080 will do that, but it also costs significantly more than the 1070 which will be able to run nearly every game with the nearly the same performance but you will just have to turn down some settings to high instead of very high or ultra.
Yeah keep in mind most of the benchmarks are maxed out completely, in some cases stupidly so. You don't need 4x MSAA at 1440p for example, and in some games, just lowering shadows or ambient occlusion from ultra to high can get you 5-10 more FPS at almost no visual cost. I'm planning on grabbing a 1070 for that same resolution and I'm not particularly worried.
Crying that we've had this performance for over a year. Yes. True tears over here, Finaika ;_;
Anyway this is impressive. Just makes me that more hyped for Pascal Titan though.
This really does seem like the best card for most people (assuming it's within budget). It'll handle pretty much anything you throw at it in 1080 maxed out. Seems like 1440 is fine as well at 60fps. Hopefully they aren't insanely hard to get a hold of when they come out. I was stupidly thinking of getting a FE but I want to wait for a partner card. Especially with the overclocking ability these reviews are mentioning.

970 was such a sweet spot for price/performance that it basically made the 980 redundant.
The same could be said for 1070 vs 1080; the difference in performance will not be worth the difference in price, for most people.

Judging from those 1080 prices we will, and very fast actually. Not sure if it's a good idea to judge 1070 prices from 1080's though.

I have 2560x1600 display as well and 980TiOC isn't really enough for it so any GP104 card won't be enough either.

Yeah, given the price difference I'm trying to find a reason not to ditch my 1080 FTW order. It looks like the 1070 should handle VR and 1440p easily.

If you plan to stay on 1440p for a while, there's little reason not to ditch the 1080 order.
I think 4K for new games will stay out of reach until next year anyway, so use the money you save to buy next year's 1070

$70 less price for stock clocked models, better cooling, better performance from factory OC models which will cost close to what FE does.

I have my HD7950 clocked at the base clocks of a HD7970 and got within 5% margin of performance of an actual base HD7970.

With that said? What will be my performance differences if I decide to repeat history and clock a GTX 1070 to the same base clocks as a GTX 1080? Will I also get close to base GTX !080 performance as well?

You won't as 1070 is missing a whole 1/4th of full GP104 chip used in 1080. It's a salvage part based on GP104 chips which failed validation in some part of a chip.

There are some pretty decent cards that are a stone's throw away (MSRP) from the $599 floor (like the $609 evga) for the 1080 and that's early days with limited availability. I'm pretty sure that we will see sub-600 on the 1080 within 60 days from launch (with instant rebates, or indirectly via pack-ins).
Back to the 1070, it has higher volume, so I expect to see a similar adherence to the floor of the price range nVidia has set, unless something goes majorly wrong with availability.

That was also what I thought, maybe not in quite as colorful words.
Those games that are often shown as poster children for AMD DX12 performance seem to look pretty terrible when you see the frametime consistency rather than just average FPS. And ultimately, the former metric is at least as important for actual gameplay as the latter.
