They just did what was needed. There's nothing to compare this to. In 1989 they lost in a similar way but they were 2-3 games behind.

The telling quotes by many on the Mets was that "sometimes we as a team are so talented we get bored and lose focus". Well as Gary Cohen just said, now they won't be bored they'll just be inactive.

Add the Ambiorix Burgos disaster, Joe Smith hitting the wall and Feliciano's collapse and suddenly the Chad Bradford/Scott Schoeneweis incident looks even worse. Oh and I didn't need the reminder about Henry Owens/Matt Lindstrom throwing heat for the Marlins, idiot Marlin broadcasters. No class at all yesterday.

Questions will have to be answered in the offseason. If I was the GM I'd lowball Glavine in a 1-year deal. If he doesn't take it let him walk, and if he does do the Mets re-sign Orlando Hernandez? The catching situation must be addressed as LoDuca is a FA. Pelfrey and Humber (and maybe Mulvey) must be looked at. The pen must be evaluated (Mota needs to go) and maybe we see a Juan Padilla and Duaner Sanchez come back strong in 2008.

And now I officially congratulate the 2008 NL East Champion Phillies.

EDIT: always nice to see Phillies trolls w/ class. :lol
