Instead of releasing a 1070 they are just going to drop the price of 980ti to 970 price.

Performance tests are cool if you aren't running anything on the game thread. Still, GPU is usually the bottleneck. I like it.

One single model = 90fps.

Why should we feel impressed, again? It's ONE model. Eery card should run that thing fine.

He implied this was complex model. There could be alot of plygons and expensive lighting happening.

In other words, in an actual game this thing would be much more optimized.

Well that's basically a CGI quality model

But the part they were trying to show off wasn't the FPS alone, it was the fact that the single pass rendering ups the FPS by ~50%. Much more efficient.

$549? I can see a bump to $600 max. Everyone talking $1000 is crazy.

I think I sort of agree. I remember the 980 I think, and the 970 in particular, being monsters for their prices when they released. I do think that prices will continue to creep up. I wouldn't be surprised at 750-800.

600 dollars though, I'd be totally happy with that and happy to be wrong, lol.

I've not been too invested in VR. Why is 90fps "the thing"?
90fps is the minimum framerate needed for VR to give a feel of really being somewhere else, according to Oculus. It is the minimum framerate needed for a VR game to be sold on the Oculus store, and the Oculus Rift display refreshes at 90hz.

What did he do exactly tho, we saw slides ahead? What did they have?

He didn't do shit, the presenter asked him to go back to the "slide", and Tom was like "wtf which slide?" and he kept telling him to back to the SLIDE, increasing in anger each time. Then he said wait a minute and then screamed for tom (on mic, on accident) and then it got quiet for a little bit and they went back several slides.

This thing is stupid quick! What happened to 25% performance over the 980Ti :D
That came from the salty 980Ti guys. They should want tech to get better. Not hold onto the past.

What's interesting is that this is basically a hardware-based extension of the viewport-morphing which already occurs in the software drivers for the Rift and Vive. So essentially which it's interesting that we can now have 16-monitor surround, the big deal is that it basically gives you VR projection for free instead of right now where it requires CPU and GPU resources.
It's not really that the reprojection requires computation time as much as that actually rendering the correct views in the first place allows you to get much closer to 1:1 pixel mapping and reduces a lot of wasted effort, without the overhead of alternative solutions to this issue on older hardware (such as the checkerboard masking Valve recently presented).

It's really awesome.
