Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

I'm going to wait for RX 480 reviews before I lock in an order on one of these. The 480 could be perfect for me, as I'm still using a 1080p monitor but would like to have 8 GB of VRAM instead of my 970's measly 3.5 so I can use things like the Hyper settings in Mirror's Edge Catalyst for example.

(Also for the price of a 1070 I could buy an RX 480 and a FreeSync monitor/1440p monitor, so...)

The 980Ti is basically equivalent to the 1070 so that's a great deal considering the 1070 really starts at $420 for a decent one. The 1070s only advantage is that it has multiprojection available and could potentially increase performance by 2x in VR. If you don't or not going to use VR, the 980 Ti is just as good and potentially overclocks better.

Is this really true? The benchmarks I've seen show the 980ti about 15% less than the 1070. Sure you can try to OC the 980ti to match it, but you can also OC the 1070 to outpace it again.

MSI Gaming 1070 in stock at Ebuyer for a pretty reasonable price.

Got it. that's helpful, thanks. I figured I'd also be in for 90 day step up too if I really decided I want something else.

I also assume anything like the EVGA hybrid 1070 or MSI sea hawk would be coming in higher than $450?

Maybe a related question, but is there any way to throw a water cooler on the 980ti ftw?

Well I did exactly what you were considering and bought a 980 TI FTW instead. As far as I'm aware there isn't a simple solution for water cooling one of these. PCB isn't reference for starters.

I've been overclocking the crap out of mine since I got it yesterday and I'm hitting 1510Mhz boost in game (stable) which seems to be about the limit of these cards on air. At these speeds I understand the perf is roughly a 5-10% gain over an OC'd 1070 for current games. What you have to factor in mind though is where the performance sits for future games, and how much driver optimisations for Pascal also benefit Maxwell.

With the step-up programme though you can always switch to a 1080 later on. I've already registered my product in case.

That 1070 went back to Add to Cart just now, I added it, then it removed it from my cart, went back and it said Auto Notify. Are they adding like 1 card at a time to the database or something?

Couldn't decide between a Gigabyte G1 or a EVGA ACX. I'm running a EVGA 750Ti right now, so I'm more inclined to stay with EVGA. I also want a quiet card.

I'll probably go with EVGA unless there's something wrong that I don't know about. D:

So this is kind of driving at my concern. The node 605 is a small case, my 980 regularly runs around 80c (a PC gaming sin, I know) so the lower power draw and temps of the 1070 are really tempting. I'm guessing I wouldn't get to 1510mhz in my case, probably not even close. So then I wonder if that 980ti would even see any performance increase over the 1070? How are the 1070s over clocking so far? Well enough that it warrants an EVGA hybrid or MSI sea hawk? Or am I gonna be back to just high end air cooled?

E: thanks again for the continued insight

from the benchmarks I've seen from a reference 1070 oc compared to a MSI 980ti Gaming OC I would think it should be pretty even. I'm not sure how much headroom the non reference 1070's have for overclocking but it doesn't seem that much more than the reference cards.

Anybody's Gigabyte G1 1070 preorder with Amazon moved yet? Mine still says "We need a little more time to provide you with a good estimate."

Think I ordered about an hour after it went live, so don't expect to be front of queue...

Is it a safe guess that the $370-$400 price and availability won't be until July-August? I have my build designed and just waiting to get the GPU, but it seems the price gouging is insane currently.

I wouldn't say safe but base price models of 1080 are already being sold in Europe so I don't think 1070 is too far behind. The problem right now is that almost all custom cards are premium models that have always cost more than the most basic models so while some basic models are already available, it doesn't make sense to flood the market with those cards yet because the premium models have better profit margins and there's way more demand than supply.

When base price models do become available, you have to be quick to order one because the initial supply won't be any better with those cards than the current premium models.

I really wish newegg didn't charge tax in TN :(.

Is there any other stories with 1070 windforce or ACX in stock that doesn't charge tax here?

Was hoping NCIX would get them in soon.

Yes. By August and definitely September you'll be able to get them for the real price and likely without much delay.

Don't know man, I'm in the exact same boat. TN here as well.

B&H doesn't charge tax, but I don't think they've had anything other than FE cards in stock, and they go fast.

$429 is tempting but it shouldn't be. I'm really torn between waiting until August or just ponying up the extra 50 bucks. On the one hand I'm poor but on the other, money comes and goes.

I pulled the trigger on this just because it's in stock. But how's this compare to the others available? Should I cancel and wait a bit?

It's a good card. Slightly larger than the EVGA SC. Also has a larger OC? Not sure. I personally went with EVGA for their customer service but this is a fantastic deal at $429.99

I wouldn't cancel it. If the reviews I've seen of the 1080 from Gigabyte are anything to go by, it's basically the same performance as the Founder's Edition but without the noise or temperature problems. If anything, you'll get a framerate 1-2 frames higher than the Founder's would have gotten you, but the performance is basically the same since it's based on the reference PCB.

I just purchased it and I forgot to use my Newegg.com gift card ugh. I already called customer support and they can't edit the order??? UGH. Anyone want it for $45 Paypal? I have the listing in the B/S/T thread as well, you can see my feedback in the feedback thread.

edit: This is annoying b/c on Amazon you could do this easily.

I'm on a struggling 2GB ASUS GTX 770 DCU2 that I got used on ebay for like $290 march 2014.

I'd like to move up to a 1070 but is it feasible to pay over 379 for the 1070 performance, how much of an increase can i expect over my 770?

Check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epHr7Z_6nLo&t=2m1s

You'd get double your current framerate or more, assuming you don't have a terrible CPU.
dang, slightly more than double my framerates? sweet!

I've got a 6 year old Phenom2 x4 940 at 3.0GHz stock (equivalent to a Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 stock). Is that good enough to get me at least to 60fps max/near max settings on most previous games, like watch_dogs and back?

After thinking about it a bit more, I think I'm still going to roll with MSI. That cooler is just so quiet that it's hard to go back to anything else.

edit: At least based on the 1080 reviews anyway.

Need a new computer. What do you guys think of this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpo...ack-blue/5374307.p?id=bb5374307&skuId=5374307

It's running a 1070 which should be enough for 1080p right?

That PC will be more than enough for 1080p. I'm assuming you've considered building your own before looking into pre-builts?

Probably. Do think about upgrading your CPU soon though, there's a pretty massive disparity between the power of an X4 940 and a GTX 1070.

ive thought about it for some time now. I'm on an old 2006 mobo, the ASUS Crosshair (the original one) its an AM2/AM2+ mobo that actually only officially supports the original Phenom 1 quad cores, but it supports this x4940BlackEdition because of a custom bios, this is the highest CPU my old-ass mobo supports lol.

If I were to upgrade my CPU id have to buy a whole new mobo, so basically a new rig. At that point id go for a Mini-ITX Skylake build.

Anyone know the best way to get a 1070? Having trouble finding one in stock anywhere, despite being subbed to a bunch of manufacturer's sites...

https://www.nowinstock.net/computers/videocards/nvidia/gtx1070/

Go to that link, click on the little red square to the right of the text "In Stock Alarm" at the top of the page to make it so a beeping sound will play when the 1070 is in stock somewhere, and continue about your day with that page open. When the beeping comes, try to order one within 10 minutes as they have been selling out super fast, and there you go.
