David Gill has said that's probably United's spending over for the summer. I don't think anyone guessed that all 3 of Ferguson's targets were midfielders.

Now I wait to see if they keep Saha or not, if they're not bringing in another striker.
well if they sell some players (like richardson) they might be able to still get another player or maybe even loan someone like they did with larsen (sp?) but if they keep saha is there really a need? rooney, smith, saha and rossi/dong can play upfront. that said, dong doesn't look very good from what little i've seen him play and i've never seen rossi play at all

Makes sense. Not a bad choice for them.

Bolivia is takin' it to the street in Zurich.
Reuters said:
Bolivians take altitude row to soccer's highest level
By Mark Ledsom

ZURICH, May 31 (Reuters) - Bolivian presidential minister Juan Ramon Quintana attempted to upstage FIFA's annual Congress in Zurich on Thursday as protests continued against a decision to ban international soccer matches played at high altitude.

Quintana and vice sports minister Milton Melgar flew overnight from Bolivia to Switzerland to express their country's indignation at the ban announced by world soccer's governing body on Sunday.

The two politicans stood outside the Congress hall as delegates left the building, holding up posters proclaiming that "Football does not discriminate" and declaring that the row was a question of "Attitude not altitude."

"We came here to communicate the interest of our president, Evo Morales, in holding a meeting with (FIFA president) Sepp Blatter for which Mr Morales would be willing to travel in person to Europe," Quintana told Reuters.

Although they were eventually allowed into the building, the Bolivians failed in their bid to tackle Blatter on the issue and instead had to settle for a meeting with South American football confederation (CONMEBOL) president Nicolas Leoz.

Quintana and Melgar were later threatened with eviction by Congress security staff after holding up their posters beneath a large FIFA banner for the benefit of photographers.

"We are very concerned by the ban because more than 50 per cent our the Bolivian population lives above the (2,500 metres above sea-level) limit set by FIFA," said Melgar, a former player who won 89 caps for Bolivia and represented the country at the 1994 World Cup finals.

FIFA's executive committee insisted on Sunday that it was banning high-altitude internationals out of concern for the health of players and to stop the perceived advantage given to teams accustomed to playing at heights.

"We accept of course that there is some natural advantage, but the same can also be said for teams who are used to playing in hot or humid conditions," Melgar told Reuters.

CONMEBOL has already agreed to discuss the FIFA ban at a meeting in Paraguay next month.

The confederation is unlikely to present a united front however, with lower-lying nations including Argentina and Brazil frequently critical of the perceived advantage gained by their Andean neighbours.

FIFA has denied bowing to coercion by South America's more powerful footballing nations, however, insisting that health risks are the main factor behind the ban.

"It can take players up to two weeks to adjust to high altitude and roughly one in five will even suffer from high altitude sickness," FIFA's chief medical officer Jiri Dvorak told Reuters.

Liverpool's like the big dumb kid in class who always takes a while to put his hand up and is very slow, when it comes to transfers. Then when they do put their hand up, they get it wrong. I hope that changes this season.

I remember it took us a whole month just to get Kuyt's signature, and in two season's in a row we left it to the last minute to sign Simao Sambrosa and Lucas Neil, both of them fell through.

Really you have to wonder what the hell is going on in the Liverpool's Hierarchy sometimes.

My reaction exactly. Who the hell is he? lol. I was really hoping for at least one recognizable name. I mean, I hear Fabianski is good, but I never heard of him before Arsenal announced they were getting him about a month ago.

I really think the Gunners need some new talent on the team. Henry is getting old and it's quite obvious he's not as dedicated to the club as he is to Wenger. That said, he is a great player but he is going to be turning 30 in August.

The Bramble part was a joke...

Ahahahahha that's awesome. Yeah Barca really come off as vultures to me right now. Leave Henry alone for f*** sake.

Here's the whole interview with David Gill:

Manchester United’s Major Summer Transfer Dealings Done: David Gill – Red Devils Boss Ferguson Tracks Strikers
Submitted by Niraj Prabhu on Thu, 2007-05-31 18:42.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill has hinted that the Premiership champions have done most of their summer transfer dealings with the triple signings of Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson.

