I think he is kidding btw
Though, 1080s and 1070s got nothing on running SC (check out dat VRAM usage):
This card looks so damn good. I'd like to stick with AMD but I also need to upgrade my 7950 and this will be out soon and for a fair price. So tempted to try nvidia this time around lol
if they could get something very close to the 1070 for less that'd be pretty sweet. I just want a big upgrade from my 7950 in general.Feel the same. Granted, the Founders Edition is a rip-off, so we should all wait for AIB cards to drop. And we don't yet know when the $379 cards will be widely available. But, even taking that into account, the 1070 is making me salivate. Lol It's not easy but I'm planning on waiting until we have all the info on Polaris 10/480X before making a decision. Always prefer to support AMD whenever possible but they need to get some info out ASAP or a lot of people are going to buy a 1070 without even considering AMD.
Bear in mind, it appears Polaris 10 is targeting the $250-$300 price segment, so we could argue that they're not directly competing so no lost sales. But if Polaris performance is "good enough" for a lot of 1080p/1440p applications and it drops at, say, $279 (a full $100 cheaper than the 1070) I'm guessing a sizable chunk of buyers would consider the options before making a decision. If the 480X can match Fury X at, say, $279 and offer better efficiency that'd be mighty impressive even if its not directly competing with the 1070. I'm not sure if that's overly optimistic, but I think this is what AMD needs to really grab back some market share.
Not really, unless you need a new PC right now. There is absolutely zero sense in a getting a new system with the 970 now instead of waiting 1.5 months for the 1070, right?
Well the 1080 is what, 20% faster than the 1070. If the 1080 gets 60 fps you're probably looking at almost 50 with the 1070. Turn down a few settings and you're at 60.It's just that I've seen the 1440p benchmarks and I'm worried there'll be a significant enough drop to put me below 60 fps.
You must be looking at the wrong numbers, the 3D mark graphics score differential should be much higher than 2x.I am trying to compare my current Geforce 770 to the Geforce 1070.
It seems that in 3D Mark the performance gain is x2.0, whereas in some games (Witcher 3, The Division, GTA 5) it is more like x2.5-3.0. Why the difference?
Judging by 1080, about 4 weeks from now. Of course, this is also a function of the market situation. So when should we expect this card to actually cost $379?

$70 less price for stock clocked models, better cooling, better performance from factory OC models which will cost close to what FE does.

That was also what I thought, maybe not in quite as colorful words.
Those games that are often shown as poster children for AMD DX12 performance seem to look pretty terrible when you see the frametime consistency rather than just average FPS. And ultimately, the former metric is at least as important for actual gameplay as the latter.

IMO the 970 is where its at right now
1. Video games are gimped by console hardware right now.
2. 970 can run every game you throw at it with ease
3. you can probably pick up a used one for $150 from the people who are upgrading. Bang for your buck wise, this is a no brainer...
if my 2500k (4.5) / 6970 rig can handle DOOM just fine - then 1070/1080 is just overkill right now IMO

Tempted to upgrade from my 7970. What's the last we've heard from AMD about Polaris? I can see a ton of people that have been waiting jumping on a 1070. I'd think they'd want to announce something soon?

Yes, but most people who buy a videocard don't buy one to replace it in 6 months.
The 1070 is right now overkill, but wait a while and it becomes standard. PC requirements will start to climb, and in a year or so you'll see the 1070 in the "recommended" specs replacing the 970.
Or it's very possible that the AIB will be as expensive or more-so than the FE.
As a previous 780ti owner at the 970 launch and a 980ti owner right now, I'm getting a very familiar rush of emotions. I am officially salivating over the 1080ti now, at the very least.

I feel buying the 1070 without seeing Polaris 10 price and performance would be unwise to say the least.

If AMD had a card which was equal to 1070 in performance and lower in price, don't you think they would be telling everyone about it instead of hiding it under an NDA until June 29th? This is exactly what happened with the Fury X in case people forgot last year already.

AMD may reveal more concrete details on May 31, when the Computex livestream is set to begin at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
Cheers palSince people seems to miss the text I'll post a screenshot:

i already sold my 980ti 3 days before the reveal of the 1080 and 1070 for almost 600$ .Right now i am back on my R9 290x . i will wait for the 1070 normal price. this way i will get better performance and save money.
I am still debating if i should get this or the 1080. but as currently i am still rocking 2 1080P screens, I am not in rush to pay the premium 100$ price. if anything i think its a rip off.
Oh man oh man I can't wait. Got 15+ hrs of overtime too and I'm caught up on my bills... might just say F it and get a founders.
What's the min psu for this, 500w?
Truth be told I need to upgrade my whole rig but I want to see if I can get one last push out of my 3570k, Z77 3dh mobo and 550w psu!
Am I right in thinking that if I have a GTX 960 2g I can just switch for one of these bad boys and won't need to upgrade my power supply or anything?
In fact it should use less power??
I'm a n00b so I might be wrong :-/
AMD doesn't have squat unfortunately, if they did or at least had a card coming soon that was competitive with a 1070 for less they'd be shouting it from the roof tops, we'd be seeing "leaks" about it but we haven't really heard anything.I feel buying the 1070 without seeing Polaris 10 price and performance would be unwise to say the least.
