Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 Review Thread

FedEx somehow delivered this to me at 9:40AM! I was planning on sitting around impatiently until like 3PM!

Can't wait to swap out my GTX 470 with this!

So I grabbed one of the Gigabyte G1 cards while it was in stock on Newegg yesterday. Of course, now the Asus ROG Strix (which was my first choice) is available, in all of it's upclocked glory. In a characteristic continuation of my comedy of errors, I paid for the rush processing or whatever, so now my order can't be changed or cancelled. Realistically, is the difference in clock speed likely to amount to much that can't be made up through overclocking? I never bothered to OC my 970.

The difference between vendors is very minimal when it comes to performance. What you might regret though is missing out on the Asus DCUIII epic cooling. Them sweet 0db fans and the thing's got like a billion heatpipes which will help it run chill as a cucumber.

Yeah, my 970 is an Asus and it's a beautiful thing. Oh well. -_-

At least I saved $40.

I'm making a similar jump from a 5850.

Rest of the machine I just built in April, this is the last piece.

Yeah but the card is more or less a triple slot design, I'm worried the HDD cage might get in the way

I think the cage might be about level with the fourth slot, leaving enough space for a 2.5 slot card. It's not possible to be 100% sure without having the case though.

Just tried to DSR Fallout 4 at 2715 x 1527 with FXAA. Fps immediately dropped into the 40's. Might try DOOM later, and then maybe try it through the control panel.

Edit:... and this is pretty much exactly what the Nvidia tweak guide said would happen, (on a 980ti). Guess I'm gonna have to go into the ini tweaks or whatever to get more out of this card for Fallout 4.

I want to make the jump from my 570's to this but we are getting hosed in Japan on prices. Cant find any 1070's less than $600. 1080's are all $1,000+.

I got the MSI Twinfrozer. I don't really get OC mode with the MSI Gaming App software though. Dinking around in Witcher 3, I completed a quest and I got a blue screen after a lengthy freeze once I turned it on. Also very little I do in that software seems to do anythign. I can make the fans run really fast for a while, and I can set the LED's until... I close the app. Whoo.

Everything's stable in gaming mode. So fine I guess. Running Witcher 3 with everything + hairworks and geting 60+fps is rather nice as it is.

I have that exact lian li case. That card should fit, but it will extend into the negative space above the HD cage so long as you use the first pcie slot, and that you don't have any drive up there that might obstruct it (such as a DVD drive).

That card is massive though. I just measured the inside of the case because I just ordered a gigabyte g1 1070 which is 286 mm, and it looks like it will just fit without being a problem. 325mm is a massive card, but again should fit aa long as there is no drive in the way.

Edit: just saw you said it's a triple slot card. If it indeed is, it will NOT fit. 12 inches max, as the 3rd slot will hit the hd cage. That card is over 12.

It's more like 2.5 slot.

Serious talk.

Titan X = $1000
980 Ti = $650
Titan X2 = $1199 (FE $1299) New manufacturing process, new memory HBM2.
1080 Ti = $850 (FE $950), decent AIB cooler = strix, G1, armor = $899

That 1080 Ti is a bargain!

Slight correction: Unless something changes, all Titans (other than a couple of rare exceptions) are Founder's Editions. Unless Nvidia starts allowing custom cards for the next Titan, it won't end up like that.

Ah yeah you're right. Interesting that the Titan X is a reference design, but you can get custom 980 Ti designs. Surely that makes the 980 Ti faster as long as the cooling is good (aside from the lower amount of memory).

Anyway slight OT: I just realised its going to take an extra week shipping for my 1070, there's two days public holiday here where I live (wed, thurs) plus 3 day weekend, plus backlog mail deliveries. Sooooooooooooo CRAP!

Thanks for the responses, I've ordered it anyway, if worst comes to worst I'll be breaking out the dremel as Diehard suggested.

Was able to snag a pre order for the Gigabyte G1 1070 on amazon.

For anyone who has this card, what do you think? I don't really want to use the gigabyte software, so will the card boost to the advertised speeds of the gaming and OC modes without it? I saw owners on reddit saying it was doing close to 2000 mhz boost out of the box.

Also read mixed reviews on coil whine. I always run a 60fps rivatuner cap, so hopefully it will be a non issue?

I'm a loyal evga buyer and wanted the SC ACX 3.0, but got sick of waiting and jumped on the G1. Right choice?

Been saving up for a 1070 literally for months, finally decided to bite yesterday when I saw my local MicroCenter had some MSI variants in stock for $399. It's the Aero 8G OC which means it has the mediocre blower cooler, but having put it through some paces, I don't notice much noise from it so I'm happy enough.

I went from a 760 to this and I'm completely amazed at what it can do with The Witcher 3. Solid 60fps at 1080p on max settings all day. I also threw a heavily modded Skyrim install at it that used to run 20-25fps on my 760 and again, solid 60 (frame limited).

Can't wait to give Doom a try next. And then Deus Ex later this summer!