The Red Devils have reportedly shelled out £17million for England midfielder Hargreaves while the fees for attacking midfielders Nani and Anderson have not been disclosed, however the total expenditure for the triple swoop is said to be £40million.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is however believed to be tracking strikers – Barcelona’s Samuel Eto'o, Ajax’s Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe – and wants to sign at least one of them.

"We will see what happens over the next two or three months but by and large that will be the major element of our business," Gill told MUTV.

"If a player comes up that Sir Alex is convinced will make us better, I am sure we will find the funds but that is a major bit of business we have done this week."

Hailing the capture of Hargreaves from Bayern Munich as great, he pointed out: "It is no secret that we tried to get Owen last summer.

"We tried again in January but to no avail. Thankfully, we have managed to secure him now and we are delighted with that.

"It is good business for us, good business for Bayern Munich and good business for Owen. He is a great signing."

On young signings of Anderson, 19, and Nani, 20, from Portuguese clubs FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon respectively, United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz said: "It is really worth stopping to imagine what an attack formed by Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson could do.

"They are players who blend creativity and magic into football. It really is wonderful to be able to mould and enhance their capabilities.

"I have always worked with players in this formative process and this is a significant investment in Manchester United prospects for the next 10 years."

Gunners fans expecting a big-name goal-scoring signing this summer may be disappointed: French striker Djibril Cissé, on loan at Olympique Marseille from Liverpool, may turn out to be Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger’s major transfer target.

The 25-year-old Cissé has had a difficult time at Liverpool, suffering a horrific broken leg early in his first season in 2004-05. On recovery, he found himself deployed on the right wing rather than his preferred position at centre forward, and claimed manager Rafa Benitez was forcing him out of the club. Cissé was sidelined by injury once again in France’s pre-World Cup warmup in 2006, and was then sent out on loan to Marseille.

While the rumour seems unlikely, given Wenger’s preference for younger, less expensive signings, there could be some parallels drawn with Wenger’s most successful protegé, Thierry Henry. Wenger brought in Henry from an unsuccessful spell on the wing at Juventus for £10.5 million, thought at the time to be a questionable value.

:lol :lol (Doubt it's true but still funny)

Yeah, Cisse for Gunners would be really funny!

Best bet would be Huntelaar, Barcelona won't let Eto'o go and Tottenham would rather sell their whole squad than Berbatov.

I've seen another player mentioned, some young Juventus forward...

I'm not sure that I like the the idea, on the other hand I don't think he's as bad as people think.

the thing i don't like is the price, other than that i'd be fine with him.

I really don't see the need for another striker. We have RVP, Henry, and even Adebayor proved himself this season. I was very impressed with Ade to be honest. I think we could use some work in the midfield.

I'd have to agree - he definitely isn't THAT bad, but his attitude is suspect...Rafa is desperate to get rid of him, so I don't think he'd be expensive at all. But bummer if he's your MAJOR signing.

He scored a lot of goals before he went to Liverpool, but we know what a curse they are to strikers, so you never know.

I said the same thing about Francis Jeffers after all, and he's turned out great.

Yeah Cisse gets you goals... and that's about it really he frustrates you by kicking the ball forward gets blocked and then complains about it, has no composure infront of goal whatsoever (skyed the ball from 5 metres away and the goal was empty vs Man U).

- If you combined both lists, Alonso would be joint fourth with Shaq.
- At $20.9 million, Michael Ballack edges Vince Carter ($20.1 million) as the highest paid sportsman who doesn't give a ****.

I think so, I haven't done any research though :lol

chances are good, I thought he only scored 4
I saw 4 on wikipedia, but Soccernet listed a few more. Who cares, really - it's not a lot either way. :lol Fingers crossed that Walcott takes care of that record sometime soon. (Next season, please.)

So, in £, Tiger Woods is on £56m a year.

That's £1.074m a week.

£153,424 a day.

£6392 an hour.

£106 a minute.

£1.78 a second.

Pfff, loser.

You know, maybe it is July. I can't believe I can't find a clear answer, how hard is it for an official site to just write "Transfer window opens: _____"?

So far, sites have told me it opened as soon as the season was over, June 1st and July 1st. Which one is it?!

Well, you'd think a site called footballtransfers.net would get it right, as they ONLY focus on transfers, nothing else.

But...wouldn't we have articles and announcements on websites about it?
