We've given up too many runs these last few days.

I wonder if we'll reach a negative differential after this road trip.

Edit: Might reach it after this game.

Tuesday, McGowan threw 15 pitches, of which nine were strikes. All three young Pirates hitters struck out, including a called third strike. It was a 95 mph, two-seam fastball that froze the right-handed hitter and left the few spectators in attendance in awe.
Don't get excited, don't get excited...

Hey guys, any of you able to form coherent sentences, watch twitter/RSS feeds, and use a WYSISYG editor? I'm looking for a few contributors for one of my MLB sites. Dollars are involved, though very few and very informally (and based on some minimum quality output). It'd be enough to buy one videogame a month if you're into that. Hit me up if you're interested.

On topic:
I see a-hole Royals fans are actually contemplating trading Billy Butler, "while he still has value." Can someone please shoot me in the face?

I can do two of the three (Twitter? RSS? wtfisthatidonteven).

Right. It's really just a way of me using a big unnecessary acronym as an excuse to make it sound better than "if you can type a response using neogaf's tools you can probably figure it out."

If the Tribe are still in the playoff hunt come trade deadline, they should dangle Fausto as trade bait. He has to be worth an aging power hitter.

Dudes are just sitting on the lower third of the plate and waiting. It's sad to watch.

Pittsburgh hopes James McDonald (3-3, 5.23 ERA) can stop that skid and extend an impressive streak by the team's rotation. Pirates starters have allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive games, the majors' longest such streak this season and the franchise's longest since a 12-game string May 23-June 3, 1984.

Pretty crazy considering our rotation

I'd love to do this.

What exactly do you need? Send me a PM!

Also, the Royals would sooner trade Soria than Butler - isn't he actually finally contributing now?

Ortiz is evil.

When Ortiz and Manny were in the lineup simultaneously destroying people, I preferred Manny as he was a tougher out.

The efficacy of Jeter's bat is irrelevant - he's here to get 3,000 hits. He's already won us 5 rings. Back in the day, if we're talking prime Jeter versus prime Ortiz, I'd still rather have prime Jeter...yes, Ortiz raked, but Jeter wasn't a slouch either. Plus he stole bases. Plus he put great bunts down. Plus he was good for 180 to 200 hits a season, and 100 runs. Plus he hit > .300. Plus he still would get 15HR and 80RBI. Plus he was probably as "clutch" as Ortiz, if not more so.

DEPORT DAVID ORTIZ

Wakefield is still here to get the all time Red Sox wins record, but we don't throw him out there without reason.

Fun Fact: Ortiz also has more hits than any member of the Yankees this season.

Jeter's WAR by year from 2001-2006 (roughly his prime)

4.3
5.8
4.2(injured part of the year)
5.1
4.7
6.3

Ortiz's WAR by year from 2003 to 2007
3.2 (injured part of the year)
4.3
5.2
5.5
6.3

I'd say its almost a wash.

Ortiz and Jeter are both great clutch players over their careers, both killers of the other team, just cause Ortiz is on a upswing and Jeter is not, it is Boston fans time to get their digs in.

Hey remember when all you Boston fans used to chant Nomar's better at Jeter?
I remember that one day Redsox game where it was the loudest I ever heard the "Nomar's better" chant then Jeter blasted a home run over the green monster.

Maybe should start "Ortiz is better chant" get it in there while u can!

I mean, at least ask us whether we would have rather had Ortiz over Giambi.

Wait, don't ask us that.

This would almost be an interesting comparison actually - would prime steroid Giambeast be a match for prime steroid Papi?

Or maybe prime Gary Sheffield v. Papi?

Not that I put too much stock into Keith Law's prospect rankings but here is his updated top 25:

1. Mike Trout, CF, LA Angels: He's still just 19 and hitting .294/.403/.506 in Double-A, and getting better as the season goes on, with a .333/.462/.495 line in May and more walks than strikeouts for the month. He offers plus defense in center, plus speed, plus bat and future above-average power, and could help the Angels later this year if they can find their way out of the Sea of Disappointing Outfielders.

2. Bryce Harper, RF, Washington: Hitting .326/.412/.584 as an 18-year-old (14 months younger than Trout) in low-A, although I can't imagine he'll see the end of June there. Harper barely played center earlier in the year but started there five times in the past nine games, a shift that would drastically increase his value. The trouble he had with off-speed stuff in Arizona hasn't been an issue in the Sally League and he's also showing patience he didn't have when playing just twice a week in Fall League. He won't get to the majors this year, but should make his debut in the second half of 2012.

