Even though I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, the competition certainly delivered in just 6 days.

What the Olympics can do is make you interested in sports you never thought you'd have interest in. The downside is that those sports are likely obscure in the country you're in (like archery is here in the US) so they'll be hard to find once the Olympics are over.

So how can anyone say they are not interested in Olympics? Even though I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, the competition certainly delivered in just 6 days. It also helps with Internet streaming which weren't available in previous games.

Even the basketball games (the only sport that I really care) have been competitive so far.

People just want to be different (aka loners), take for example the inane "Am I the only blah blah blah hate Olympics blah blah blah LOOK AT MEEEEE" thread here at GAF.

I absolutely respect the Olympics for what it stands for and the competitors that play their hearts out. It's just a shame when some are caught cheating because the majority compete fairly (or so I hope).

It's just an honor to watch the greatest athletes on Earth show the achievements of the human body and how awesome it can be. I literally feel like an asshole for not being in the same shape that the people competing for my country are in.

The internet streaming has helped a lot, especially being able to keep an eye on 4 sports at once. A lot of sports that rarely get tv time are available to me now, and I'm loving it. usually I only watch basketball, track & field, and maybe a little beach volleyball. This year I've been checking out archery (one of my new faves as of this year), greco-roman wrestling, and softball.

Between having it on tv, and then being able to see live matches on the computer, it just feels like a more complete experience.

Exactly. But then maybe the interest would increase because you can watch everything on the net. In the past, all you can watch on TV are the popular sports.

BTW, I'm officially rooting for the Russian basketball team based on principle. Someone like Holden who can't make it in the NBA but flourishes overseas deserves to be cheered on.

The Internet happened. Live Streaming is a blessing. All those other sports you never watched or gave a chance, now you can just click on link and sample them. It's so awesome. I hope they do this again for the Winter Olympics. I am dying to find out what sports I've been ignoring all my life. Maybe I'll find a jewel like Archery.

I also hope to have FIOS by the time that happens so I can stream 4 in 1 window. lol.

If you think America is doing bad, wtf happened to Russia?

not a lot of wrestling and boxing medals awarded so far and they also wait track and field. still, 2 golds for them is pretty... strange

about wrestling, what i'm about to say may anger some, but...

i really don't get greco roman wrestling, but it just looks so... gay... i mean wtf, there's a stance in which the guy bends on his knee and the other mounts on top...

sorry for the greco roman lovers, but just the weirdest event by far

I'm rooting for the Russian women's basketball team because of how Becky Hammon has been treated, specifically by the US women's head coach who referred to her as a traitor.

Yeah, but that's what makes it so fun to watch! I really do think the singlets hold these guys back though.

EDIT: That Russian guy owned that.

With the decline of the dollar and teams overseas looking for big name talent it may be our NBA superstars playing outside the NBA.

I salute Becky for her years of service as the best PG in New York. (Take that Starbury! haha!)

NBC giving serious consideration to airing Saturday's prime-time Olympic coverage live in all time zones due to Michael Phelps' potential 8th gold medal. This would allow full network to show race as it is happening. Otherwise, West Coast viewers would see it three hours after it takes place. Final decision may be made late Thursday night EDT.
Do the right thing, NBC.

I honestly couldn't care less if they aired that live. It should've been live in the first place or at least streamed for west coasters. Now if this means all the future episodes will be live that'd be awesome, but I highly doubt that'll happen.

The most offensive thing about the tape delay to me is that it's not even being done because the primetime events are starting at 7 PM EST. At least then that would make some sense. No, they're starting ~10 PM, which is perfect to have it simulcast LIVE across the ENTIRE country.

But whatever, suits don't know shit. People don't care about anyone outside EST. Etc.

In other news, the US just took bronze in the women team sabre competition.

Class 84kg Ara Abrahamian was disqualified in the semi-final (for bs reasons and a biased/bribed referee), he beat the shit out of the other guy in the bronze match 30 min ago. When he got the medal at the podium, he just took it, put it down on the podium and then walked away. This won't be popular.

Here's the clip of him throwing it away:

High load right now though, I haven't been able to see it yet.

Fuck you, Ukraine! You fuck this up and cough up another Chinanite to the PRC and you are getting NO AID when Putin decides to invade you next!

my god, cuban chick got robbed in the judo final. unbeliaveble, judges took her koka scored on the golden score and then waved the flag for the hometown athelete.

cuban coach almost threw up on the floor...

that's just sad, she should join the sweden wrestler

this has been a terrible day for U.S sports.

a basketball win would make me feel a lot better, since it's by far my favorite sport.

i hope to see a dunk fest and a confortable win.

c'mon guys

Hoff and Zeigler didn't even qualify for the final on the 800m.

Somebody put a curse on the U.S

At least Ukraine on a incredible finish hold of China and got the gold.

I have a feeling Hoff will be fired somewhere.

seriously I am on Wii and have no damn TV

I am counting on this thread to post stop with the spoiler talk and post it

maybe there is a live blog or something
