With only a casual interest in PC gaming, I've been waiting on these new cards to upgrade from my GTX 970. I'm still not sure I see the incentive. Ray tracing looks impressive from a technological standpoint, but I'm not so sure how much of a difference it'll make from a practical point of view or what kind of performance hit it'll mean on mid-level 2070 cards... or if it's even supported by a good number of games in the near future.

I had enough Dell reward points to buy an Aurora R7 so this weekend I bought one with an 8700k, liquid cooled cpu, 16GB 2666 Ram, 850w PSU, and a 1070ti
Not a hardcore PC gamer but it still freaks me out that they just announced a refresh RIGHT after I place my order.
Would I be better off cancelling my order right now while I can and then waiting a couple months to get the refreshed model or keeping my current order and upgrading in 2-3 years with a new CPU/GPU if possible?
I hate when stuff like this happens haha … I thought it might take longer for Dell to implement these new cards for some reason :/

But reading almost anywhere had rumors of new shit coming soon? I don't understand being surprised when it has been talked about and leaked a ton over the last few weeks. Might want to add RPS or any other PC game news source to your daily reads not only for tech but for under the radar pc games since steam is a shitshow of games with no indication if they are really good or not.
Personally if there are games you want to play now then I would get the one you got and go with it. I assume it would kick ass into the next few years at least. It's going to take time for companies to start catering to this new tech and really utilize it so having a single step back shouldn't hurt much. If you aren't in a rush I would stop that order and wait for this new stuff to come out. The build you listed sounds like it would take a card swap in the future if you notice the card isn't up to snuff sooner than later.
What brand is the card you are getting? If it's EVGA then you can get on that step up program and move to a better one pretty soon. Right now its hard to say for sure since there is a bunch of fuzzy math and odd numbers out there but no real world comparisons that I have seen. Maybe there is and someone could link them.

Cancel it or return it within the return period for free. Dell usually announces the system refreshes near the street launch date.

I'm impressed, but I will hold onto my GTX1080 for a couple of more years. I'm going to wait until many more games feature hybrid ray tracing as standard. Also, I want to see what AMD and Intel officially do with Microsoft's DXR.

Yea, mine too, but you get what you pay for in most instances I firmly believe.
Supply and demand... If you had a lemonade stand where you made pints for $1 but sold them for $5 and sold out daily, would you continue to take your nice profit and be happy or would you charge $7 (and continue to sell out)? Would you leave your current job for one that paid double to do the same thing? They're not our friends, they're a business, and if we'd charge as much for something we could why hate them for it?

After reading that most of the performance bump is actually just for raytracing I'll pass. Supporting a new tech right away (and for these prices!!) is never a good idea as this usually means the cards will be outdated faster than usual. Top it off with the fact that new consoles releases are upcoming and you get one more confirmation that these cards will not max out games for a long time.
Hope the minions jump on these cards quick though, retailers clear their 1080ti stock and I can grab one of those for a cheap price. Then I'll stick with it 2-3 years until the new consoles are out, RT is more common and Intel is in the business as well.

Yeahhhh, i like being on the bleeding edge of tech and computers in general but Nvidia must be smoking some really fucked up shit if they think i am shelling out 1200+ dollars for the 2080Ti. I will wait for the next card they release on 7NM and see if they have come to their senses about trying to rip people off.

Why would you buy a new GPU every year? I had my last one for 4 years and many people keep them for a lot longer than that.
