Ive seen so many people getting DOA products from Asus these days is be hesitant with even their boards.

I know Evga is fantastic, as is zotac, but MSI has become good now in reliability and customer service? That's shocking, but good to know. How is their software and build reliability. Haven't seen an alarming amount of complaints on their stuff like I did Asus.

What's the best way to score one of these cards day one on sale/preorder in the states? Some how I'm like the last to know. And when I was there for the Evga day ones their site screwed me because it crashed.

Probably. But it's better to see some reviews first as the coolers are different and it's hard to say if they'll provide the same or different noise levels just from looking at them.
 
So wait, when exactly are the non-FE versions of the 1070 going to be released?

That MSI Gaming X is looking mighty tempting... Will wait and see what the other companies have to offer though.

Thinking the same thing, their Twin Frozr cards are normally great, should go well with my MSI XPower Titanium Motherboard.
 
Selling my MSI 970 for the MSI 1070 as soon as it becomes avalable

Sold my 970 yesterday to a very nice GAF member, now I'm just itching to pull the trigger on a 1070 as soon as non-FE versions are available.

But now I'm stuck playing games on Intel HD 4000 graphics until then... :(
 
The reactions to that Gaming X review make me sad, since I know that one will cost more than the FE. I just want one with a backplate and custom cooler for less than the FE. Is that too much to ask?
 
I'm stiiiiill not sure about one of these. I own a 1440p Gsync monitor and currently game on a GTX 980. I know this will be an upgrade but I'm just not sure it's going to be the sort of mega upgrade which will encourage me to open my wallet...

The RX 480 isn't in competition with the GTX 1070 or 1080, all indications so far have it being a lower performance tier, capping out at around R9 390X/GTX 980 speeds. Their performance parts won't be launching until October at the earliest going by the current rumors, Nvidia isn't going to be touching these prices at least until then.

Exactly. Honestly, I don't think people with a 9XX card should feel the need to upgrade immediately. Wait and see how the partner cards shake out, whether there's a 1080ti coming etc etc. You're still sitting pretty with a 9XX card right now.

It's the little guys with 5/6/7 series cards who should be itching to jump on this one.

i felt like i was sort of in the same boat with my 970... decided to go ahead and upgrade so i could get a little oomph for VR. otherwise i'd feel like i'm pissing away money, kinda sorta
 
Can't wait for the non-FE cards to be readily available. My 760 needs an upgrade but I hate having to scramble to order before they go out of stock. I'll be going EVGA again. Have never had a problem with them.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, only I have a 660ti that I got when it first came out. It's fine for now, I can wait till demand of the 1070 calms down and games still run fine on my machine but I feel like it's time to upgrade.

I'm also going with EVGA again. It's a pretty solid card.

I will never understand how you guys can use Titan X's price as an argument when aftermarket 980 Tis are/were both faster and cheaper. It's such a weird argument and only serves to exaggerate value for no reason, considering that the 980 Ti wasn't exactly cheap either.

The Titan X is about 5% faster than the 980 Ti at base clocks, so it was the fastest card of last generation if you ignore overclocking, which isn't guaranteed and the vast majority of people do not do overclocking. The 1070 is faster than both. I'm not seeing the problem with talking about the ultra-boutique card, but fine. If you want to talk about the 980 Ti, you'll still have to be insane to claim the 1070 isn't an amazing value by outrunning a $650 980 Ti at a $380 base price.

I didn't ignore anything? Are you pretending that only 980 Ti had factory overclocked models and that 1070 and 1080 don't?

The 980Ti and Titan X are over a year old though, and I'd actually say they were both boutique* parts inflated to fit that niche (*relatively few people pay $700+ for a single, optional, computer component). Why are you amazed that a year later the same ~performance is ~half price? That is how the computing industry has operated since it's inception, you don't put a pin in 5 TFLOP's at $500, keep it there in perpetuity, and just increase the price for every additional TFLOP. Nobody with any experience gives a shit the 1070 is as fast as an X or Ti, it was expected. Rather, with the effective $120 price hike ($329 REF 970 to $449 FE 970), it should be significantly faster than both, not trading +/- 5% blows. Personally for the prices, I think the 1080 should have been an across the board 50% improvement and the 1070 should be in the 25-30% range.

It likely wont be. You should wait until the 980 isn't living up to your expectations and doing what you want it to do. 980 to 1080 would make more sense. But even then it wouldn't be worth it dollar wise.

The 980ti overclocks further than the 1070 though so will likely be quicker. Otherwise I as a 980ti owner would be buying one as a stop-gap while I wait for the 1080ti.

So how is instead of paying $1000 for certain performance you now paying less than half that not great value?

They had a 1070 at 2050 MHz and 980 Ti at 1455 MHz

In DX11 games both were basically tied in most cases, however the 1070 pulls ahead by a good margin in DX12 titles.

Sure, if you have a 980 Ti at 1500 MHz+ it will be faster in DX11 games, but that is not the typical OC for the card, just like 2.1 GHz+ isn't shaping up to be a typical OC for 1070/1080.
 
Did anyone else get a NowInStock Alert over a Zotac listing on Amazon going up? Damn near gave me a heart attack. I don't think it was every actually in stock though.

Yeah I am one of those in the 1500 club so I guess that is why. Either way, that review shows just how insanely good value the 1070 really is. I can't believe people are complaining about it, or it's price. In terms of how much more the 1080 costs it really is something. If you game at 1080p it will trounce anything, and if playing at 4K you will have to compromise settings on both the 1080 and the 1070 anyway, so I see no real point in going for the ridiculously expensive big brother card.

The reason I'm upgrading from my 970 is my 970 will continue to lose value. I can sell it for $250 or so now, buy the 1070 and have it hold its value until the 1080ti if that's a direction I want to go eventually. So it's $300 (give or take $100) for each upgrade instead of shelling out $700 at once.

The price will normalise, but not for another 2 to 3 weeks at least. And I'm tired of playing on my integrated graphics (built a new rig sans GPU last month).
 
How will these be released? Will they just pop up on various retailers? Should I expect to have a bunch of tabs ready to be refreshed tomorrow?
 
Looks like it'll either be an MSI or EVGA third party solution for me based on their excellent support. MSI already has a lot of options laid out but I haven't seen much EVGA news just yet so I haven't really decided on which one to go for.

If MSI it'll probably be the Armor card, I was thinking of the Sea Hawk as well but I don't think I want to bother with water cooling.

Btw the GTX970 i am running in X51 which came with the system is supposed to be 10,5" according to alienware? I think the problem with the 1070 is that is is to "high", length is not an issue.
