Phil Hughes didn't shut down the Rangers - he fscking perfected them for 6.1 innings. If he completed the no-no, he'd have joined about 17 people in the 100+ year history of the sport to do that. You have to be lucky, yes...but you've gotta be three times as good to pull that shit off in this age of baseball.

He did so at 20 years old, with only 2-3 starts in AAA to his name.
He did so with the kind of pitching skill and stuff that major leaguers in their prime home to have one day.
He did so effortlessly, at that.
S

Talk about putting the cart before the horse, I am sure there are MANY pitchers that have had a perfect game through 6 innings.

Also, Jaret Wright at 21 years old defeated one of the greatest Yankee teams of all time TWICE in the playoffs. How did he turn out?

I'm going to assume Allison Stoke is a Dodgers fan so I'll bury this here rather than starting a new topic.. 18 and will be starting at CAL in the fall. Wow.

Go err Dodgers!

Have you read Alyssa Milano's Dodger blog? She actually kind of knows what she's talking about.

It's insane that nine teams passed on him as is. A guy throws triple digit heat, massive curveball, utterly dominated the college opposition, throwing heavy innings for years with no signs of injury? There were NINE PLAYERS in the draft that looked more appealing than that?

He played in the Pac 10 which has been kind of a weak league for a few years. He has slightly goofy mechanics. And the number one kicker: He's short, like 5'9".

Major league teams love height on pitchers.

Also King Felix was pushed back a couple days, he will be starting the 9th against Detroit instead of this weekend against the Yankees.

Dream on, she's from Newport Beach. (Or at least she went to high school there.)

I read a couple of posts the other day and thought the same thing.

I don't know where that is in the state, but she should be a Dodgers fan!

I don't see how it is too soon, but ok. He could pitch this weekend probably so another 5 days isn't a big deal.

Because he's too good to risk bringing him back this soon. When a guy is as talented as Felix is, you should err WELL on the side of caution. It's not like this is while they're struggling to make the playoffs a la Liriano last year (which was still a dumb move).

I am sure there are many pitchers that have had a perfecto through 6, but I'm not sure there are many who were 20 years old and in their first or second start out of the minors doing it. I will admit I am probably a little overexcited about the guy, though; it's a pretty big hype train.

Also, @ bluemax:

...if we don't get the King, does that mean we might get Weaver the Elder?
BATTING PRACTICE CONFIRMED.

You're being a dick. You literally stated it wasn't hard to shut down the Rangers. um okay.

Duh, it's really easy to shut down an entire MLB roster for 6+ innings!

Seriously, are you retarded?

A 20 year old rookie, who is at worst the #2 pitching prospect in all of baseball, no hit a team into the 7th inning in his SECOND big league start, and was only removed because of injury.

Yeah, that happens everyday. God forbid people give him credit and are upset he had to leave. You're right.

Stop posting.

L.A. metro is defined as Los Angeles County and Orange County, numb nuts. :)

I'm just teasing the Angels for being bitches and taking our name.. you can't honestly think it was an appropriate name change, can you?

What, exactly, was a dumb move? Bringing Liriano back when both he and the team doctors felt that he was healed and ready to come back and pitch?

You mean they weren't always the Los Angeles Angels presented by Anaheim? :lol

Tough to say.

On the one hand their name actually makes sense now (Angeles = Angels en español for you pinche Anglos) and it reconnects them with the PCL team and its history they were the heirs to. It also doesn't hurt that Arte's making mad money from the new television contract (which he isn't spending on a bat, lolz).

On the other hand I liked having Anaheim as the focal point of the name because it made the city known globally, which is ****ing hilarious if you'd ever spent much time there. Thanks to the Ducks people in Finland know where it is. :lol

They are erring on the side of caution, they have been his whole career. He threw in the bullpen, said it hurt to throw his change up still so they pushed him back. I'm sure they'll evaluate him again before the 9th and if he is still hurt they'll push him back again.

If he's not hurt he'll pitch. Sitting him for a month when he's healthy will just make him mad and rusty.

Weaver the suckier seems to be confirmed for that spot now. This is honestly probably his last chance. If he doesn't make it at least 5 innings he is done. I'd hope they'd try and stretch Morrow out if Weaver bombs, but it seems they are Sorianoing Morrow and making him a set up guy for life.

Looks like you guys will be running Igawa out on the mound. And it'll be nationally televised. Fun times.

I'm surprised Grady let him go another inning. Man, he has been dominant this year.. this is the guy we traded for! Good to see Raffy get to 2nd on the error -- come on Juan!

Sweet! Time to steal 2nd and let NOMAH knock him in.

Breaking news: Marty Miller fired

The Yankees have fired “director of performance enhancement” Marty Miller.

A series of injuries, the latest coming last night when Phil Hughes tore his left hamstring, led to the ouster of Miller, who joined the team this season.

Several players had questioned Miller’s methods and his lack of experience in professional baseball.

More on this as it develops. Brian Cashman is expected to discuss the situation later this afternoon.

Adrian Beltre walks on 4 low and away fastballs, so what does Jose Vidro do? Swings at the first one he sees and grounds out. That my friends is a True Mariner!

As long as he doesn't turn into another Ryan Anderson, they can do whatever they want with Felix.

Ryan Anderson never made it to the bigs. Plus he had shoulder problems, this was an elbow issue.

What the hell are you doing Saito?

SAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMYY DOES IT AGAIN! It was all pitching today! Insurance run really proved to be the game winner.

Yesssh Vin Scully just said the Dodgers scored a total of 5 runs in the series and they still won it! :lol

Hey I just got home and I'm looking at the Marlins @ Mets. I was reading that Anibal Sanchez got injured? What was it?
David Wright lined what should have been a basehit through the middle. Problem was Sanchez's leg was in the way. Ball richoeted all the way to the first baseman for the out. Sanchez pitched for 2 more innings.

BTW on the Hughes hype let's calm down a bit there. John Maine himself pitched like 30 scoreless innings last year as a rookie and he's not even in the Top Ten of pitching rooks last year. Now, Hughes is a top talent and he'll be very good but I'm not saying he'll dominate the world like you Yankee fans are saying. One start does not make him The Annointed One, hell one good rookie season sometimes doesn't. Good Lord ... You wanna crown him, THEN CROWN HIM!!

Missed the Putz inning cause I was fixing someones email, but another win! 2 games over .500 and a step closer to first. Putz still has me a bit worried, and the offense is still ass but at least we keep winning.

Tomorrow a chance for another sweep, of a 1 game series versus the BoSox. Ho Bag versus Dice-K!
