This World Cup sucked because of Zidane's red card and the fact that the winners were decided on penalty kicks.
As someone mentioned earlier, we really need a different method of determining the winners after Extra Time. Penalty kicks remove the whole essence of football, it is no longer a team effort, it is no longer about tactics or strategies, it lies purely on luck.
What's the point of waiting four years for a tournament, thousands of hours of training and mental discipline, all these countries getting together for an amazing display of sport, and all the rest of the preparations that goes into a World Cup - only to have it all end on penalty shoot-outs?

Afterall all the joga Bonito and Fair play crap....they give the award to a player who hits another guy intentionally with a headbutt, an outright agression as it wasn't in the middle of a dispute for the ball.

Cannavaro was hands down the best player, we have to recognize the defenders too, he was a god this WC, very very very few fouls commited, and how many times he stopped the opposition?

This was the last time we would ever see the likes of Zidane, and to see a legendary player leave the pitch for the last ever time thanks to a red card is awful. The World Cup again here in Germany would be very nice. The last four weeks here were amazing. But I want the next World Cup in Africa too, because I want to see some good football from the black teams.

It is very, very painful to loose the world cup with a penalty shoot out, but we lost it in 94 and we had to put up with the pain. For once it is someone else on the recieving end.
All in all it has been a great world cup and I'm very very happy that we have after 24 years (I was 4 at the time so I can't remember shit) we have won the world cup again.
Now to get the fifth star and catch up with Brazil.

On Channel 4 News in the UK they had a journalist on from L'Equipe. He'd spoken to some of the French players & they say that Materazzi called Zidane's mother a whore. On the day of the final, Zidane's mother was taken seriously ill and that's why he lost it.

So should the WC go to Golden Goals instead of PKs? The obvious reason not too is because all the players would be too tired and being able to score a goal would probably take a while.

I always feel that the more tired the defense gets the easier it is to score a goal so eventually someone will score. And it would be more dramatic because the longer it goes the more tense it gets for everyone. PKs are just such a crappy way to decide the winner. And now we have seen it in 2 of the last 4 World Cup finals.
I feel Brazil has lost their aura of invincibility with the poor play they had this World Cup.
I would like to see England finally perform to their potential at least once in my lifetime though. Everyone talks about Spain choking, but I feel England is the one that almost always has a ton of talent but they never come through.

Obviously being pre-tournament favorites means very little. Also, it takes something special to win in Europe as a non-european team. The only time a non-european team won in Europe was when Pele and Garrincha, the two greatest football geniuses of all time, played on the same team. At the same time though, no Euro team has ever won a Cup outside Europe. If history continues to repeat itself as it has up to now in World Cups, the next two cups will go to either Argentina or Brasil.
