Two of my favorite Genesis/Sega CD Games and Characters:

One of the most obscure characters I remember (that few others I talk to seem to) is the main character in SmartBall for SNES (who was a person that got turned into a ball):

aaaaaah natasha. one of my first gaming experiences where how i played directly affected a npc's attitude towards me. play nice with her and she was an angel offering tips between races and steering clear of you during a race - but piss her off and she would be out to get you at every step of the way. even her portrait changed to reflect her feelings towards you. so cool back in the day and one of the reasons (of many) the game was so special.


EA, revive one of your best franchises, please!

I came to post Natasha; felt the same fucking way about her. Another character who popped in my head was Buzz from Pit Fighter; this picture speaks volumes.

The baby Upa from Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa. It's actually a pretty fun NES game with cool levels and mechanics.

I recognize Clockwork Knight, completely forgot about Super Solver :O

That was way back in the day for me.

Man, I used to mess with Treasure MathStorm! quite a bit. Never did bother to completely collect everything - the idea of having to go up the mountain a good 40+ times seemed a bit too monotonous...

Really, guys?

In all fairness in the PS1/Early PS2 era. Characters from the PSX games (especially VII's) were really hogging the limelight. VI was popular enough, but for the most part, as far as Square and a lot of fans were concerned, FFs before VII didn't exist.

I've always loved Rydia. Favorite FF Female hands down. I credit my love of emerald green to her.

Anyway, I'd say two obscure FF characters I'd mention.

Leila From FFII. A prototype Faris. I really dig her design.


And Reis Dular from FFT. Really wished we could've gotten more from her. She was a great character and not stupidly overpowered.


Otherwise I'd say this guy:

I'm surprised Capcom hasn't tried rebooting this franchise yet. Not that I WANT them to, given their current state. Ity just seems like a given with all their western development.

Papahl - Link's Awakening

His dialog is so charming, which was actually the case for a lot of the characters in the game. He is my favorite side character though.


Morgan - Suikoden

I was always fascinated with this fighter being blind, and he had this likable noble quality about him, so I kept him in my party a lot.


Dwarf Elder - Suikoden

This game really is packed with memorable characters, but the Dwarf Elder is also obscure enough to mention here. I can't put my finger on what made his character so nongeneric and unsettling, but he really left an impression.

The rival team from Wild Arms 3. Maya Schrödinger especially (yes, I got the joke with her cat), as she has the powers to become any character she reads about. And she has a huge gatling.

I JUST came to post this. I had a picture, about the same size as this one, that I cut out of an EGM when I was 11 or 12. She was my first super nerdy fictional character crush and I had no idea what she was about, just really liked this picture.

The first time I ever I saw some anime I was like "oh wow, that's the same art style from El Viento!"
