You're already comparing the guy to Pedro and Santana. LOLtastic.

I'm not comparing him to them at all; I am simply stating the theory behind bringing in a rookie starter to get work in the bullpen. That is exactly how they used Pedro, Santana and other pitchers before in their initial development, and because of that, they're trying this with Joba. They'd probably have done the same thing with guys like Hughes and Clippard if the Yankees major-league rotation wasn't injured or filled with Igawas and Pavanos back in April.

Ideally, that's how ALL pitchers would break in. But the REALITY is that there is no plan. Especially when you are a contender and have to win today. You bring up guys and have them fill needs as they arise and hope they can do the task.

I know you Yankees fans are desperate for starting pitching .. but saying a guy who has pitched a handful of successful innings is now ready to be a starting pitcher the following year is quite a stretch. You should be thrilled to have a guy that you can rely on for the 8th inning. Who's going to fill that role if Joba becomes a starter?

Didn't you know the yankees have tons of can't miss pitching prospects that will be mowing down american league hitters for the next 10 years?

Joba Chamberlain is a starting pitcher. That's what he was in college, that's what he was in the minors, and that's what he was being groomed to be in the majors. He was brought up right now as a reliever in order to break him into the league and preserve his arm, due to the amount of innings he'd already thrown in the minors. It has nothing to do with Yankees fans wanting anything, or whatever typical "lol Yankees" stuff you guys enjoy talking about.

Is Joba ready to be a starting pitcher? That's all he ever was before 14 innings of work in August for the Yankees. I am not going to state whether he can be one or should be one, but I do know that there is history of him being one, and history of rookies brought in as relievers and groomed into starters. Therefore, I'm going to go with that, as it is in line with the things that have been said about Chamberlain since at least the beginning of this year.

So what you are saying is that no prospects can ever come up to the majors? All prospects either get a spot start or come out of the bullpen a few times to get their feet wet. What do you say should be the process?

Also, Liriano also started out of the bullpen, as did Matt Garza.

I didn't know Joba's history in the minors. I assumed he was a 2-3 inning guy in the minors. But regardless, his sample size is so ridiculously small it's hard to even project him anything more than what he is right now. It's the same kind of ridiculousness that Yankees fans did with Hughes in the game he got injured.

..and yes. A dominant setup man is more important to a team than a #4 or #5 starter. He has the potential to get 30-40 holds in a season (on a winning team) .. which goes a lot further than the 10-12 wins he would get as a #5.

How nice of our offense to go completely limp dicked when we have a chance to put these shit heads away for good.

You have a doubles-hitting robot and JD Drew protecting Ortiz. I mean, seriously now.

Also, LMFAO @ ROBBY CANO HE IS OWNING HAMBURGER CURT. :lol

Odd that the strongest outing from a pitcher in this series has been from Schilling, whose looking great outside of those two homers. Come on bats, give him some support for the great game he's throwing!

This has really been an uncharacteristically poor series for this season's Sox.

Victim #1: Eric Hinske

Joba spared Dustin Pedroia. A magnanimous man is he!

Joba didn't have his best stuff today.

Either that, or Boston watched tapes on Brad Lidge and attempted to bat against Joba like that.

Joba also tried mixing in other pitches besides fastball and slider today; I think he threw a change or something to Hinske.