3. Jesus Montero, C/DH, NY Yankees: A weird April, where he hit for average with no walks -- literally, zero walks -- and little power has been followed by a May where he drew a few walks but hasn't hit either. (He's in the midst of one of those meaningless hitting streaks that gets overreported -- "Montero has hit safely in 10 straight games!" -- since he's a whopping 11-for-41 in that span with 16 punchouts.) I'm holding on this one, because I think he'll hit and no one is reporting anything significantly wrong with him except overeagerness at the plate; I imagine there's some frustration that the Yankees are employing a guy hitting .174/.292/.348 in a spot Montero could fill.

4. Shelby Miller, RHP, St. Louis

5. Julio Teheran, RHP, Atlanta

6. Matt Moore, LHP, Tampa Bay

7. Martin Perez, LHP, Texas

8. Manny Banuelos, LHP, NY Yankees

9. Desmond Jennings, CF, Tampa Bay

10. Manny Machado, SS, Baltimore

11. Brett Lawrie, 3B, Toronto: Mashing in Triple-A, although part of that is due to where he plays (Vegas) and the fact the PCL has a lot of hitters' parks in its western half. But he can really hit and the raw power is starting to show up in games. There's at least a chance he stays at third base, although I doubt it, but he has the arm and athleticism to play a good right field, and in general has made positive changes that have put old makeup concerns about him (which were reflected even in the January ranking) to rest.

12. Dustin Ackley, 2B, Seattle

13. Jacob Turner, RHP, Detroit

14. Wil Myers, RF, Kansas City

15. Casey Kelly, RHP, San Diego

16. Jarrod Parker, RHP, Arizona

17. Anthony Rizzo, 1B, San Diego

18. Jarred Cosart, RHP, Philadelphia

19. Jameson Taillon, RHP, Pittsburgh

20. Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B, Cleveland

21. Jonathan Singleton, LF, Philadelphia

22. Miguel Sano, 3B/OF, Minnesota

23. Devin Mesoraco, C, Cincinnati

24. Jean Segura, SS, LA Angels

25. Carlos Martinez, RHP, St. Louis

Players who fell: Tyler Matzek, LHP, Colorado (velocity down, command gone; I'm assuming he's hurt); Mike Moustakas, 3B, Kansas City (scouts questioning his glove and even his hit tool); Mike Montgomery, LHP, Kansas City (struggling with command); Kyle Gibson, RHP, Minnesota (performing but stuff has been ordinary enough to lower the ceiling); Aaron Hicks, OF, Minnesota (tools are intact, but power still isn't showing up in games and scouts are questioning the left-handed swing).

A few more I'm watching for the next update: Oswaldo Arcia, OF, Minnesota; Jonathan Schoop, SS, Baltimore; Zack Cox, 3B, St. Louis; Matt Harvey, RHP, NY Mets; Arodys Vizcaino, RHP, Atlanta; Anthony Ranaudo, RHP, Boston; Jurickson Profar, SS, Texas.

Banuelos has some control issues he needs ironed out-- i don't understand why he's higher this time around.

8. Manny Banuelos, LHP, NY Yankees: Not a great start to the year, although the stuff is largely intact (if not quite as electric as it was in the AFL last year) and he's among the youngest players in the Eastern League. Command was never an issue in the past; this could be a small-sample fluke, it could be that his command was never as good as it seemed, or there could be something more serious wrong. But every source save one said he was still an elite prospect in their views, worthy of a top 10 spot.

Bone bruises are tricky and the doctors did say off the bat he could be out longer. Dammit Ike has no X-Factor healing ability.

I said it the minute it happened, fucking David Wright injuring Ike Davis. fantastic. Oh well at least Mets have a shot to be .500 again this week.

EDIT: Inverted ankle sprain? Shhheeeeeeit.

Relax homes. That just means he turned his ankle inward when he injured it. It's the most common way ankle sprains happen. An everted sprain only occurs rarely.

Isn't Lind going to hopefully be activated by then? I wonder who they are going to send down? I assume McCoy is a given then I guess one of Nix or Perez, maybe Thames.
