Alright Fish! Stay hot!

Still a half game behind Philly. We need to go for the sweep tomorrow. Too bad most of the time I'll be watching the Heat-Bulls game.

Will he need an MRI? It could be a dislocated joint. Hopefully he didn't tear anything. A torn ligament in the knee and he'll be done until at least this time next year.

We lost Hanley, but he'll probably only be out a week, week and a half at most.

They're much less-worse than a torn ACL / MCL / Meniscus. Those are the most difficult sports injuries to come back from. Especially for a catcher. Some people need a few years to come back to 100% from a bad ACL / MCL injury.

I'm not saying that other injuries aren't terrible. I'm just speaking from personal experience. I don't see how you could catch with a messed up ankle.

I've had 2 surgeries, will be more, on one of my ankles from a sports related accident over a decade ago. Not fun at all.

Sources: Mets OK minority share sale

The New York Mets have agreed to sell less than 49 percent of the club for approximately $200 million to David Einhorn, president of Greenlight Capital Inc., sources close to the deal tell ESPN's Karl Ravech.

The sale will not include a stake in SNY, the television network owned by the Mets, the sources said.

I was looking at the screen last night thinking, "Am I this fucked up or is Valdez really pitching?" When the Phils won the bar I was at pretty much exploded, shit was insane. And as someone mentioned, the next game is only in a few hours hahaha wow

I've owned and used it every year it has existed. It's the best app on the store, and absolutely essential if you care about baseball in the least. Buy it without regret.

Shame Einhorn had to slam Ballmer at the same time his minority stake went down... Half of GAF is focusing on the wrong thing regarding him! He apparently walked back to the mic at the end of that speech and added a "Let's go Mets!"
 
Is this the same Einhorn who was calling for Ballmer to retire because of MS's decade of stagnation? And then he goes on to invest in the Mets?

Fuck me. Last night when I left the bar in the 8th inning I decided I'd rather play Witcher 2 than watch the end of the game. This is almost as bad as when I missed Halladay's perfect game.

-How exactly do the Live Look-Ins work?
-Does the app still offer a Free Game of the Day?
-Are they any significant glitches/bugs in the app that you've come across?

1. When you're in the app, you'll see a little orange indicator on the scoreboard screen. This is your cue that one is available. When you select it, you're taken to live video of whatever Look-In MLB has deemed worthy. This is usually a tense situation, the end of a game, etc. The video plays, live, without blackout restriction, for as long as the tense situation lasts. Pretty damn awesome feature, actually! It isn't restricted to your favorite team or anything like that, either. Could be a dozen in a day of baseball, maybe more.

2. Yup, sure do. Today is White Sox vs. Jays. This is subject to blackout restrictions, unlike the Look-Ins.

3. There are a few bugs. Occasionally buttons will disappear, the "gameday" portion will stop updating correctly, etc. They're all very minor, and they're all almost always solved by a long tap / close on the "running" application. The app is more stable than it has ever been, and is consistently updated throughout the season.

Since this deal means that Fred Wilpon is the majority owner and still calls the shots, and he stands to benefit from Einhorn's cash infusion, this is bad news for Mets fans.

Really, really fucking sucks. He was already a top-tier catcher in the majors and was becoming one of the best. We won the 'ship on his back calling great games for all of our pitchers... It sounds like a lot of local fans want to move him to 1st or wherever to extend his career, which sucks because he would have been an all-star this season as a catcher, had a 13 game hit streak going, and was about 10 games away from raising his average to above .300.

I have no clue what thr giants are going to do with him in the future but please come out of this injury 100%. :(

Sounds like idiotic Twins fans who are calling for Mauer to get moved to left field!

Anyway, this is a pretty brutal injury. Being a catcher is clearly arduous on his legs, so hopefully the Giants are patient with him and don't rush him back into playing so he can get his legs back under him.
 
While Einhorn may not have much to say today, I bet within 2 years he'll own all of the Mets & SNY. The Wilpons are clearly on their way out. Even if they settle with Picard, they'll likely not going to be able to afford the Mets.

I love that Einhorn is a young guy who was a Mets fan as a kid before he moved to Milwaukee.
 
Finally saw the Posey play - damn that was brutal. I'm not sure what the standard timetable of recovery is for the injuries he sustained but I hope it's sooner than my ignorant hunch tells me. Few things worse than seeing promising young guys get injured no matter what team you root for. Damn
 
Buster Olney is an even bigger moron then I originally thought. Here is what he tweeted earlier today.

In the big-picture question of risk/reward, the play of blocking home plate, to save one run, is just not worth it. Not even close … MLB and the Players Association should step in and ban the play of a catcher blocking home. It’s just not worth it, for anyone involved.

Don't think the play should be banned but it is pretty dumb to stand in the basepath and think the pads will protect you from injury. Block at your own risk I guess.

This entire search has ALWAYS been for a minority stake. Realistic Mets fans have understood this. Also, to be honest? I don't lay a ton of the blame for their woes at Fred Wilpon's feet.

All that said, if his money troubles are half as bad as the media is making them out to be, it's only a matter of time before this team is Einhorn's, which I'm sure we'll all hate then too.

I hate local area sports fan comment sections. Reminds me of when Yzerman was going through a few years of injuries in the early 2000s where fans where saying he gave up on the team and didn't care about the organization anymore yada yada yada.

The comments recently have been "Mauer's $23 million sure could've bought a lot of bullpen pitchers!!" Yeah, and so could have the $8.5 million given to Carl Pavano and the $7 million given to Matt Capps and the $10.5 million given to Cuddyer (admittedly his option had to be exercised after 2009, but that is still an ugly option).

The problem is that the Twins now have more resources financially but they are not using them correctly. They can easily manage a team of 24 players + Mauer on a $115 million/year budget. They managed a team of 25 players on nearly half that for a decade. First of all they need to hire a medical staff that isn't a complete joke, they seem to misdiagnose or mishandle a serious injury every single year. Secondly they need to focus on up the middle talent and actual tangible baseball skills, and players who can be genuinely flexible. And third they need to stop being a team that's anti-intellectual and hire someone who understands advanced metrics and can help the team be flexible.

How the Hell did he buy a non-majority stake w/o getting any SNY stake? SNY makes SCADS of money. Every minority owner has wanted a piece of that, and this guy doesn't want any? Dude either must be filthy rich, a huge Mets fan, not interested in the day-to-day, a moron, or some of any of what I listed.
