NYTIMES - Do We Really Hate Anne Hathaway?

I didn't even know she was hated, I like what I've seen of her

It's almost as if this controversy was created mostly out of thin air to fill empty pages in the Lifestyle section of the New York Times.

It is interesting that the section actually named "life" is so totally devoid of the subject. If it simply renamed itself "pop culture" I'd find the section less onerous. I don't mind silly fluff as long as it is aware of what it is.

I'm not even going to google that.

But Jennifer Lawrence staged that stumbling thing...

She was a good Catwoman, which is surprising because Nolan usually has absolute shit female characters. Can't ever hate her on the basis of that.

She's just a drama nerd all grown up. She comes across as trying a little too hard to be funny, and then gets a little uncomfortably overacty. Clearly she doesn't mind though since it seems to be working for her.

Monster babe though.

It's not her looks that people hate, it's her faux humbleness that's overly apparent when giving acceptance speeches. She thanks a dead poet for inspiring the play Les Mis is based on for fuck's sake.

i dont have an issue with her, dont really know her enough to say I hate her

She a good actress and she hasnt done anything terribly ...terrible, so.

None of this hate makes any sense. She hasn't done really anything controversial. Haters just gotta hate, I guess. lol

Alison Brie comes of like that in real life to me but I don't hate for that.

This is a stupid reason to hate someone. And coming from NYT out of all places.

I don't really keep up with her (outside of gifs and quotes and shit I see on tumblr) but she comes across as a pretty genuinely nice person all the time. I don't understand why folks hate her and think she's fake. Weird!

I'd be more embarrassed about wasting the time necessary to develop an opinion about Anne Hathaway in the first place.

She has done some decent stuff, I just watched that movie One Day which she wasn't that bad in even though most people didn't like it. She has some weird facial expressions on and off screen maybe that is off-putting to some, my brother in law says she is ugly, I don't agree. Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress so it's a bit unfair to compare, but look at something like that small movie The Burning Plain which was not a great movie, but such a young Lawrence does good stuff in it. I didn't have that much a problem with Hathaway's performance as Fantine, but it was a weak year in that category, the over directing with the closes ups, the pans/zooms & cuts was a problem.

I know why. Her camera/fake smile appears way too big for her head.

People hate her because they can't figure out why this seemingly pretty girl leaves such an odd impression on their subconscious facial recognition departments. I don't hate her.

"It" actresses always seem to get more hate than their male counterparts. Jennifer Lawrence will get it next.

JLaw may be the darling now, but she'll just get hate later on as well.

She already is, at least on GAF. And you can see the vitriol over Lena Dunham as well. I personally like Hathaway, especially after that interview with Matt Lauer. I can't think of any male actor who gets so much shit for so little.

I don't think Hathaway is particularly hated on GAF.

But in the general public, I think it's primarily coming from other women. At the risk of stereotyping the entire gender, women can be really vicious to each other - and in a different, more personal way from how men are mean to each other.

Care to link me to that interview? I'm a fan of hers since Love and Other Drugs, which is where I learned that Jake Gyllenhal can also act.

Plus she has grrrrrrrrrrrreat boobs.

Seriously though, she's a good actor and that's why I watch her movies and don't care much about her private life.

It was after her "wardrobe malfunction" and I just liked the way she responded. I really never watched the entire thing because I don't like Matt Lauer. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yruIL5lVGE4

from scanning this thread, the assumption is that people hate on Hathaway because she puts a lot of effort into how she presents herself and appears too perfect/doesn't exhibit any flaws/quirks that makes it easier for the common woman to identify with her? Whereas Jennifer Lawrence stumbling on some steps endeared her to the nation/world?

Then the solution is obviously for Hathaway to fuck up somehow. What sort of fuckup would be required to counter-weigh all this animosity? Busted in an ATF sting buying full autos? The second amendment is real in right now.

I've always had a thing for Anne Hathaway, never understood the hate to be honest. Judging from a few interviews I've read and seen, she's not the stuck up prude people want to make her out to be.

NYT: "Do we really hate Anne Hathaway?"

A: Yes, because she is an insincere husk of real person trying to fake smile her way to popularity and respect. Jennifer Lawrence is her protege in spirit, begging people to love her because she's so "normal," never mind the fact she's already been paid more than most people make in their entire lives.
