Office building people: Do you wear shorts to work?

Personally, I think it should depend on the climate. I prefer function over style when it comes to clothing, I hate how dress codes are enforced despite being less than ideal for certain climates.

I work on the 16th floor of an office. I wear cut offs, no shoes and cut off sleeveless shirts to work all the time.

I also work in video games..so...

I used to during the summer at an old company. Then some girl decided to wear torn booty cutter shorts to the office, and got that privilege removed for all of us.

Eh, I do, but while I work in an office building, I'm in the technical area and nobody here gives a shit.

Be one of these really cool cats op

I can't believe the thing that triggers me with this is the long socks

ankle-length/no socks with shorts assholes

My job has where you can wear jeans but not Jean shorts, you can wear khaki shorts.. Makes no sense, but OK.

Work for an IT firm that's pretty casual. But the limit has always been jeans and sneakers.

I'm a proponent of clean, solid colored golf shorts in the office. I live in Florida so it's hot AF outside 80% of the year. We also aren't client facing so our external image is the same regardless.

To me, if you're a professional adult that can make good choices, one of those decisions is to be able to dress comfortably yet appropriately for your position. Manager discretion should play a large role in that as well. If you work in person with a client, yes, dress in business casual. But if you work in an office with only your coworkers, and are able to maintain a clean, productive atmosphere, I don't think wearing shorts is going to ruin that.

The photo is full of triggers lol. All it's really missing is a spider, some nice circles closely packed in somewhere for the Trypophobics and a little speech bubble saying "I don't tip".

I'm very jealous of these perpetually cold office bldgs everyone else apparently works in. Everywhere I've ever worked has been uncomfortably warm, even in the winter, but I typically run hot anyway.

We can't wear shorts which is super annoying in the summer because it gets so hot. The women can wear dresses, skirts, capris, basically anything they want except shorts.

I wouldn't do it. I live in hot-ass Bangkok and I still don't wear shorts outside. You look like a giant child. You're at work, presumably a professional, you should dress like it. There are plenty of light fabric pants that keep you cool in the summer. Shorts aren't necessary. Dress like the money you want to make, and all that.

Yup. I wear shorts every chance I get if the temp is > 60 degrees. The only exception is if I'm at a client's site. Then I need to look "professional" and make a good "impression" and project a good "perception" on the client.

No.

We don't have the option anymore and I'm glad because I do believe in looking professional for work.

Although sometimes I wish we could, because my office is DREADFUL at temperature regulation and there are some days where I can do without being sat in stuffy suit trousers for 8 hours.

Yep. Corporate policy at my place is shorts and sandals are allowed from shortly before Memorial Day until slightly after Labor Day, and I take full advantage of the shorts policy.

My last job was in a tall office building with 3 companies who had very different dress codes. So you could be on an elevator and usually quickly tell who was going to what floor. The company on the top floors was very formal and those people were mostly in suits. My company had a business casual policy so people in slacks and button-up shirts were mostly us. The other company was iD Software, and you knew those people because they were wearing t-shirts, shorts, and sandals.

Hell no. Dude shorts have gotten uncomfortably short lately, and if you're walking around with pants that cut above the knee you're going to make things awkward.

Sure, as long as I do my job my boss doesn't give a fuck how I look.

Just like it should be.

Or you can just wear normal shorts?

You don't have to follow every fashion trend.

Most likely no, unless your work culture has a VERY casual dress code. Like, hipster startup culture or something.

Hm, I'm in favor of being able to wear jeans and t-shirts in offices but shorts seem odd to me for some reason. Shorts aren't really incredibly common around here to begin with though, maybe in warmer climates?

Depends on the office; work for a big energy company in the UK and we have a casual dress policy these days (with restrictions; modernised fairly recently from having to wear shirt and trousers) as long as you're not wearing super silly shorts it's all good. Depends on the dress code however.

Building really doesn't have anything to do w/ it, should ask question based on your company/industry. I'm a lawyer so I have to wear suit every day, shorts would be awesome but not gonna happen anytime soon in this industry.

On the one hand, shorts are ugly so I wouldn't wear them. On the other, I kinda wish walking around in speedos was socially acceptable so I could flaunt my thighs more often

Very surprised to see that NeoGAF is so conservative with forms of dress lol

Same.

I'd rather work with someone in scraggy jeans and a t-shirt who was great at their job than someone in a suit who was shit at it. I can say this as its actually something I have to deal with at work lol.

Eh many around here believe that cargo shorts are the devil..or men shouldn't wear shorts at all..for reasons that are beyond me.

Maybe you just need to set an example!

I wear jeans everyday to work in a high rise office building, but even as casual as this place is. T-shirts are standard, no way I would wear shorts. Just me though I see plenty of people do it.

I will rock shorts from late spring to early fall all week at work, pants are the devil. The majority of my clients aren't located in the same location as me so no one ever really knows. Though my one client here gives me a hard time about wearing shorts and Birkenstock's all the time, but he grew up in the organization wearing a suit everyday and we get along great.

Granted we aren't talking like athletic shorts, and I either pair it with a polo or dress shirt so it still looks somewhat professional.
