Now, how much of that is pure Utley-hate? I know, know, that I shouldn't quit on him this early in the season, as he's been a pure fantasy beast, but damn if Johnson doesn't look tasty right now (plus, I'm ashamed to say, I dropped Kelly a couple weeks ago right before he got hot, and I really don't want to have to give up Utley to get him back).

I do, however, have Shane Victorino on my team ("The Smilin' Hawaiian"), and am about to add Ryan Theriot and J.J. Hardy as well (the only good thing to come out of Phil Hughes' injury).

EDIT:

How official is that?
Well, since you had Kelly and dropped him I don't know, that's gotta hurt. :lol

But, since you had Hughes and he just went down I think it would be a good deal to take a minor downgrade in the power categories for 2b and pick up another serviceable starter.

Well, first I'm going to see if he goes for this: Miguel Cabrera and Chase Utley for A-Rod and K-John. Let's see what he does.

Ha- you got the still-bad R. Ortiz. Rick Anderson is a miracle worker, let me tell you.

EDIT: Oh hell yeah. My guy, Matt Holliday, with a bases-loaded triple.

Another game where the offense gets off to a great start and then just shuts down. That's like 5-6 of the losses right there. I swear to god that if we had an extra $20 million to play with we could quite possibly undefeated right now.

Can I just vent here for a second? The Yankees can't catch a break. Things were finally looking good tonight, the way Hughes was pitching was lifting up the whole team's morale.

AND THEN HE GETS INJURED.

The blame goes on the new Yankees strength and conditioning coaches. We can't play one game without a player getting injured, this is BOGUS.

This year is like watching a boxer fight with no arms.

Sad.

Four hamstring injuries. Apparently the new coaches de-emphasized running as a way to build leg strength and are instead pushing lunges and assorted activities. Which are all well and good, but apparently their increased difficulty has led a few players to abandon stretching...

Not that Hughes is probably one of those players, but think about it. He's so young...he shouldn't be in the position where he suffers severe hamstring problems. He was pitching a GEM tonight.

He'll be back in 2 months to make the league his bitch. Just like JOHN ROMERO.

Over the winter, Cashman got rid of Jeff Mangold, the Yanks' strength and conditioning coach for the previous nine seasons, and hired Marty Miller, who served as a minor league trainer for the Expos from 1995-97, to serve in the newly created position of director of performance enhancement.

(...)

"Marty isn't a baseball guy like Mangold was," said one player, speaking on the condition of anonymity. "Marty has been given a lot of pull, and I think he's a little too gung-ho right now."

(...)

"Right off the bat, (Miller has) got a bad rap," said the player, who also called the team's current pregame stretch routine inadequate. "Pitchers and catchers out there not stretching their arms? Their thing is that the active stretch gets everything stretched out, but that's garbage."

Neither Miller nor Cavalea is permitted to speak with reporters, though Miller did an interview last week with the Palm Beach Post, his hometown paper.

"I've been able to come in here and really kind of change this whole department around," Miller told the paper.

(...)

"They've done a phenomenal job making the weight room nice," the player said. "Aesthetically it looks great, but functionally, there's nothing in there. You walk in there and there's four of the same machine and a bunch of empty space. What do you expect us to do in there?"

I have a Hughes avatar and shit all ready to go. Six weeks. :(

HMMM who could have said that.....Aesthetically...hmmm.....perhaps it was....MIKE MUSSINA?

Hey Dodgers, Opportunities Opportunities Opportunities Opportunities Opportunities!

=X Small Ball sucks donkey dick.

Meh I can't believe we lost that game. With Zambrano and McGowan pitching in this series we are probably going to get swept.

And Tim Lincecum moves one step closer to his future are the greatest pitcher of all time.

His stats this year are just absurd so far

31.0 IP, 1 ER (0.29 ERA), 12 H, 11 BB, and 46 K (that's a 13.4 K/9IP).

edit: Apparently they found some weed in a small tin in what was left of Josh Hancock's truck. The story is suppose to come out tomorrow in the Post-Dispatch.

Ah Lincecum, I was hoping last year that he would drop down to the Blue Jays at 14 because of his size but the Giants were smart enough to take him.

It's insane that nine teams passed on him as is. A guy throws triple digit heat, massive curveball, utterly dominated the college opposition, throwing heavy innings for years with no signs of injury? There were NINE PLAYERS in the draft that looked more appealing than that?

Ah, but that's college don't you know. Who cares about a player that's faced more consistently credible opposition and has had time to develop their pitches? Give me the meatheaded high school kid that throws in the upper 90's with no second pitch for our first round pick. Now let's go catch a round of golf.

I seriously think that's what most scouts would say when recommended a college pitcher. Scouts are intractable and stupid.

FFS, when is Michael Young going to turn into Michael Young? He's been mindblowingly bad so far this season.

p.s. Thanks to the Dodgers for giving me a win on my bday. :D :D

No offense, but shutting down the Rangers isn't exactly rocket science. Their entire lineup strikes out too much.

Yeah, no hitting them through 6.1 is totally easy. I mean, my grandma did it last year. And that was her FIRST start!

Paul friggin Byrd had a no hitter through 5 2/3 against the Mariners. One outing does not make a superstar, sorry.

Look if he strung that type of run together over consecutive starts against top tier teams .. than you can slather his balls. But for now, he is just a good prospect on a horrible starting rotation. So, I can see why you fall for the hyperbole.

Yeah, cause I suggested in earnest that he was a superstar.

You're being a dick. You literally stated it wasn't hard to shut down the Rangers. um okay.

Phil Hughes didn't shut down the Rangers - he fscking perfected them for 6.1 innings. If he completed the no-no, he'd have joined about 17 people in the 100+ year history of the sport to do that. You have to be lucky, yes...but you've gotta be three times as good to pull that shit off in this age of baseball.

He did so at 20 years old, with only 2-3 starts in AAA to his name.
He did so with the kind of pitching skill and stuff that major leaguers in their prime home to have one day.
He did so effortlessly, at that.

If you want to compare what Phil Hughes is - or, at least, will likely be - to anything Paul Byrd is or ever was, you're goddamned crazy. He's not a star or anything yet, but he certainly is noteworthy right now, if only because of what was 8 outs away from being the ultimate pitching feat.

The one good thing about this injury, is that it means Torre can't abuse his arm. That thing will be destroying MLB teams once a week for years to come when he comes back, guaranteed.

That said:

CALL UP TYLER CLIPPARD
CALL UP CHASE WRIGHT

DESTROY DARRELL RASNER

I didn't ruin him in his first start. Blame the Blue Jays. But it's cute when you guys start going into panic/firing mode. Makes me want to get popcorn.
